Idiom Wednesday - G & H ... and things.
It's Wednesday, and time to select our idioms for the week again! Well... not really... we better have already selected them - and made pictures about them - otherwise we can't play today! LOL! But anyway - Jientje wants us to entertain her and teach a thing or two also - by using photographs to depict our idioms! The rule is the idiom must start with the letters of the alphabet for the week - and this week we are on G and H!Now, if there is ONE thing I have discovered about my blogging friends, it is that y'all LOVE it when I fail! You DO! Admit it and get on with life! It's nothing to be ashamed of. Fortunately for y'all, I fail well... and I fail regularly! And I usually blog it ... for your reading pleasure! Soooo... let me just TELL you - that when you are in need of a GOOSE's cooperation in order to get that "perfect" picture for your G idiom... do NOT wait until the day before the photo is due to try to GET it! Surely you will be setting yourself UP for failure! Geese are not very cooperative animals. Well... here... let me show you. The idiom I was going for was goose is cooked. Now, if it were near Christmas time I could MAYBE go to the grocery store and find a goose and cook it. But it's NOT near Christmas time -- and that's IFFY even then! So MY perfect idea was to cook a chicken and have the Goose LOOKING at it and THINK "oh no! My goose is cooked!" I'm pretty sure that geese are stupid enough to confuse a cooked chicken for one of their own... poultry is poultry after all... sooooo.... I cooked the chicken. And perfectly willing to sacrifice the chicken for the SAKE of a photograph....
The chicken became The Bait.(the little white things in the grass are NOT clover -
they are POPCORN... to entice the geese!)
... And the geese left. And they never even FOUND the popcorn!
They never even got OUT of the water!
... stupid geese...
So, my IDIOM for this week is ...
My, Your, Our If your goose is cooked, it means you are in TROUBLE!
And after this attempt at idiomography, I think MY
goose is cooked!
Let's move on to "H", shall we?
HOT Potato! As far as idioms go Hot Potato goes two ways!
1. If something is dangerous (especially politically) or taboo it is said to be
a hot potato. The abortion issue in the United States is a HUGE hot potato!
But the term is also used in office politics or office management.
2. You can DROP something like a hot potato!
Meaning it's a little too hot to handle!
Wish I had some sour creme for THIS hot potato!

So, I haven't heard from Krysti since Friday! The last thing she said in her email was that she was in Amsterdam, she was going to see the Van Gogh museum and the Anne Frank house... and then they were going to venture into the red light district to see what that's all about! Now the way I see it one of two things has happened here. Either my daughter showed a little too much thigh and is sitting in a jail in Amsterdam somewhere ... or her Professor's laptop drank coffee! Which do YOU think it is???
Mom and I did a lot of running around yesterday and by the time I got home to put away groceries I was a little cranky. She was standing around watching me work as usual and I suggested she go up to the mailbox and see if the mail came yet. She used to do this 23 or 70 times a day - but she hasn't recently. So she kinda faltered for a minute and she said "o... okay... WHAT's the name on the mailbox?" *evil grin* I looked at her and said *sigh* Oh Mom, what is your SON's last name? She rolled her eyes at me and said... "I can't remember! He's been married sO many times!" ... ... ... are you splitting a gut? I was! Dennis did! Sheeeesh! He's a trollop! What can I say!? He's probably sitting in jail with my daughter in Amsterdam!
And just ooooone more little tidbit! I'm sure this could only happen in MY county, in my state, in my country... And Jientje -- you MISSED it! As I was driving HOME from the grocery store I passed this....
Well... I had to turn around and go BACK to get this shot -
but when I passed he was PLAYING his accordian.
(here he's just lighting his cigarette)
Now, I know it looks like this is just some little road off in a
neighborhood -- but that's because I just pulled off to the side.
This was on Route 4 - which is our one and only highway in
the county! And he was just out there playin' for the heck of it!

ROFL about your goose/geese story and I swear I can't see the difference between a grilled chicken or goose botty ! the little tails look very tasty ! I also love hot potatoes but with sour creme. I learned to eat this in the States.
Don't worry about Krystie she probably has so much fun that she forgot her good old mother ! If ever she is in jail I can bring her some oranges on your behalf it's not very far from here, (or my son can do it he lives there !)

Thanks to Gattina, at least Kirsti will not have to be hungry while she's in jail!! ROFL!! LOL!!!
Sorry, could not help it!
You did all that just to get a picture? Woman, you're even crazier than I am!! LOL!! Loved that story, great blogstuff!! And yes, of course we all LOVE it when you cook up stories like this one!! You did great. Nobody else could come up with stuff like that. ONLY you!!
So you still think I'll be bored when I come visit you? Don't think so, not in the LEAST!!
Now about that musician, did I get this wrong, is that a HIGHWAY where he's standing? It looks like some small country road to me? Not much bigger than the ones in my grandmother's village?
Thanks for playing Melli, I much enjoyed it!!

Liked this, it was neat, maybe the geese sensed that there was cooked chicken close by and they probably thought that their Goose was Cooked.
Your grass is green already, and the trees have leaves. Hopefully Spring will be here soon for us.

You know, Lady, you could have lured the ducks from the water to the chicken with a trail of popcorn -- but I don't think it would have made your post half as funny! You are priceless.
I should never have suggested Jientje visit you first. Afterward she'll be bored with me. (I hope Thom picks up the slack!)

Wouldn't it have been weird if the geese did come look at their cousin the chicken that had been cooked....they might have thanked their lucky stars that their loosey goosey wasn't cooked.
Only you would find a guy playing an accordian alongside a highway. That is hysterical. :)

So now you're no longer afraid I'm going to be bored, but Quilly is? Oh dear!!! Dont worry, neither of you!

What a lot of effort went into Your goose is cooked.
Your MIL still has humor.
The picture of the accordian playing man would work for Jeff stories.

Well I think you did a very good job with the sayings and pictures. Sorry about the geese.
I think Krysti is just having to much fun to e-mail home.
You should have asked me to play my accordion while you were here.

Wow, you go to a lot of effort for a photo and a meme! I bet you were about ready to cook the goose's goose when it (they) didn't cooperate.
I don't enjoy it when you fail -- but you do make it funny. :-)
Hope you hear from Krysti soon!
How funny to have a guy just standing on the corner playing. You see that in some major cities, but not on a smaller highway. How nice of him to play for you!
