Wheeeeeee ... *THUD* ... ( a diet moment )

PHOTO HUNT NEXT POST DOWN!!!

Sooooooo.... I fell off the wagon yesterday. Yes I did... oh YES, I did! Let me tell ya something. It's NOT going to be a good day WHEN you start it out dunking chocolate chip cookies in your coffee! Nope. It's not. But knowing that you could recover from (3 measely) chocolate chip cookies if you remain good and faithful for the rest of the day ... is not the same as actually remaining good and faithful. No. It's not. So when you then go out for lunch (for salad) with your daughter and you do indeed GET the salad bar... but then you add a chicken quesadilla with cheddar cheese AND sour creme... you might not recover after all. But when you get home from working (and working out) at Curves, and you probaby HAVE managed to do enough exercise to make up for MOST of your indiscretions, but you sit down at the computer and decide awwww what the heck, I'm HUNGRY... and so you reach for LEAN CUISINE spinach pizza, you're probably doing the right thing... as long as you don't go back and get a Ham & Cheese Hot Pocket for dessert. And then top that off with a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich ... WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS I THINKING???? Do you have ANY idea how many calories I consumed yesterday? I didn't just blow off a day's worth of weight loss... I blew off the whole week! I'm pretty darned sure that no matter how many miles I pedal today, and tomorrow and Monday... I will show a GAIN on Tuesday! And the funny part ... I was laying in bed getting ready to fall asleep and I said... "God, why did you let me DO this?" ... and He said... "Melli, why didn't you ASK me to stop you?".... oh yeah. (yea... SOMEtimes he DOES talk to ya -- just like that!)

LORD? Do you hear me? Please keep me on the straight and narrow today!

Friday Weigh-In ... Late!

I never got here to post yesterday... but I don't guess you were all storming my door to find out my weight for this week!

The home scale gave me a loss of 1.1 -- which honestly, I was THRILLED with! I didn't think I was going to lose ANY this week because I've had several "treats" and two days of just being ravishingly HUNGRY! So while I didn't eat things that were BAD ... I ate a LOT of food! So to do all that, and still end with a pound down -- I'll TAKE it!

For the Big Losers this week, their scale was down 2 pounnds -- but that was for two weeks, as I didn't weigh last Friday. I was still happy! I'm now down 11.5 pounds for the BLC!

Exercise maintains... I'm still only able to do 15-20 minutes at level 3... I just can't believe how much harder level 3 IS than level 2.... sheeeesh... there should be a middle ground between the two. *sigh*

H20...

YAY! I finally did it! I finally drank the "required" 80 ounces of water for one day! I challenged myself this morning! I said I would drink 8 oz. at the beginning of every class today -- and there are 8 classes! So that got me through 64 ounces! And since I've been home I drank 2 more glasses -- one each hour! Now I'm going to float away! LOL!

Friday Weigh - In....

Well, this morning the scale was feeling friendly. It says I'm at 255.9 - which brings it about into agreeance (is that a word?) with what the doctors scale said LAST week! LOL!

Exercise has been great this week! I'm doing really well with adding minutes at level 3 pedaling, I swam about 10 olympic sized laps on Sunday, and have increased my numbers with leg lifts -- it's really helping my belly FEEL thinner - even though it's not really "visible" yet! Soon though! Verrrrrrry soon, I think!

I'm not working today, so I'm not weighing at school. We'll catch up with the Big Losers next Friday!

Friday Weigh-In... Scales and Fish Tales...

... or The Loss That Got Away! Sheeeeeeesh! I have NO IDEA how -- but I seem to have gained 2.1 pounds this week. At least according to my scale at home. I know we ate dinner out on Easter and yes, I had some good treats at that meal -- cream of crab soup and cheesey crab dip - and the fish was all fried -- but still. It was only ONE meal! I have still pedaled FIVE days this week -- and all the other days I was completely ON my diet. I don't see how I could have gained -- I would accept "not losing" -- but I really don't see how I gained! But the scale knows what the scale knows. I'm cancelling my pizza for this week!

As for the Big Losers at school... I lost 4 pounds from the last weigh-in there. But that would be the 4 pounds I lost last week plus a few days from the prior week. So that's probably about right! I've lost 9.5 pounds total with them. BUT... I found out this week that my chances of winning this are MUCH lower than I thought - because it's not who loses the most "pounds" -- it's the one who loses the greatest "percent" of body weight. Which means I would have to lose a whooooooooole lot to match the skinny's percents! LOL! It's just not my week in the weight loss world!

