Random Dozen #11

Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee

1. What was the last song you listened to?

You Never Let Go

2. Have you ever had “buyer’s remorse” over anything?
My kitchen table. My husband loved it, and I went along with it... and I have honestly hated it since day one. Oh well....

3. What is something in your life that you are thankful for now that you didn’t think you would be at the time of the event? (Something that seemed ill-timed, inconvenient or hurtful which turned out to be a good thing)

I can not think of an answer for this question. I'm guessing that I have had instances like this - but that they must have been trivial and I have forgotten them. The only thing I can think that comes close would be having Mom move in with us. It certainly is inconvenient - and it was DEFINITELY (in MY opinion) ill timed... but I still think God knew what He was doing and in ONE way it answered my prayer -- I didn't want to work outside the home -- and now I don't. Sooooo... while I'm not really thankful to "have" her... I am thankful that God worked it out that I don't have to work! Annnnnnnnd... honestly... I don't think He's done workin' this situation yet. I can't put my finger on it... but I think this is a major part of God's plan for my life. Somehow.

4. Do you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade every year? If so, do you have a favorite float or balloon?

I don't anymore - but I used to! That parade was a highlight of my childhood and I couldn't WAIT to share it with my own kids. My kids were never interested in watching a parade on television! They either wanted to BE there or forget it. When they had no interest... my interest fizzled. :( But anyway... back in the day when I LOVED it, I always waited for Underdog to show up! ;)

5. Share a quote, scripture, poem or lyric which has been an inspiration to you lately.

LOL! That song up there in number one! Those have been my words of encouragement and inspiration for at least 2 years now. I listen to THAT song almost every day of my life. And I sing it. But the verse that speaks most to me - and the chorus - are below.

And I will fear no evil
For my God is with me
And if my God is with me
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?

Chorus:
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me

6. This is meant to be a fun question, and this is a G-rated blog, but please share a “guilty pleasure,” something that you enjoy that’s probably not the most edifying, time-worthy or healthy thing you could be indulging in. Did I mention--G rating?
LATELY naps are my guilty pleasure! Honestly... I have a new bed and it is sooooooo comfortable that I just don't want to get OUT of it... and once I am out I can not WAIT to get back in it again! I told somebody that I might have to get RID of this bed because it may be IT which comes between me & God! It's TERRIBLE!!!

7. What Thanksgiving food are you looking forward to?

I have a love/hate relationship with Thanksgiving stuffing. I love to eat it till it makes me sick and so I hate it. And I don't JUST want the stuffing ... oh no... I want the stuffing with a LOT of gravy poured over top! I can forgo the whole rest of the meal... just give me stuffing and gravy! A g'jillion calories and FAT runneth over! And this is the reason I'd rather not have a traditional dinner. Can't we just have fish? Really, my stomach hurts just THINKING about Thanksgiving!

8. What is your favorite book to read to children, or what was your favorite childhood book?

I absolutely LOVE children's books! LOVE them! And I have 4 absolute favorites that I will read to any child who will sit and listen!

1.)
Can't You Sleep Little Bear?, By Martin Waddell
2.)
Where The Wild Things Are, By Maurice Sendak
3.)
Bentley & Egg, by William Joyce
4.)
Winnie The Pooh (of course), by A.A. Milne

And Winnie The Pooh was probably my favorite as a child -- but not nearly so my favorite as it was my sisters!

9. Do you collect anything? (Feel free to post a photo.)
Honestly, in the past few years I have given up most of my collections -- and put others away. I don't have any kind of collections still on display. It was all part of decluttering my life! I will be getting out my Christmas decorations soon -- and with that will come many collections -- Santa's, snowmen, angels, and Nativity sets. But no pictures available at this time!

10. Gift bags or wrapping paper?

A few gift bags for the really hard to wrap items -- but mostly wrapping paper. With bows. And name tags.

11. Share an after-school memory from when you were younger. What was your routine like on an average day?

On an average day, I just came home from school, let myself in the house -- my Mom was at work. My sister didn't usually get home until a lot later -- she would go to friends after school or whatever - but she didn't come home. So, I'd get a snack and watch Dark Shadows or something - and then I would go to my babysitting job. I babysat 3 days a week after school for the family 2 doors down. It gave the mom "me time" and I stayed with the kids, gave them dinner and put them to bed. Then I came home and did my homework - or not - watched some more tv, talked on the phone and then went to bed! This was how I spent my time for all of middle school and the first year of high school. Then the family moved away, and I had a lot more "free time". I didn't care much for free time! I missed those kids -- and when I graduated I went to live with them!

12. True story: Once, in a job interview, I was asked this question and told there would be no clarifying; I simply had to answer the question: “When you’re fishing, do you feel for the fish?” So what about you? When you're fishing, do you feel for the fish??

I don't think I like my answer to this question, (and you probably do know how tempted I was to go deeper on this - but I didn't.) but truthfully, the answer is yes. I do feel for the fish. But if I'm hungry, I'm still going to eat it. And if I'm fishing for sport I'm still going to CATCH it... but then I'll throw it back! But the fact that I FEEL for the fish, is not going to stop me from enjoying the fish either for a meal OR for sport!

I was compelled to ask my husband this question! HIS answer was -- If I'm CATCHING I feel for the fish - but If I'm just fishing I don't - cuz just fishing means I'm not catching! Monday he was CATCHING! And the fish was YUMMY! Well, the small portion of it that we ate - the rest is in the freezer!
Dennis and his Monday Fish!
THAT ladies & gentlemen is a Striped Bass... otherwise
known as Rockfish! And it is verrrrry good eating...
especially stuffed with crab imperial!

They don't all come THAT big!
He was a happy HAPPY boy!

** Luz is off school today and I'm going to get her.
She's spending the night and I'll take her to school tomorrow.
Translated this means I'll be around when I can... but...
first things first! :o)

My husband would be so jealous if I showed him Dennis' fish. I am jealous you got to eat some. There's nothing better than fresh fish.

I'm getting so behind in reading posts. You guys had a WONDERFUL week! That is such a fine fish! Hurricanes and fishing and finally getting all the legalese out of the way so Luz will always be the light of your life.
