Palm Sunday Sadness....

Did anyone else besides me *cry* in church yesterday? I know I was the only one in my service... Maybe other people's tears come later in the week? I listened as Pastor Paul spoke of Christ preparing to make this journey, and His friends saying to Him "don't DO it! Don't GO!"... and Jesus saying "what? Are you crazy? THIS is what I'm HERE for! I MUST go!" And I'm thinking about what must have been going through His mind... and how HARD those steps were to take! And then of course, Pastor Paul reminds us ... WHY did he DO this? He did it because he LOVES us... He did it so that WE could be free of sin... He did it so that WE could be HAPPY! So that we could live with God and be happy. And then I sobbed. I actually had to get up and leave during the offertory to pull myself together! And I came back wondering... should I take communion? Or shouldn't I? I've not been terribly happy lately! Am I sinning by not being happy? I'm certainly SORRY I'm not happy. I've been praying my heart out for some guidance and for some answers! If anyone knows my heart it IS You Lord!!! So I took communion. What would you have done?

I came home and I was surfing through some of your blogs and reading comments and I saw several people who said "Happy Palm Sunday!" .... and I wondered about that ... Obviously I wasn't feeling very happy about it ....

Now, NEXT Sunday? .... I'll be dancing in the streets!

Hi Melli! I wouldn't worry about not feeling happy on Palm Sunday. Technically, it's a Jewish holiday. As for taking communion~if you are at peace with God (having asked to be forgiven; and that does not mean happy) then you were correct to take communion.

Many times the tears flow (especially this time of year) because our hearts are overwhelmed at what Jesus did for us and God's plan for it to happen.

Blessings to you!

Palm Sunday doesn't bother me near as much as Black Friday.

As to those tears, they are prompted by the moving of the Holy Spirit. Don't deny them. Whatever answers you are waiting for will come.

And yes, you should have taken communion. God didn't die for only the happy and saved. When you're struggling is when you need him most. Besides, at what other time were you ever more aware of the price Jesus paid for our sins?

Wonderful advice from both of your commenters!! Yes, communion was definitely right for you especially then. You were very touched by what Jesus did for you on the cross!! He died for you and that is what being a Christian is all about!! Sounds like you have a great church, Melli. I am very happy for you!! Sandy

Christ died for our sins. It was his purpose in life. If not for him, we would not be saved. And He knows that no one in this world is perfect. "Jesus, is the reasone for the season." And Easter is when he was risen from the tomb to be with our Heavenly Father. It is a time for us to rejoice and give thanks to the Lord. Praise the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

It was probably one of the only Sundays lately that I haven't cried but I looked around and I did see others cry.

I was wondering how I was managing to not cry, actually, and then I realized, yup, I'm saving it all for Good Friday, and then I'll be a blithering blitherer!

You definitely did the right thing. Any time you can receive the body of Christ is a good time!

When I taught confirmation classes, I used to always like giving the following question to the kids:

Which is the most important holiday in the Christian faith?

Then I would give them the following answers to choose from and I would count the number of kids who raised their hand for each answer (giving them time to think about it more while I did this)
- Christmas
- Shrove Tuesday
- Ash Wednesday
- Palm or Passion Sunday
- Holy Thursday
- Good Friday
- Easter

Of course many chose Christmas and others chose Good Friday and some chose Shrove Tuesday thinking it was a trick question.

Then I asked them, "Why do we remember Jesus's birthday?" (Those that picked Christmas started getting all smug thinking they indeed had the right and obvious answer)

Then I asked them, "Would we even remember his birthday if he didn't die for our sins?" So now the people who picked Good Friday are thinking they picked the right answer.

Then I asked them, "What is so miraculous about his death?"

Then I would get the answer, excitedly "Because he rose from the dead!" BINGO!

That's when the ones who picked EASTER had their choice affirmed and they realized how now all that made sense. Except some years I would get one smart one who still tried to argue with me that if he wasn't born he couldn't rise from the dead!!! LOL!

Beautiful thoughts, Melli! You're right...it's almost like you want to "will" Him to turn around so that He didn't have to endure all that was coming. Yet, He did it KNOWING the future. Amazing!!

Get your Happy Dance Shoes ready...cause SUNDAY'S COMIN!

Hugs!!

:-) Susan

Melli - I'm glad your outlook is about to brighten. I'm sorry to hear that you aren't happy.

It's nice if you can believe in this. For me it's only a tale. I love easter because it's spring, everything is light and bright, the easter bunnies are coming out, the bells are arriving from Rome (in Belgium children believe that the bells from Rome are arriving and bring chocolate !) the eggs are colorful and sometimes you find some from the year before ! It's just such a nice time of joy !

You have gotten great advice here. I don't think that there is anything wrong in tears, and not being happy isn't a sin. I believe you did the right thing by taking communion as well. Dancing sounds wonderful. Perhaps I'll dust off my dancing shoes and join you. :)

I was actually numb on Sunday. I couldn't hear one single thing and thought it would be rude to sit and read quietly or the like, so I just tried to make it through two hours of worship. The last voice I heard was my brother-in-law, a week and a half ago...he was preaching when I went completely deaf. I can hear very faint voices sometimes, but they aren't loud enough for me to be able to understand anything. Church will be one of my struggles for the next few months! Especially the music....argh!
I am not feeling too sorry for myself yet...after all, I am still on vacation...but when I get home...hoo boy, I might be a GROUCH!!
I love you, Melli...I hope this week is a great one for you!! (((HUGS)))

PalmSunday - think about it - it was not the end of the world - It was the start of Christianity. What would our religion been without what happend this particular Easter. Jesus, maybe a profet in the old Testament? maybe not...

Palmsunday:
We were 4 generation's for dinner - with the Lamb - yes, as was the tradition at that time. Here in Oslo.

Have a great Easter;)
