Friday's Fave Five
Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts Friday Fave Five in which we share our five favorite things from the past week. Thank you Susanne for hosting this inspirational sharing game! Stop on by her place and play along! Everybody's got SOMETHING to be happy about each week!
1. Well, I knew that 5 pounds last week was too good to be true! LOL! Nobody loses 5 lbs. in a week! THIS week the scale made it up to me by taking back 1.2 of those five. This really wasn't a favorite thing... BUT my attitude about it IS! It's no big deal. I had a bad day LAST Friday and ate my face off! But the rest of the week went very well and I even got up to 57 minutes pedaling yesterday ... so I really can't complain. I'm sure next week it will be down again.
2. Sharp scissors! Not a big thing... unless you really need to cut something ... and yours are dull! Or knicked. Or rusty. Or... all of the above! I have 4 pairs of scissors in the house. 3 are good for nothing... the 4th I keep on my desk! One time my "good" scissors disappeared. I asked around and sure enough Derek had them. I told him he's NOT allowed to use my good scissors. He said "but the other pairs don't work!" I said "That's because I let you kids USE them!" I guess I don't share scissors well.
3. Ohhhh My Mathew's birthday over the weekend! That was a favorite thing! I had to laugh! Amanda is always the big "planner" of family events. She's a control freak and likes to make sure things go HER way! So, she checked with me to see if it would be okay to have our celebration of Mathew's birthday at MY house on Sunday. We could do it earlier in the day than if we celebrated Monday night. So I said sure... that sounded good to me! Because the Tuesday before we had celebrated Dennis birthday after work and it ran later than it should and everyone had to get up early the next day for school and work. She wanted to make sure Luz got to bed by 7:30 this time! So Sunday afternoon rolls around and Amanda texts and says she's stopping by Derek's at 4:00 and then she'll be over. I asked what time Mathew was coming. She didn't know but he had told her he was getting off work early for the occasion! So I texted Mathew. "What time are you going to get here?" He texts back... "I'll be there by 6:30." I said, "I thought you were getting off early for this." He said... "That is early Mom! I don't usually get OFF until after 6 on Sundays!" ROFL! The kids didn't leave here until almost 9:00! Poor Luz... I bet she was a tired one on Monday morning... And my other men as well! We had fun though!
4. Scrabble with Krysti! Yep! She's home again!
5. I just got a new supply of books in yesterday... good for reading while I pedal! It is of the utmost importance that the mind stays HAPPILY busy while the body exercises! :)

Reading while pedalling isn't that unbeatable multi-tasking? :) The birthdays were a nice read. Oh I miss scrabble! I got a rheumatic pair of scissors here. I poured oil on its 'joints' this morning :) Have a great week!

I guard my scissors like crazy or I will never even have one pair.
I've been trying to use my treadmill and the TV boredom is killing me. I haven't found a way to read without falling over.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who guards scissors. Haha.
Ahhh, scrabble, have to wait a few weeks for my favorite scrabble player to come home from college to play that game. Love it!

It can't be down down down all the time. Hang in there. You will make it.

Hey! I'm with you on sharp scissors. They are wonderful things!
Your attitude sounds GREAT on your progress and here's to your next week being very encouraging!

We have 6 or 8 pairs of scissors around the house, but I do hide my best ones. I just get the cheap ones for general usage since they don't stay sharp long anyway.
You do have a good attitude about the scales. It is good to just rejoice in the good parts of the week and take the rest in stride. Some people get so hung up over that number, but things will even out in the end.
Glad you had a fun birthday celebration for Matthew! My husband and I seem to be the only ones concerned that events not go on too late. Yet I see the kids dragging when they haven't gotten enough sleep.
I LOVE getting new books! Our treadmill has a book rack but I haven't tried it -- it seemed to me like it would be hard on the eyes since the head is going up and down. But it would greatly alleviate the boredom! Have you read To the Golden Shore yet? I'm curious as to what you thought of it.
I saw on your comment at Susanne's that you're expecting snow. We are supposed to get some kind of snow/sleet mix tonight. I got the grocery shopping done this morning so we're all set. I wouldn't mind if it bypassed us altogether, but the kids are hoping for enough snow to play in. Jesse just wishes it would come on a school day so he could get out of class. :-)

57 min. of pedaling is quite awesome! Way to go! I am sure the pounds will come off next week with that! :) You go girl!!
The birthday celebration sounded fun, family times are always special for the mom not matter what the age of the kids!
Ha Ha about the scissors.....I so get that! :)
Have a good weekend!
P.S always love your comments each Friday on my blog. :) You are so encouraging and I can tell you can relate.

You made me laugh with you knitting and reading comments! I also read and use my elliptical machine. AND, hold your breath Melli, I walk or do the elliptical AND KNIT! It is wise to use circular needles so you can't drop one. Just so you know.
The party sounds like it was fun! Lucky you to have everyone so close.
If you like Scrabble you might like Bananagrams! It's basically an extended version of Speed Scrabble. Try it!

Oh man how true that is that it is important that the mind stays Happily busy while the body exercises!! That's probably why it's easier for me to exercise with a friend. Well so much for having that party early! I'm sure everyone had a good time. I love family parties. It has been sooo long since I played scrabble. I think it's time to dust off the ole game. I do agree with you about sharp scissors! We always had the sacred scissors growing up...the ones that were for sewing only. Have a wonderful weekend Melli...

boo, bad scales, see I told you it was a tool of the Devil. I'm sure the gravitational pull is greater this week with all the quakes in Haiti. 57 minutes....wow, you go girl! Glad you got your girl home.
We are going grocery shopping after work in case we get the promised snow.
Miss you.

Oh I couldn't agree with you more on #5. Take my mind far, far away so I don't notice the pain. LOL. Unfortunately I can't hold a book and read while doing the wii active which is the method of torture I am now engaging in.
Happy birthday to your Matthew.
I hide my good scissors too.

Oh BOY don't start me on the scissors thing. I hide mine under the laundry hamper (which seems to be invisible to everyone else, so a perfect place to hide things).
Sorry to hear about a pound slipping back, but that's still almost four pounds you've lost in two weeks and that's great! Meanwhile my scale is stuck or something...

I would like to read and pedal, but when does the upper body exercise?

Just don't run with those scissors , sharp or dull.
Keeep pedaling and reading and you will have a lighter body and heavier mind.

I hide my good scissors, too!
But our "junk drawer" scissors are in good shape, so I don't feel too guilty about it. :)
My poor 4th grader hasn't gone to bed before 9:30pm all week long. That 6:45am alarm hasn't been heard easily this week. I'll have to work harder at an earlier bedtime for him (difficult with older siblings).

Love your attitude about those pounds!
I know exactly what you mean about scissors. I have two lefties here, so they have scissors, too, so sometimes it seems they multiply at night in the drawer...
Don't you love those family get-togethers? Happy weekend!

Now how can you keep a diet if you celebrate birthday parties all the time ! That's like sitting in champaign and you are not allowed to drink !

I like the persistence you have in listing #1 -- well done, Melli. That persistence will pay off. Goes well with your #5. And you remind me that I should not be sitting comfortably in a chair while I read -- time to get on the machine!

New books, Scrabble, sharp scissors. A great list--I enjoy all those things, too!