I'm just disgusted! Going to go pedal now!

Friday Weigh-In...

Holy schmOley! I lost a lot of weight this week! FOUR POINT FIVE POUNDS!!! 4.5! Yep! I haven't done anything different -- so it must just be all those little bits finally catching up! I'm sO excited - mainly because that put me over the 20 lb. mark -- and now I get to go have Sbarro's Pizza!!! YAY! (i'll probably gain 3 of it back!) LOL! Actually... I've decided to hold off on my treat until AFTER my next school weigh-in --- which I have no idea when it is - probably NEXT Friday! So NEXT weekend I'm treating myself to Sbarros! Oh JOY! I cannot wait! It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood....

Big LOSERS Club...

We're having scale issues again today. (what ELSE is new?) Just listen to this....

Since Amanda said I have to move my "home" weigh-in to Fridays, to coincide with my BLC weigh-in at school, I went ahead and got on the scale at home this morning. It LIES! Boy does it lie! It SAID... if you can believe it... that I had actually GAINED 1.4 pounds - since Monday! Yea. RIGHT! ( I have done absolutely NOTHING to GAIN weight these 4 days - and have actually increased my exercise for one of the days! ) So then, this afternoon after school, I get on the scale at school and IT says I've LOST 3 pounds - since last Friday! Now how can I LOSE weight on one scale and GAIN weight on the other? Do you know how much I hate scales? I'm IGNORING what my home scale says today -- I think it's PMSing or something. I'm not getting on it again until NEXT Friday. At that time I will add whatever it says to my chart. Fickle scales... I'll tell ya.... sheeeeeesh! At any rate...

For the Big LOSERS Club I have now lost 3 pounds!

The Race Is On....

I just found out today that we have a "Big Losers Club" at the school that I work at! They happend to be meeting after school today and so I stopped in and joined! The way it's working is everybody puts in a dollar a week for 13 weeks and at the end, who ever has lost the most weight gets the money! I'M gonna WIN! Yep! So CHEER me on!!! Most of the people there couldn't lose as much as me if their life depended on it... but there ARE a few who could give me some stiff competition! I'm going to have to WORK for it!

Leaner Times....

Today I was reminiscing about leaner times....

Like 1987... Shortly after Mathew was born...

... and 1973, when I was Sweet 16!...
Can you BELIEVE I thought I was fat back then?
Ugh! It makes me sick today to remember how
little self esteem I had back then! I should
have been at the absolute TOP of my game! Instead
I was just another crazy teenager looking at models
in magazines.... *sigh*

Little Changes....

So the dieting really isn't going so bad. As I've gotten older I really don't eat all the stuff I used to eat. I hardly EVER crave chocolate or candy anymore -- it's really been MONTHS since I've thought I had a need for a candy bar! I'm not a chip eater at all.... and usually when I eat a french fry it's just because it "came with" whatever I really DID want to eat. So I've quit eating them -- they really are NOT something that I "want" - and to me they are a complete and total waste of calories. (and fat... and carbs...) After the major Battle Of The Butter, Amanda and I agreed to disagree. I have NOT given up butter --- but I have cut back sooooooooo drastically that I might as well have given it up. I used to eat butter every single solitary day of my life on something or another. Usually a bagel. Well... sometimes I still do eat some on a bagel -- but I use SO much less -- just enough to add some flavor -- it doesn't have to SWIM in butter! And I don't put any on most of my vegetables anymore. Occassionally a tiny bit on asparagus! :) I have not given up milk - and won't -- I drink at least 2 glasses of milk a day. But I have cut back to 1% from 2% -- and no, I won't go to skim. Sorry... can't do it! I'm also not eating nearly as much bread (i.e. bagels) as I used to. I really did used to eat a bagel every morning for breakfast -- and sometimes another one for a snack in the afternoon! I've cut myself back to 2-3 bagels a week. That means one with butter, one with cream cheese... and one with (cover Amanda's ears) Peanutbutter! (oh God... peanutbutter really IS a problem... but again - I now only use enough to barely coat the surface!) I actually measure and make sure I only use 1 TBS or less per bagel half! Peanutbutter COULD have the potential to blow an entire weeks worth of dieting right out the window if I were not this careful! Other than that... I'm eating more cereal for breakfast... including oatmeal again! And occassionally I make eggs - poached!

