Friday Feast # 169 ... & ... Aloha Friday!

wanna play?

Appetizer
What was your first “real” job?
I was 18 years old, right out of High School, and I was a Mail Clerk for Bemis Co., Corporate Offices in Minneapolis.

Soup
Where would you go if you wanted to spark your creativity?
Honestly? I don't have to GO anywhere! My creativity can be sparked just visiting in my own brain! But ... if you wanna SEND me someplace... I'm thinking Greece might be REAL inspirational!!!

Salad
Complete this sentence: I am embarrassed when…
Ya know what? Life is way too short to get embarrassed about stuff! I used to get embarrassed about forgetting peoples names, or if I did something klutzy... but I've discovered that everybody forgets names and everyone's a klutz sometimes! I just don't let it bother me anymore! Now... I do stupid stuff... and people laugh! But I laugh too! So that's not really bein' embarrassed, is it?!

Main Course
What values did your parents instill in you?
OY! Boy, is that the wrong question! You know... I just honestly can't answer this. I'm not sure my parents gave me anything. Actually... yes they did. The fact that they told us nothing lead me to be open and straight with my own kids. And the fact that they wanted nothing to do with us made ME determined to be a HUGE part of my kids lives. So I guess by example, they taught me NOT to be like them. (sorry... I know that's NOT the "feel good" answer that you were lookin' for!)

Dessert
Name 3 fads from your teenage years.
Mini skirts, Floppy hats, patchy jeans -- I was a teen in the FIRST hippie era! You know ... the REAL one!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Rules: Very simple really. Just visit Kailani and answer HER question in her comments. Sign her Mr. Linky thing, and then go post a question on your blog for others to come answer in your comments! Of course, if you don't wish to do all that, you can just answer MY question in MY comments! ;)
My Question Is:
What was the first "major purchase" you made after
moving out on your own?
My Answer is:
A color television set.
This cracks me up NOW, because I do not watch television at all. But honestly... I didn't buy it for ME! I bought it the year Amanda was 3 and it was getting close to Christmas and all the holiday shows were getting ready to come on -- remember - this was back BEFORE VCR's!!! I did NOT want her to miss out on those shows! LOL! So, it was only a little 13" television - but I had to take out a loan for it! It was $325!!! I could have gotten a B+W one for a lot cheaper -- but what good was Rudolph in black and white??? LOL!
Come back this afternoon and I'll show you
WHAT was in my old purse... and
how I wittled it down to fit in my
NEW purse!!!
By Blogger maiylah, at 11/16/2007 3:16 AM
I did the hippy thing during the revival era in the 80s and 90s, LOL. Have a great weekend!
My Friday's Feast is up at Siani's Pot-Pourri.
I didn't move out until I got married (I was 19) so I guess my first major purchase was some cookware for our new home.
By Anonymous Summer, at 11/16/2007 7:53 AM
Happy Aloha Friday.
My first major purchase was a sofa.
By Anonymous Sheila @ Go Visit Hawaii, at 11/16/2007 8:17 AM
Great feast
My first big purchase was a bed. It was the first time in my life I had a new bed, or any type of new furniture, and it was all MINE! It was a great bed too.
By Blogger Marie, at 11/16/2007 10:33 AM
You are so right on with your salad!!
By Blogger Linda, at 11/16/2007 11:32 AM
Thanks for your visit today!! To answer your question ...... If I can do this with out going around Jacob's Barn and going out on a rabbit trail! or in other words digress which I do!
Branson is at bottom of our state and is in the Shepherd of the Hills Country. It has always been more or less a resort area. It is in the Ozarks. So far I am doing good!!!
Then I don't know 20 or 25 years ago It became the place where a lot of the Nashville stars bulit theaters for their live shows... Big time Stars!
So then there was a strip with one theater after another for miles!!
It also has Silver Dollar City a few miles from there that has a hugh draw from every where.
Andy Williams has a theater! If you have ever been to Pigeon Forge Tn It is sorta like that!! Some of the same shops and hundreds of motels and hotels.... It is one Missouri's biggest tousist deals!
Sandy's daughter goes there they can fill you in on it too!! Whew did I make it with out going to far away from the main topic!!
You had a good feast too!! Love and Hugs, Carolyn
Love your answers, your kids are so lucky to have such a FUN and COOL Mom like you!!
Great Feast! I couldn't really answer the being embarrased one for exactly the same reason.
After moving out, the first major purchase I made was a sleeper couch. Have you ever tried to move one of those upstairs? Those things are heavier than they look. So I could have some where for family/friends to sleep when they came to visit.
Have a great weekend.
By Anonymous Christine, at 11/16/2007 12:44 PM
It would be a couch. I kept it for years and years even after I got married!
By Anonymous kailani, at 11/16/2007 12:52 PM
Loved your feast. I am so glad that you were able to turn the negatives in your upbringing into positives! Enjoy your weekend :-)
By Blogger Gill, at 11/16/2007 12:57 PM
Great feast! Happy weekend!
By Blogger Liza, at 11/16/2007 1:34 PM
I had very little money, so I would consider this to be my first major purchase: a ceiling fan. Yup, a ceiling fan.
There are so many unspoken things we pass on to our children. I think that's why they say "More is caught than taught." Sounds like you "caught" the values and then determined to have some....good for you.
Have a great weekend.
Loved your soup today! Greece is at the top of my list of places I want to visit!
Happy Weekend!
Jennifer :-)
By Blogger Jennifer, at 11/16/2007 1:56 PM
I've never lived on my own, so I think the first major purchase my hubby and I made was a waterbed. It was gorgeous with a mirrored canopy and rose etched on the glass doors.
By Anonymous Audra, at 11/16/2007 2:00 PM
I can understand your main course.
I got very motivated by my mother to be completely different.
So my house is no museum, but a place to live and enjoy.
I'm available for my children, hug them each day, let them know I love them. I try to be as good a mum as I can. I don't demand respect, and I certainly don't hit them to get it.
A think a bad childhood can make someone stronger.
Feel welcome to visit me at:
Laane's feast
Have a great weekend!
By Blogger Laane, at 11/16/2007 6:03 PM
I've been off topic all day. No reason why I shouldn't be off topic here, too. Having warned you:
I want you to know that Aloha Friday isn't all that relaxing here in the land of Aloha. I am expected to do as much work on Friday -- sometimes more work -- then I'm expected to do Monday - Thursday.
By Anonymous quilly, at 11/16/2007 11:43 PM
Love your main dish. At least you are honest about how you feel, even if it isn't what people are expecting to hear. My husband and I both love our parents, but even though they were pretty good (in our eyes) there are things they have done that we choose to do completely different.
Have a great weekend!
Your so right with your salad..happy feast!
By Blogger **"Liza"**, at 11/17/2007 12:37 AM
I love your honest responses! But your answer about your parents makes me sad, until I look at the photo of your happy family. You obviously have led a very different life, so bravo to you!
The first major thing I remember buying, other than a car, is a waterbed. I just LOVED my waterbed and was very upset to have to part with it five years ago when I moved into my parents' house (elevated foundation and did not want to have to reinforce the floor). I have never been happy with a conventional bed and am currently shopping for an alternative. Perhaps Posturepedic?
My question is posted, as is my feast:
