Thursday Thinking...
Today is Thursday and the last thing I should be doing is playing on the computer! The maids come at some point and I should be getting the house ready... Yes, one really does have to clean BEFORE the maids come because the do NOT pick up. They CLEAN - and in tubs, toilets and floors. They dust. The sweep. They scrub. But I have to clean off surfaces so these things can be done. I have to pick up shoes that have fallen where they may, and make sure that the dishes are done so they can get to the sink! Piddly stuff! But it must get done... and it always does!But I've got stuff on my mind today... and I want to ask you guys some questions. Please do answer in the comments unless you have a LOT to say about a subject and feel a post of your own coming into play. Then just lead me to it when it appears. Okay... here's the big one.
Question #1.
What do you think, feel, or know about Faith Healers? Do you believe that a person can truly and miraculously be healed? If you're a Christian, I know you believe Christ healed people. And even His apostles. Do you believe that God still gives that power to his disciples today? And I'm not speaking of God giving DOCTORS the power to medicinally heal, surgically heal, etc. I'm talking laying on of hands, or simply speaking words. We all pray for healing... but that's not what I'm talking about either. Have you ever witnessed or experienced faith healing? Or do you think it's all a hoax? Speak to me.
Ya know what? THIS question asks enough that I think I'll let it stand alone today. I'll give you my other question ... ummm... maybe on Saturday. (cuz tomorrow is Friday Faves, of course!)

I say maids should clean everything. I've never understood having to pick up or clean up prior to them coming. No wonder I don't have a maid.
Let's see 5 questions built into one question. Atta girl my darlin' making us try to think you are asking a question.
I believe it is all a hoax. I think it's all hocus pocus stuff myself. I think they make the person they are doing their so called healing on think that it's working so it gives that person something to believe and hang on to. But if it makes them feel better go for it. I just think the only way you get better is through a real medical doctor. Yes sometimes you don't but I believe that is the only way to even begin to heal.
Above all of this however, I believe totally in the human mind and the power of positive thiking When I go to the doctor no matter what he/she does or prescribes I have to believe and believe totally that I can do it and will get better. So it all lies with me. But I do have medical help to get there. I can't think that way with a faith healer. Why, because I don't believe in them. It's the power of myself and my brain.

I think healing can be done in that way -- it happened in the gospels and Acts -- but I don't think God primarily heals in that way any more. Really even throughout the Bible the overtly miraculous things seemed grouped mostly into a few major times -- the time of Moses, Elijah and Elisha, Jesus, and the apostles (I feel like I am forgetting someone). So although God is able to heal in that way, that's not always how He does it. Sometimes He does have a purpose in longer-term illnesses.
I have never seen a "faith-healing" done. I have heard of a few instances where someone had a mass or some other physical problem, asked people to pray, and when they went back for further testing and treatment, there was no sign of the mass or original problem. If that were me, I'd be wanting them to double check the tests and the names on the test results, etc., to make sure!!
I think probably a good bit of what goes on in the name of faith-healing is probably fake, but I can't say I know that for sure. There have been studies done where at least some of them had fake people set up to start things off so then others would come, and if any of them made a big deal about offerings or sending in money so as to get some heaing prayer or item back, that would set off warning signals to me.
When Jesus healed, it wasn't about making a big show or even really about the healing itself -- often right after He healed someone, He immediately dealt with their need of forgiveness. The healing was not an end in itself but a demonstration of His authority and a means of getting to the person's real need. With modern-day faith-healers, the atmosphere seems more like a circus side-show, at least in what little bit I have ever watched.

I don't have time to give an in-depth answer to this question but quickly I do want to say that sometimes God does choose to miraculously heal someone. The bible says that He is same yesterday today and forever. If He is the same, why wouldn't He heal like He did in bible times?
Yes, there are fake people out there.
But there are those who can testify to being healed - read Dodie Osteen's testimony or even find Catherine Marshall's story of healing.

First, I wish I had a maid. I'd be happy with someone just running the vacuum for me.
Second, faith is a wonderful and powerful thing. I think it has many faces but it all comes from the Source.

Pardon my not leaving a large comment. I'm doin good to leave small ones today. I will say I have never personally experienced the blessings of nor met a faith healer. Do I think they exist? Who am I to say they don't? God works in His own ways and I am no one to tell Him how to heal His people. If He feels there is a need for someone to heal with faith, then He will provide it. I do believe there are people in this world that will be frauds and try to do things in His name that are not truly His works. For those people I am sorry, sorry that they cannot experience faith without a lie, sorry that they feel the need to lie to others. I am also sorry for those they lead astray. I have seen the power of prayer and the healing hands of doctors at work, but as I said, never seen a faith healer at work. That doesn't mean they don't exist. Just my opinion. Great question!!

Hi Melli, I have never hired a maid..Fred and I are the maids around here.My daughter in Atlanta has house cleaners who will empty the dish washer and reload it,pick up toys in the play room and keep it neat.They also change her bed linens..and pick up clutter around the house.She is lucky to have them come weekly..
As for Faith healers,I have watched them on TV, but don't know if it is real or fake?? I have heard of cases where people are healed from their medical problems and think it was because of prayers and medicine from doctors through God's hands!!

When we lived in El Paso, Juanita came once each week to clean. My youngest loved to follow her around and prattle in toddler English, and she was chatter back at him in Spanish. It was so precious! I miss her (and not just because of the clean bathrooms)!
I believe that miracles can happen, including medical miracles. I even pray for them. But I am skeptical of "faith healers" because of the hullabaloo surrounding them.

Yes God still heals. Yes there are fake healers who line their own pockets.
I have witnessed healings. Each was different an unique.
The problem is they prove nothing because you have to have faith to believe that God did the healing.

Melli, I would like to direct your attention to your friend who was in a comma and the doctors said he wouldn't live. That was a faith healing.
Dr. John is alive today, and that was a faith healing.
When I was 18 I was volunteering in the church nursery for a ladies luncheon. I had a cyst on one of my my vocal cords and hadn't been able to talk for weeks. I was scheduled for surgery the next day. The women prayed for me before setting down to their meal. Later when they came to get their children was was talking just fine. The next day the doctor said he couldn't even find evidence of where the paralyzing cyst had been.
That was a faith healing.
None of them were done with loud public wailing and gashing of teeth -- or passing of coffers to further the ministry. Yes, I believe God still does faith healing, but I approach faith "healers" with a great deal of skepticism. Do you recall Christ asking the lepers, the blind man or the bleeding woman for money?
