Friday Fave 5
Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts Friday Fave Five in which we share our five favorite things from the past week. Thank you Susanne for hosting this inspirational sharing game!
1. My week (as many other's in Blogland) had a bit of a pall thrown over it with the death of Dr. John on Monday. But even in that, while I'm certainly sad for losing this dear, dear friend, I was also able to be happy and thank God that he is no longer suffering. THAT is a great thing. COPD is a horrible HORRIBLE thing to live with... but by the strength of God, and his love for God, Dr. John did it with grace, charm, and a sense of humor. And now he is being rewarded! Amen! Of course, I hold the family in prayer, that God will comfort them in their loss... but I know they rejoice that he is with our Lord now too.
2. This was the week that all the people finally went back to work... and to school... and to life as we are generally supposed to know it - though it IS still mighty covered in white. (I'm fearing white may be the new green!) Anyway... getting life back to some form of "normal" is a good thing!
3. So, despite normal being in the plans, wee Luz had a "planned" day off school on Monday. Neither mom nor dad could possible afford another day off from work so ... you guessed it! Nana got to babysit! We had FUUUUUUUUUN! I had bought a kit to make Valentine candy and had given it to Amanda so that THEY could do this fun thing together ... but they never got around to it... because they were too busy playing in snow and such. So Amanda sent it back to my house with Luz Sunday night, and she and I did it together on Monday. I did take some pictures and haven't posted them yet... that may happen tomorrow!
4. Oh! RED ROSES! Yes! Hubby did NOT bring me chocolates for Valetines - as he knew I would probably kill him... he's just smart like that! But he did bring me a dozen GORGEOUS red roses!
5. And I just can't help myself! I'm jumping for JOY! We didn't have our weigh-in and Bible study last week because of the snow -- but I knew I was doing good! When I got on the scale last night I was down 6 more pounds!!! Whoooooo hoooooo! Thank you Lord!
So... what is the "good stuff" in YOUR life this week? Why don't you pick your top 5 and post them - link up over at Susanne's and play along!

I'm happy for Dr. John as well. It's funny I keep looking for his posts to appear in my reader. I know better but....He's better off now and at home. :) Beautiful roses and I'm glad you are doing well on your weight loss. Congrats. Have a great Friday :)

1. I got my hair done. That felt so good.
2. A long ago friend sent me a never before seen picture of my old (and long gone) beloved dackel, Shubi, on the anniversary of her death. It was like Shubi was saying HI to me!
3. AAA rocks. They got to me quickly when my battery died!
4. Hubby brought me roses for Valentine's day too.
5. I made my cousin happy.

I enjoyed reading some of the various posts in tribute to Dr. John. I can't help rejoicing for him, but my heart goes out to his wife.
I'm glad things are getting back to some semblance of normal. I would guess some of that snow will still be around til spring. Can't wait to see the candy! And the roses are gorgeous.
And congrats on continuing to move down the scale!

I didn't know Dr John and I wish I could have known him better. It was a sad sad day in blogland. What amazes me is that with his comments I see on Thom's posts you could never guess there was anything wrong with his health. Some people, Dr John to be specific, give us an idea of what God's masterpiece is.
Ah!Nana got to babysit Luz. How cute and fun is that! Roses and 6 pounds down -- what happy, exciting news! Have a great weekend, Melli.

It's a pity that you are not an ice cream, with the coming "global warming" you would melt quicker ! But still it is a very good result and so just continue that way !
My week had nothing very funny, I am like a bear now who woke up from his hibernation and wants to get out of his cavern !

Congratulations on being down 6 more pounds!
And what beautiful roses! =)
Sounds like you had a wee bit of fun playing Nana as well.
Hope you have a great upcoming week!

I lost my dad this week—and I’m very thankful that he’s no longer suffering either. Death can be such a relief. I praise God for taking away the pain of those we love.
Glad you got to babysit sweet Luz. Precious times. The roses are absolutely beautiful.
6 pounds! Good for you!

Great list! thanks for visiting mine. Yes, the Settlers of Catan is a fun game although my husband had to buy it online as no one around here had it and it was a little pricey.
Enjoy the weekend!!

Beautiful roses, Melli! Congrats on the 6 pound loss. You are doing awesome.
I cracked up at the "white being the new green" remark. I'm thinking it will be great to see "spring green!"

"White is the new green" LOL You crack me up. But I hope you're not right. This has been a more intense winter than I remember for a while and we're probably going to get another good dump or two yet before May.
An extra day to play with your favorite little person. How fun and making chocolates? Bonus. Although you probably had great will power and didn't even taste one based on your great report! Way to go, Melli!

Roses and 6 pounds off - and a day with your granddaughter - sounds like some wonderful times.
SO sorry to hear about your friend although rejoicing along with you that he is now with the Lord and his suffering is over. I'm saying a prayer for his family right now.

Your husband is a wise man in many ways. Mine got the hint about the relationship between Valentine candy and an increase in my weight, after I pointed it out to him. He would never be so thoughtless to comment on my size.
We really can't remember what we did on Valentine's Day. Cards...and probably something for dinner. I'm sure we watched a lot of Olympics that Sunday.
Congratulations on the weight loss and I'm holding you in my heart about your friend loss.

Rejoicing with you, Melli, for a wonderful week -- even though you are missing your friend who passed away. Those roses are quite lovely; congratulations for a smart husband :-)

Melli, I've been seeing the wonderful movement on your tracker ticker and I'm so proud of you! :)
My dad has COPD and while he doesn't have it as badly (yet) as Dr. John did, it is such a frustrating way to live and slowly die. I'm grateful for the extra time we've had with my dad whom I thought we were losing several years ago, and I'm especially grateful that God gave Dr. John those extra years. He touched so many!

My husband gave me a Dove dark chocolate bar. I would have killed him if he hadn't!
Hurray on the weight loss. Those of us of a certain age have to celebrate every pound.
I hadn't heard about Dr.John. Oh dear. I'm happy for him but sad for his loved ones.

I am used to opening my reader every night about 9 pm and reading Dr. John's "morning" post. Like Thom, I haven't gotten over looking for it and my heart breaks every time I realize it will never be there again. On the other hand, my heart is healed by the knowledge that Dr. John is once again hale and whole in a brand new, perfect "body" free of the limitations of early flesh.