The major change I've made is lunch -- I now eat a can of soup almost every day. It's great ... it's a hot meal, it's comforting, and it fills me up. And some days I eat a can of tuna mixed with the tiniest amount of lite-mayonaise you ever saw in your life! And pickles. Sometimes I eat in on a sandwich - but usually I prefer to spread it on crackers --- FEELS like I get more that way!

I'm not a big snacker, but I have made sure to eat an apple somewhere along the way every day. I bought a box of "diet" candy bars for the "in case" times. It's sitting on the shelf waiting for "in case" to happen.

I really haven't changed dinner all that much. I still have to "cook" for Dennis -- so I eat whatever and just make sure my portions of meat and potatoes are small, and my servings of veggies are LARGE! A lot of times I just skip the meat altogether. I'm not a big fan of chicken ... and while I like a good steak, or a hamburger, I'm not super fond of meatloaf or other mixed meat dishes. The main thing I've done is to cut way back on cooking with oil... even my beloved olive oil.... and of course - very little butter. It's forced me to try some new recipes and Dennis is actually liking that! I have been cooking a LOT more fish -- which, he's not crazy about - but seafood is MY favorite food -- and it works GREAT for weight loss, so he's going to have to deal with this... and it won't kill HIM to lose a few pounds either! LOL!

So now... with all this said... let's see what the scale says on Monday! *crossing my fingers for at least a 2 pound loss!*

Size 10's

I really really DON'T watch television... and here's ONE more reason why. I sat down on the couch next to my darling hubby (who was watching tv - but he always is...) and in the 30 minutes that I sat and talked with him, Jenny Craig played a certain commercial TWICE. I know ... lotsa folks do that. That's okay. But THIS commercial irked me... no RILED me... enough to get me up on this here soap box! The first words spoken in this commercial were... " In just two months I went from a size 10 to a 4! " Now, I am an XXXtra large woman -- and I KNOW I'm XXXtra large.... nobody has to tippy toe around me and tell me that I'm not all that big - dammit YES - I AM that big! But ya know what? Size 10 is NOT big! Size 10 is little! As a matter of fact, when I was 12 I had dreams of being a size 10! Because by 12 I was already a 16. And so are MANY of America's teenagers today. And they're healthy -- as was I! Buxom is what I was called -- and I was. I was 5'3'' tall and I weighed in at 150 lbs. I THOUGHT I was grossly overweight -- but that was long BEFORE I was grossly overweight! That Jenny Craig would put out an advertisement on National Television AIMED at size 10's and telling them that they are FAT is absolutely inexcusable to me! I cannot believe it! This is nothing short of CREATING a generation of anorexic little girls! This disgusts me! Jenny Craig -- wherever your sick little peon of a mind is -- I will BOYCOTT you and I will encourage everyone I KNOW to boycott you! Jenny Craig should be ashamed! *steps down from soap box now*

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

How the HELL did I allow this to happen?

Sooooo.... as you can see the story is NOT a good one! I guess the "official" reading is 274 ... POUNDS? Awwww crap! Well, she's not home yet, but what the heck! I might as well get started and see if I can lose a pound or two before she gets here...

However... I don't think this cheap little scale is going to go the distance for this GIANT sized job.... look... I'm so fat my feet hang over the edges. :( I'm thinking I'm going to need a new and improved super size model! Like THIS one...
.... and so I ordered it today! If I can't super size my fries I might as well super size my scale!

And yet another blog...

Welcome... to my 3rd and final blog... This one is for keeps!

So Amanda will be moving home in ... mmm... 11 days. When she gets here, she and I are going to take the drastic approach to my weight problem. We're going to go visit Mathew EVERY day! Yea... I just came from visiting him in his brand spankin' new apartment.... on the 3rd floor! Huff huff HUFF...

So that's not the real approach. Nope. The REAL deal is going to be right here. With pictures and progress! Amanda and I are going to join the GYM together. She's a fitness trainer and has been dying to get her hands on me for years! Nothing like training your mom to get even for all those years of ... ... ... WHAT? Not letting her eat Froot Loops! That's what! Well... this was my goal too -- but I only had in mind to do the exercise... now she's starting to talk the "D" word... UGH! I'm not sure I'm up for a diet. I wonder if she remembers that I'm having a mid-life crisis... ?
