Neenah - Day 2

Yesterday was a laaate starting day! Mom slept until 10:30 when I WOKE her to get us on with our day! By the time I got us together and out the door, and then stopped at the grocery store on the way over, we didn't get to the Linna's until 12:30!!! And we MISSED out free breakfast at the hotel! LOL! BUT... John and Betty were working on Saffron Buns to sell at Nancy's in Pigeon Falls... and I couldn't WAIT to taste one!!!

When I got there the dough was ALMOST done rising!
Boy it smells good even before it's cooking! And isn't it
a beautiful yellow?

Then Betty had to punch it down, and work
some more flour into it ...
while Dr. John told her how to do it!

When it was finally (he says ALMOST) right
they started shaping it into the rolls.

Dr. John says he just makes ONE design!
(the easy one, of course!)

Betty was working on all kinds of shapes.

I learned more about saffron and saffron BUNS than I ever knew it was possible to know! And I'm not even going to TELL you how much saffron costs -- but these little rolls would sell for about $20 a piece on the black market!!! It's crazy! NEXT time you go to the grocery store, look in the spice section and see if your store sells saffron. Then ask yourself how much do you have to put into a batch or buns? The whole jar goes into a HALF batch! But look how much is ACTUALLY in that jar! It is really nuts!

So here's one tray of them almost ready to go into the oven.

Betty spoon brushes them with egg - it's what ya
do when your pastry brush goes AWOL!

And IN to the oven they go!

And OUT of the oven they come!!!
Smelling like... like... I dunno... YUM!!!
And they were!
They REALLY were!
I can't wait to visit Nancy's shop and have another one!

Mom thought they were pretty good too!

Ok! I'm bushed and going to bed - but this gives you something to read in the morning! Come back later in the day and I'll tell ya about the rest of our day ... yesterday!

Oh my word! Once Dr. John mailed me a saffron bun and I ate it! If I'd have had any sense, I'd have sold it! (But it was very tasty!)

You are having such a wonderful time visiting Dr John and Betty, you will not want to leave. The Saffron buns look so good, I still remember last year when Dr John and Betty sent me some.

Hey you are not that far from Calgary now. Too bad it wasn't July you could come for Stampede, Yee Haw.

Take care Melli

Blessings to you and all your family.

Hi Melli!! I miss our Wednesday get togethers with the alphabet challenge and I wanted to stop by and catch up on what's happening in your life. So? You're visiting Dr. John then I take it? The little elephant is there too, right? And yes, saffron IS expensive. As all spices I think!!!! But such a pretty yellow with everything made from it. [as does Turmeric]

And your MIL's sweat shirt? Ocean City, right? I've been there a couple of times...love the area.

Welllllllll now. You always wanted the Texas cops to stop you, but you had to go way north to get your wish, huh? LOL

Okay so now I have read all of the way through your last blogs and oh my gosh!! I felt like I was at a TV show or reading a novel..I just DO NOT KNOW how you do it!! God has not given you more than you can handle..Remember the verse in II Corinthians 13:13 I think that says..God will not give us more than we can handle? WOW!! He must have known that you would be able to do this...I really want to tell you that you are a wonderful person to be able to do what you do..
