NY Trip -- The Rochester Event!

I really don't mind telling you ... I was sooooo NOT looking forward to this drive to Rochester! Well, actually... it was the drive to NEW YORK I wasn't looking forward to ... the trek to Rochester I actually WAS looking forward to! And rightfully so!

We left home at around 9:15 -- a.m. -- and we rolled into Rochester right around 5:15 -- p.m. -- 9 hours later! Now, Google told me it was only going to take about 7 hours and 17 minutes. But I drove 80 mph MOST of the way -- and even caught myself doin' 90 a couple of times! I think Google MIGHT have thought I was driving my JET this week .... sadly, it's umm... uh... in the shop! Yea... that's it.

Barbara had tried to save me some driving - but she didn't realize I mean to stay IN the city -- and I didn't realize she was trying to save me some driving! LOL! So we got there and called her... we were going to stay at the Hyatt - but she recommended the Clarion Riverside... because people who come to town to see the Falcons stay there! We decided that was good enough for us! We checked in ... and we LIKED the Clarion! Look at this beautiful chandelier that hangs in the entryway! (you can click to make it a little bigger if you want...) That's Krysti coming down the escalator -- she just had to run up to take a look at what's up there! (I think conference rooms...)

The rooms were nice too -- but not as nice as the lobby! ;)

And sure enough .... we DID get a view of the KODAK tower -- which is what folks are looking for when the come to watch the falcons! This was our view ...

The tall building in the distance is the Kodak Tower -- home to Barbara's famous birds!!! By the time we got checked in and situated, she was on her way to pick us up. And here she is!

Oh look! Barb's been at work all day - she looks nice! Has her make-up on and everything! Melli has been driving for 9 hours... she hasn't even brushed her hair! LOL! Ugh! (sorry Barbara!)

She was taking us to dinner at the Dinosaur Bar-b-que -- which I envisioned as like the Rain Forrest Cafe, only with dinosaurs and volcanoes!! But oh NO! No no no... Barbara was taking us to a BIKER BAR!!! Mmm hmmm.... And I always imagined her sooooo "quiet" and reserved... LOL!

It was verrrrry good! I got a big order of giant wings -- I couldn't eat them all! But then... I also got a plate of FRIED GREEN TOMATOES! Yummy! That was like the last food on the planet I expected to find in Rochester, New York! I think of them when I'm down south -- but I was pleasantly amazed!!! They made them topped with cheese and shrimp! They were soooo good! And they were pretty! I don't know WHY I didn't take a picture of them! I certainly took enough pictures of my SALTY margarita! (all of which came out blurry!) It was very dark in the restaurant and hard to get good pictures! I think the best came out with Krysti -- being a complete fool! (and I get to post it - ha ha ha ha haaaaa!)

Sadly I due to stupidity and a reallllllllly slow computer connection at the hotel, I missed my chance to post it for the SALTY Photo Hunt this weekend! I apologize if any of you stopped by looking for it! I tried! (that and a plug nickel will get ya ... a plug nickel!)

Sooooo... after dinner Barb wanted to know what WE wanted to do. But WE don't know the city and so we didn't know. So we suggested we just go out and walk a bit and see what we could find to get into... Barbara thought we MIGHT like to go see a play! And we thought we might too! But when we got to the theater the play (Our Town) had started 20 minutes ago. I think Barb and I might have gone ahead on in if it was just us... but Krysti is not familiar with Our Town and really likes to see her shows from the beginning! LOL! (kids...)

We went past this beauuuutiful glass arboretum , which just happens to be right next to Barbara's office! (lucky her!) This picture came out REALLY blurry! Me and night photography just do NOT get along! But because it started out at 8.0 megapixels, I was able to tighten it up quite a bit by the time I shrank (is that a word) it small enough to post!

I would have liked to gone inside, but a.) the city of Rochester rolls up the streets about 8:00 p.m. annnnnd b.) Barbara apparently doesn't have enough clout because even after begging and bribing, the man at the counter would NOT let her bring me in! AND c.) He obviously didn't know HOW important I am!!! (i hate it when that happens!) Sooooooo....

Barb decided maybe she should take us for a little Car Tour! She drove us down "that" side of town - the side where the KODAK building is -- to see it and to show us where the birds hang out and play! She pointed out several landmarks as we went! "THIS is the bridge where I stand and watch the birds - with the Brewery Guys." (you never suspected Barb hangs with the Brewery Guys, did you? Admit it... you didn't!) "THIS is where the pigeons land and Kavar scoops down to get little snack!" *G* "And THAT is the other tower where they fly to." (really, any high building in the city is considered theirs because they use them all! Don't let her fool ya!) ;) You know, honestly I forget what it was we were looking for -- we were looking for something -- when Barbara mentioned that "oh... and down in that direction some where is the (i'm thinking) Eastman Mansion? (was it Eastman Barb?) Anyway - she thought she was going to get away with mentioning that - but not actually showing it... HA! Of course I want to see the mansions! And the rich side of town! But.... somehow we never did actually see that mansion -- or maybe we did - we just weren't sure which one it was... but the point is we got sidetracked --- by the GAY side of town! Because we passed these darling little sculptures!

