My Autumn door...about as decorated as it's gonna get around here.
I can't see buying mums just to kill 'em.
Yesterday really was just a boring little ol' day! Mom had an eye doctor appointment waaaaay up the road. When we got there I got yelled at because Mom was supposed to be back 9 months ago -- and every 3 months. Nobody ever TOLD us this! I explained to them that when WE inherited Mom she came to us with a couple of bottles of eye drops that said use one drop a day for the rest of your life... and that was pretty much IT in the eye care department. George never told us she needed to go back in 3 months. MOM certainly can't be expected to know that she needs to go back in 3 months! Sooooo... the glaucoma in her right eye is MUCH worse than it was... but she's been without drops at all since the middle of September. (we ran out at the beach and when we tried to get a refill they told us no.) He's hoping that getting her back on the drops will lower the pressure and he wants to see her again next month! Oh yea... that's the other thing -- we didn't even know the drops were FOR glaucoma -- we thought they were because she had a cornea transplant... ugh. Soooooo that was fun... uh huh...
I didn't paint at all yesterday. The cleaning crew came in the morning, and then the Eye dr. ate up the afternoon.... so today I will be back to the grind! Vada will come and take Mom out so hopefully I can get quite a bit done!
I was noticing yesterday as I was driving around that there are not neeeeeearly as many Halloween decorations up as usual this time of year. I wonder if it's because of the economy? Or if maybe our neighborhood has "outgrown" Halloween. We really don't have many little kids anymore. We live in one of those "established" neighborhoods where we sort of all built and moved in about the same time, and we've all pretty much stayed. Of the 5 original family's on our cul-de-sac only one has left. The new family living there does actually have two small children - and I kind of feel sorry for them because they will never know this cul-de-sac to be the child infested trike strewn chalk art BUSY place that it was when my children were small. Back then you could look out the window almost any time of day and see SOMEbody playin' up on the circle -- except at nap time! We all went home for lunch and naps at the same time! Anyway... that was a sidebar! Anyway... all up and down the main street, the houses and cul-de-sacs are still full of the families belonging to the children my children grew up with. So the newcomers are sort of few and far between. Do we ALL quit putting out decorations when our own kids grow up? I thought it was just me.... I did manage to find two houses that had pretty good decorations up -- but neither one is on "my road" ... I had to drive a ways to find them!

And this one pretty much went all out.NOT as all out as the house down at the END of our road used to do... and maybe they still will... by Halloween. My kids used to LOVE to go to that house - they had a witch that FLIES! And a coffin that opened and closed. And eeeeeeerie music... they added some new feature every year and the entire yard was full of tomb stones and skeletons and pumpkin heads and of course, the couple always dressed up - he was usually Dracula - but sometimes he was a chain saw wielding monster of some sort. She was usually a witch or feminine goblin. That couple really had FUN with Halloween! But... if they don't get any visitors, then they probably have quit doing it. Not much fun if no one comes! WE haven't had a child come to our door on Halloween in at LEAST 10 years -- probably more. Even when our kids were still small, the only ones we really got were the few that lived ON our cul-de-sac! We're too far off the beaten path. Of course, ever hopeful me... I didn't give up buying candy until LAST year! And then I sat here and panicked that someone would come and I wouldn't have anything! LOL! Silly me... Well, this year church is doing a Trunk or Treat -- I'll be there for that! But it's not on Halloween night... it's on Sunday afternoon! LOL! This is one holiday that really HAS changed! I don't really mind... it never was my favorite.

LOL, loved your floats!!
Halloween is new in Spain but this year I haven't seen as many decorations at the stores as I remember from last year. In fact two large stores are simply skipping Halloween and going straight to the Xmas business!! they were already unpacking Xmas items last Monday as I went in looking for pumpkins...::sigh::
Love your fall decoration!!
And so sorry about your MIL's eye...

Have fun in church. Have you noticed quite a few fill-in-ers are church goers? There seems to be a lot of us who do!

I don't do Halloween. You see when I was about 8 my sister took me trick-or-treating and when we were nearly home someone threw a coke bottle at my sisters feet filled with gas and on fire. It caught her pants on fire and I remember pushing her down to put her out.
After that I never wanted to "celebrate" that day.
Interestingly enough, my sister still loves Halloween!

Sorry to hear about MIL glaucoma. Got her all prayed up as well as your entire family. This year I plan on spending Halloween in New York with Suzy and Oscar.

Our street was also full of kids when my son was little and now we are all grandparents or in the age of ! Two neighbors sold their houses because they were to big for only 2 people (and then too expensive) and the young couples who bought them are still without children. But Halloween decoration show up slowly slowly because it is a new fashion here !!

I remember loving halloween as a child and my kids loved it too!! In Illinois though it was usually raining or very very cold so that no one ever saw their costumes because of the coats they had to wear to stay warm.
Here in the South i sit on the swing and kids come in every attire and in EVERY age!! Some are way too old but i do love the little ones. They are so cute and shy!!
Sorry about your MIL but how were you to know...mental thinking or something like that? Now you are on the right track. It is always something..

Camera is the answer of the day. I think you have a nicely decorated front door. Come see my fill-ins and check out the sidebar for the BOX OF BOOKS giveaway.

Your door looks great! Too much stuff gets in the way.
I'll be putting mine up this weekend so maybe your neighbors will too. I do think it has to do with kids though.

That's awful about your mil, and rude about the doctor. How were you to know? Hope they can get her sorted out and they should be happy you got her in to see them.
When our kids were little it was something else on Halloween. There were a bunch of kids and they all dressed up and went door to door. I remember one Halloween it was COLD. My daughter had a princess costume and was horrified to hav to wear a coat with it. Those were fun days....sometimes it didn't seem like it, but they were.

I remember following the bouncing ball in songs on older cartoons!
We don't have too many in the neighborhood who decorate for Halloween. We have the opposite situation as you -- our neighborhood gets flooded with kids. We came home from an event our first Halloween here thinking everyone would have already come and gone, and you could hardly move the car, the streets were so think with people. Many more than the ones who live here. I don't know where they all come from. There are two apartment complexes nearby, and I wonder if that is where some of them come from. It's fun for a little while, but it does get exhausting (and expensive, even only giving 1 or 2 small candies per kid!!) after a while.

Hi Melli, I am glad the routine with your MIL's eyes are being taken care of; but what a jerk of a doc. to fuss at you!!!
I like the simple decorations at your house. The wreath is perfect and the pumpkin is great..I don't waste money on Mums which I always seen to kill..we have a good group of kids on Halloween night come to our house..all of us neighbors sit outside in our little circle and party while giving out candy.I am amazed when cars drive up , kids jump out of them , get their candy and drive off!!! No exercise ... no wonder kids are getting fatter nowadays!!
Have a fun week-end..Hugs, Baba

Halloween is but slowly getting into fashion here in Europe. Some people have a couple of pumpkins at their front doors and some witches and hairy spiders, but that just about covers it. We don't do trick or treat here yet!

I know how hard it is to take care of the medical needs of somebody who can't tell you what is wrong. I hope the Doctor understood.
Halloween stopped at our house when we moved to Neenah. Nobody comes to this neighborhood.

I pray that your mother-in Law eyes can be helped now.
Location is important for having children come. If you live on a street that is long and with houses on both sides you will get trick or treaters. I like your decorations. I just put up fall ones.

I like your entrance deco Melli. Very cute. I used to decorate when my grandkids were small and even decorated a scary trail out through our woods, when I lived in Indiana; they loved it! They are all teenagers now. Now I don't put out anything.
Your MIL stories were cute.
