TOO MUCH FUN!!!

Despite the fact that we were up sipping coffee - both of us by 6:30 this morning, we did not get out the door until 10:15 -- and had to stop for falcons and barns before we could even leave the county!

Just 3 or 4 miles up the road from my house is this barn. Jientje is in LOVE with this barn! She found many beautiful (and some ugly) things there to photograph -- and SHE HAD FUN!!! (you know our Jientje!)

Up the road a few more miles and I actually took her to another barn that I knew she would love ... and she did! She had FUN there too! Do you have ANY ideas how MANY barns I have in this county? I could keep dear Jientje in photgraphic HEAVEN for 6 months - just with BARNS!

But enough of that! We then headed out of the county and down the BIG road - where Jientje is in absolute AWE of Big Rigs and pick up trucks! (not to mention American school busses, postal trucks, and Cocoa Cola trucks!) LOL! She is sooooo cute! Yesterday while we were coming home and she saw a house with a front porch and she got ALL EXCITED and said - LOOK! A house with a PORCH! Just like in the movies! LOL! I was crackin' up! I'm finding it's much easier to entertain her than I thought it would be! ;)

Anyhow -- our main excursion today was to Great Falls! I have blogged Great Falls before - a couple of times I think - but never with Jiente ... and Ella. They definitely spice up ANY situation!

Jientje at Great Falls overlook.

Jientje getting a closer look at things!
(you can big this and see her fabulous laugh!)
(I wish you could hear it!)

Here Jientje TRIES to get just a weeeeee little bit of
cooperation out of Ella... that is one stubborn little
elephant, let me tell you!

I don't have time to go into any of the trouble she got into
today - but I'll make it up to you another day....

But let me tell you! Jientje wanted REAL life when she came to America - and she got a double dose of it on our trip home. As I'm driving home -- around the Beltway - 70 mph - I get a text from my Derek (mind you he's my BABY!) that reads "I thought you'd be home today and so you would know... I'm moving out." Now I've been ASKING this child to move out of my house -- he's a slob - and he messes up my kitchen after I've left for the day! He's 20 years old and it's just TIME! It's time to get out from under our wing. So, I get this text message and what did I do??? I BURST INTO TEARS! Poor Jientje! But it was okay.... I am okay! I was just sO shocked that it came so suddenly! I mean - I SAW him last night and he DID NOT MENTION IT!!! So... I was a little shocked! But, I'm fine now! He did indeed move out - Dennis helped him while Jientje and I were at the grocery store.... and then...

...we came home and Jientje cooked for us!!!

It was AMAZING! She fried flounder (in BUTTER) and made a lemon sauce from scratch! And then she made mashed potatoes with spinach on top and nutmeg mixed in and it was .... well ...

LOOK!
It was PHENOMENAL!!!

I could fit my entire kitchen on your dining room table. I wonder how Jientje is going to survive cooking in there? It makes me half crazy every day and I'm used to it!

Hooray for Derek and of course you cried -- the last little nestling finally grew up. Either that or he's afraid that one of these days you'll really succeed in poisoning him. ;)

How wonderful you both together ! You know it's so interesting for me to read, because I had totally forgotten all the differences between Europe and the States, like the big trucks and the yellow schoolbuses because I have been so many times to the States. But she sees it now as I did when I came there first !
BTW when you live in a place for years, you don't see anything extraordinary, it's only when you get visitors you see your place with other eyes and realize it is not so bad at all and there is a lot to see !
Your pictures give such a nice overview and I know that Jientje loves to cook ! So enjoy !!

PS. I also love these barns !!! they are so different from ours !

We can all see things with new eyes while Jientje is here. Her laugh looks so contagious. I bet the two of you are laughing so much (except when you are crying because of your baby - poor thing.)

And the food, I can taste it.

What an adventure to see things with new eyes! Sounds like a wonderful time for you both.

I imagine Derek's news was quite a shock to the system! Both the suddenness and the means of hearing it. It takes us Moms time to adjust to such things. Hope things work out well for him.

Looking forward to hearing more of your adventures with Jientje!

It's wonderful you are having such a grand time together!! I was 16 my first time in America and got to ride a school bus for a basketball game out of town (I was a spectator), thanks for reminding me of this fab emotion!!!

Wow, what a great and exciting day! Great Falls is gorgeous--and what a lovely time of year to visit, with the leaves falling.

Oh, that Derek! KIDS! I have a slob 19-year-old, maybe we should get them together? LOL

Jientje sounds like pure joy to have around and you sound like a terrific hostess--have a great time!

So good to hear you two are having a blast!

Now I envy her even more. She saw your life up close. How lucky.
So why is your son moving out?

Hi, I am Jientje's friend Kim(from Australia) I am really enjoying reading about Jientje's trip on your blog as well as on her blog. Thankyou.

Sounds like you two are having a very good time. :o) Old barns are really neat and barn owls are SO quiet. One nearly had me in fits when it came flying out during the day. I can't imagine being out there at night.

The food looks delicious. Save some for me, k.

It's so wonderful to see you are having a splendid time together! I love to read and see every detail on your blogs. Having your son move out the house must have been a tough moment. But it's good to have good friends around at these moments. What a delicious meal!