GIRL Power!

BOY Power!
(boys are dumb... throw rocks at 'em!)
Annnnd...

I wasn't sure if this one was so EVERYONE would feel welcome...
Or if it was for the transsexuals and transvestites!
? ? ?

Never let it be said that Barbara Miers doesn't know how to show a friend a good time!!! And she thought I was probably bored! *rolls eyes* Can you honestly imagine me being bored on this trip??? Oh... I DO think I should mention though... when I got back to the hotel... I went into the little gift shop -- needed to get some postcards for a special friend! Found one that just happened to have Barbara's office building in it! And up on top are 3 red lights. So you tell me - does this mean our Barb works in Red Light District???

Stay tuned... mOre NY news to follow...

The fried green tomatoes were so delicious, first time I've ever had them.

That is a great picture of the atrium! You're a great photographer!

I will neither confirm nor deny that I work in the red light district.

Wow, I've always said you've got to watch out for the shy quiet ones! Biker Bar, Gay Bar and a red light district too? Life is never boring in New York.

Of course that's absolutely you ! You could look for a graveyard to visit in a city and of course you land up either in a red zone or with gays ! But it seems to me that you had a very nice time together with Barbara !

I am so glad you gals had a wonderful time and that we get to hear about it!! My night pics are almost always blurry and it isn't that I have been drinking :)
Love the third sign after the girl/boy power ones. Maybe for the ones who haven't made up their minds yet???
That man at the counter needs an internet connection to know who is who in the world!
I think the postcard you found says it all, even if Barbara won't say a thing!

So I guess the new catch phrase is "What happens in Rochester, stAys in Rochester"!!!!!!
It seems that whenever bloggers get together strange things happen. HMMMMM, is this a new syndrome....Blogmanic Disorder.....should we have a telethon????

WOW Melli! You don't do anything half way~do ya! Sounds like a blast. One question...how did you taste the Fried Green Tomatoes with all that "stuff" on 'em???? LOL

Hubby and I may be heading up to NY in the Spring, but NOT the city. Probably to the Adirondacks.

By Blogger Angela, at 3/05/2007 12:31 PM

It sounds like you had a FABULOUS time!! I missed you, though, and am glad you're home...and am jealous of your escapades!! ;)

Thanks for the tour of Rochester Melli. I did know that Rochester was the home of Kodak (being a 35mm film projectionist for over 20 years makes one aware of this). When I think Rochester I think of Jack Benny's Valet Eddie "Rochester" Anderson. Thanks for sharing your trip. PS I don't think Shrank is a word ~ But it is your blog so you use the word :)

Sounds like a fun trip Melkli, and how wonderful to meet and greet Barbara, "In Person" Up-Close-And-Personal...I want to know more about how you got that piucture to not be out of focus??? You began talking piuxels, and you might as well have been speaking a foreign language! (lol) That is a great picture now!

By Blogger OldLady Of The Hills, at 3/05/2007 12:49 PM

Ah, at first I thought you were talking about the Falcon beer, before I remembered the falcons.... *giggles*

That Dinosaur BBQ - really is something to make me jealous!

About the look of Kristy I'll say that she has inherited her beauty from her Mom, obviously ;-)

Blurry photos? Hm.... How much wine did you drink at the dinner? *looking suspicious*

Well, I hope you've learned your lesson now - always dress up in your Emmy award dress before going ANYWHERE, so people can recognize you!

*whistles* at the news of Barb with brewery guys - way to go Barb!

I'm sure that the last comibined sign stands for the union of girls and boys in Love and marriage - the time when two becomes one :-)

Aha! Barb is busted! Red Light District! I just knew it!!!

Oh, something very important: I have more news about the cruise, but I'd prefer to contact you through email - can you somehow email me at lifecruiserteam at gmail com so I can send you the information?
It looks like the cruise is starting the 16th of Mars and there is some things to do before that, so it would be very goooood if you contacted me as soon as possible :-)

By Blogger Carmen, at 3/05/2007 1:30 PM

I know!!! I know!!! The one with the two symbols isn't for trans-sexuals! It's to prove that women are on top!! Women rule!!!

I am sooo jealous you got to meet Barbara! She's such a great lady.....your trip looked like such a good time, Ms. Melli...fabulous recount of the Corning Glassworks too.

When I get to Florida, I'm definitely looking up the girls down there like Anni, Flip Flop(Sandy) and LL...

I'm visualizing you and your daughter in a biker bar....hmmm..you GO, girl!

((HUGZ!))
