Happy Anniversary To US!
There has been a LOT of talk of weddings here lately in my little blog community... what with Penny planning hers, while she waits for Mr. Right to come along... and several of us helping her! Penny doesn't want to spend much ... or anything... on her wedding... and I don't BLAME her! Weddings can be had for very little money. Mr. Insanity and I are living proof of that! We will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, so I thought I would share a few pictures from our wedding.
You can see, we got married on our back porch. We didn't have a professional photographer and had to "make do" with the pictures that friends and relatives took for us. ( i don't recommend this! LOL! ) I didn't wear a gown; we got married in blue jeans. It for sure wasn't anything fancy - but everyone in attendance told us it was the BEST wedding they'd EVER been to! If you look past my sister's big head in this picture, you can see the minister, and then, from L to R, Clyde, who was my boss (not my father), but who gave me away none the less! Debbie, who was a replacement maid of honor for my sister who couldn't make it at the last minute. Her son had fallen from his construction job and broke his back. I forgave her. Then there is ME (the bride in blue) and Mr. Insanity. Then his best man, Tuffy, who showed up in a tuxedo t-shirt, white gloves, and a leather top hat. *crosses eyes* Who CARES? It's a BLUE JEANS affair! Next to Tuffy is my (soon to be OUR) daughter, Amanda - who was playing ring bearer! If nothing else, our wedding was FUN!

Here we are after the ceremony as the brand new Mr. & Mrs. Insanity! Along with crazy daughter numero uno!

And here is one of those b'zillion kisses that we posed for that day - but somehow this is the only picture WE ever got of them! ( next time... PROFESSIONAL photographer! )
The reception was held in the back yard as well -- just a Bar-B-Q. We had tents and all set up ... it was nice! (later in the day we had huge thunderstorm and a few of the totally plastered male guests got into a mud fight... GOOD clean REDNECK fun!) I ignored them! We did keep the cake inside... I didn't want it to melt. It was really pretty. I should have scanned a picture of it too... but I didn't. I DID scan these!

I had planned for this moment all my life! And there was NO way it wasn't gonna happen! And trust me... if I had been wearing a $10,000.00 gown it still WOULD have happend!

Yes... our marriage started out INSANE, and it has remained insane. The only thing that has changed is that it is now MORE insane! (well, duh! We've added 3 more kids and 5 pets!) LOL! I'm the first to admit that THIS wedding wouldn't work for everyone... but hey... it only cost us about $200 - and that included the minister AND the champagne! And we look back on this day with some very fond memories....

When I ever get married I promised myself I'm not going to be that much of a stickler for tradition. There's no one way to do things. Whatever works for you works period.
Thanks so much for stopping by..and for the recipe!:)

Well, that was fun, and happy anniversary! Hubby and I are celebrating our 18th in a couple of weeks. We DID have a "fancy" wedding and I wore a traditional gown, and you know what? I HATE the memories of my wedding. I would do it all over again, all completely differently, if I had the chance. Not blue jeans on the back porch, I don't think -- LOL! -- but definitely way differently. And the one thing I know I'd like to do is to have the ceremony in the morning and then have an outdoor brunch afterwords. You know, a champagne brunch. :)
Oh, and we didn't have a professional photographer either, and that upsets me more than anything else. A "friend of the family" offered to take the pictures, and they are AWFUL! :(

Happy Anniversary! And I would expect nothing less than the cake picture from you!
My wedding will be lots of fun, too. I'm thinking Vegas. Not tacky Vegas, but outside in a wedding garden. I'll have to knock my dad out to get him on the plane, but oh well. :)

Wonderful memory. Sounds very much like our wedding. We didn't have any money either. I bought the material and a friend made my street-length plain dress. We got married on the land Hubby owned, with the reception in his parent's front yard. Everyone invited brought a covered dish to the reception. After the wedding, we changed into bib overalls. Ours was called "a happening!" Great fun too.

This is just awesome! Like I've told so many young people now-a-days ---don't spend your money on getting married. That's just ONE day and you now have a lifetime ahead of you. Save money for homes, children, just LIFE!!
And in my mind people who spend a fortune on getting married AREN'T any MORE married than anyone else. Even being married by a justic of the peace mind you.
Wonderful share Melli.

It wouldn't be a wedding without stuffing cake in your (or someone else's) face. :-)

Happy Anniversary,
I usually have tons of jokes, but instead I'm crying like a baby jealous as hell and hoping for the same. I'm trying to have this whole tongue in check blog but now my heart is aching reading and looking at your pics. I know, I know - I heard all the cliches and hopeful moments. Right now, I would settle for a nice weekend.
Thanks for sharing. You loo like you are had a blast.

Thanks for dropping by via Wendy. Yes all of the artwork is by me. They are all digital. My mouse is my brush. I grew up on Maui; the Hawaiian culture is a big part of my persona.

Wendy sent me here and I'm glad! I love looking at old pictures! When I see them, I always wonder, "Did we actually think we looked good in those clothes/hairstyle/glasses/etc.?
Thanks for sharing your memories!

Wendy sent me here again! I think your wedding was terrific. Weddings should be more about the love shared than who the dress was made by or who the photographer was.

Simply had to read this one, since we were in my son's wedding in Michigan, August 2006. The party was different. As for no, no further comments to that. But the setting was brilliant.
