A New Plan...

So today was the beginning of the COLORING of the walls... Let me ask you something. Have you ever noticed that my painting projects never EVER go quite according to plan? Nor did this one!

I had that "inkling" yesterday that maybe - just MAYBE - the color I had selected was going to be too light.

And when I opened the bucket this morning it looked
awfully WHITE!

But I took a paintbrush, and I swabbed a bit on the front door, and a bit on the white primed wall beside the front door, and DAMN if that paint didn't look the EXACT same color as the color already ON the front door! (ivory) So I hemmed and I hawed and I almost cried, and then I called Dennis (why? I dunno...) and then I decided to cap it back up and LUG that 5 pound bucket back to the store and see if they could darken it up for me. But by the time I'd decided that, the swatches had dried and low and behold I thought well, maybe they DID look sandy enough. And besides... I'm gonna need TWO 5 gallon buckets and trying to match a 2nd one up to something that had already been tampered with -- ummmmm no! I did not want a repeat of the kitchen fiasco! I re-decided to go ahead with plan "A". And so I painted.

And here is living proof that the color I chose really and
truly IS a light sandy color! It IS! You see it right?
BIG it! Take a GOOD look! It's SANDY!

So...
HOW COME...
When the room is DONE...

... it looks white?

And even when you stand all the way back in the other room it STILL looks white...
UNLESS...

... you take a picture...

In which case it looks PEACH!
(this was SUPPOSED to be my "I'll prove it! It looks white." picture!)

Needless to say, plan "A" is going to undergo some modifications.
Stay tuned. Life could get interesting around here!

I never get the paint color right either. When I first began it was always too dark. Yours does look sandy in contrast to the white.

Oh, lighting is everything! I give all walls a nice coat of a warm, inviting buttercream - except for the bedrooms, which are a mellow, soothing blue.

Hahaha ! I think it is easier to paint an oil painting than walls ! What a color adventure !

Once upon a time I painted a very dark bedroom a light, lemony, Spring color -- and when it dried it was high Summer screaming YELLOW! I blame it on th guys who mix the paint. Clairvoyance should be a requirement for obtaining that job!

Oh my!!!
This story is to be continued I guess!!
Somehow, knowing you the way I do now, it does not sound all that strange to me, that your plans never seem to go according to ... plan! Heehee!

If you paint the trim a stark white you'll be able to see the difference even more.

When you are done over there, I have a master bedroom that needs a good coat of paint...

Sandy is hard to come by..I have been one for almost 64 years now but the color is only God's color..it is at the beach..
I know how frustrating it is when you think you have the right color and then when it is done it looks nothing like you thought it would..We have to live with our choices here...so guess it is up to you now..
Nice to see the cleaner walls though..right? Sandy

I'm with lady bug, paint the trim white and the room will look sandy. Only you my friend ....God is really fond of you, we were talking about you this morning. The painting saga continues.

All those off-whitish colors are tricky -- so easy for it to end up too white or too yellowish or too something. I wish you well on figuring out what to do!!

we just had this same problem. We painted the office "swiss mocha" which was supposed to be kind of a cream color. Yeah, it's white. Sigh. At least it's neutral, which was our goal so we can get the house ready to sell.

None my business but.....hey lets think of when that has stopped me...oh yeah NEVER.

Have you thought about doing the woodwork pure white so that the difference stands out a bit more or possibly go a DARKER color of Sand you know for a contrast so it doesn't all blend together and look white?

I rented way to long to like White Walls - so I understand your disappointment to it looking white.

Hi Melli, My eyesight is bad so I can't see any sandy, but I have always loved clean white walls .... I would leave it this color and be glad that anything will match it!!!
Have a good day.. Hugs, Baba

Be happy with the color you have. Be content that sometimes it looks sandy.
Life can't get interesting around there it is interesting around there.

Oh my goodness! I am the painter in my family and when we moved into our home, it was I who painted the entire inside of the house!! I think it is a nice color - very neutral, but on the whiteish side. I see your point - You want to get away from WHITE. My question to you: is this a very large room and could it be easily painted again with a darker color? You will not be happy unless you do and do it now while the room is prepped.

I forgot to say, I like the idea of painting the trim work white. This will make the sandy color stand out. Oh, and Ella is GREAT! I will have more pics of her this weekend. She is just the perfect house guest!

I'm not for painting the trim work white but I know you'll come up with something grand!
