I'm a Ferrari! ... and a Reading Meme... and Stuff!
I DO know it's Thursday and time for 13 X's ...
... but I am just not UP for it this week!
I'm still recuperating from VBS! LOL!
Next week... I promise... in the meantime... I'm a car!
I'm a Ferrari 360 Modena!

You've got it all! Power, passion, precision, and style. You're sensuous, exotic, and temperamental. Sure, you're expensive and high-maintenance, but you're worth it.

I FOUND this Reading Meme over at Susan's Learning For Lifetime. She did not tag me... I tagged my own self!
1. Do you remember how you developed a love of reading?
??? ??? ... ??? Um... no. I only remember that from the time I learned to read I was in trouble every night of my life for reading "under the covers" after I was supposed to be asleep! I still get in trouble for it - but not until I have to get up in the morning ... and can't.
2. What are some books you loved as a child?
Well, of course, as a wee child there was Winnie The Pooh, Grimm's Fairy Tales, and Beatrix Potter. And the story of Little Black Sambo! And then once I could read on my own, the one's that I used to get in trouble for were The Bobbsey Twins and the Honeybunch series. Honeybunch more than Bobbseys actually! Those are the only "series" books I remember reading as a kid. The Secret Garden. After those I don't really remember "loving" any particular ones. And I know as a teenager I didn't really read "books" -- I devoured teen magazines! And I read a lot of biographies back then too... Howard Hughes was one of my favorites! He was sooooooooo weird!
3. Do you have a favorite genre?
These days I LOVE true crime stories, and crime dramas. I also love my spiritual books and Bible studies. And I do still enjoy biographies too. Sometimes I'll pick up a biography about someone I've never heard of ... and get pleasantly surprised! I read Marvella one time... a long time ago! Marvella Bayh -- wife of (then) Senator Birch Bayh. I had never heard of either one of them at the time -- but her story of fighting cancer AND being a senators wife has stayed with me all these years. She eventually lost the battle... but she was a lovely woman.
4. Do you have a favorite novel?
*whew* That is a HARD one! I don't think I do! There are several that have stuck in my mind through the years... The Thorn Birds (Colleen McCullough) probably comes close - the movie was good too - but the book was SO much better! Kane & Abel (Jeffrey Archer) sticks with me. A Woman of Substance (Barbara Taylor Bradford) also sticks. Those are all modern authors - even if the books are a bit dated! Classics I've really enjoyed are Little Women, Great Expectations, The Scarlett Letter, The Great Gatsby (is that a classic?) ...
5. Where do you usually read?
My favorite place is in bed! And if I get into a "can't put it down" novel, I just MIGHT stay in bed all day!!! I also like to read while pedaling - but it must be LITE reading! (pun intended!)
6. When do you usually read?
Mostly at night ... but not exclusively!
7. Do you usually have more than one book you are reading at a time?
I don't remember WHEN I didn't have 2 or 3 books going at one time!
8. Do you read nonfiction in a different way or place than you read fiction?
Nope. Well... if I'm reading to "study" - then yes. I read at my computer desk so that I can look things up quickly, cross reference, etc... but if I'm reading nonfiction for pleasure, then no.
9. Do you buy most of the books you read, or borrow them, or check them out of the library?
I DO check some out of the library ... and then I don't take them back for forever and ever and ... well... let's just say I single handedly KEEP our public library in business! But I buy most of my books and then pass them on when I'm done. I donate a lot to the library! I donate the Christian ones to the church library. And some I just pass on to friends or family!
10. Do you keep most of the books you buy?
Oh. I think you should see the above answer for this! LOL!
11. If you have children, what are some of the favorite books you have shared with them?
ACK! I just did a whole post on this a week or two ago! Here it is!
12. What are you reading now?
Praying God's Word, by Beth Moore
Blessing In Disguise, by Eileen Goudge (novel)
A Godward Life, by John Piper
13. Do you keep a To Be Read list?
I keep a list, I keep a PILE, and I keep an ongoing order with Amazon! My cart is NEVER empty!
14. What’s next?
Hinds' Feet On High Places, Hannah Hurnard
On What Grounds, Cleo Coyle
15. What books would you like to reread?
The only books I've EVER re-read (besides the Bible) are children's books. I really don't like to read books twice... although I probably SHOULD! I'm sure I'd get more out of it the 2nd time around! But I just can't hold interest in something that I already know how it ends. (did that sentence make ANY sense? Is it EVEN a sentence?) LOL!
16. Who are your favorite authors?
Ohhhhh it's a long list! Right NOW I would say James Patterson, David Baldacci, Max Lucado, John Ortberg, Charles Stanley ... not necessarily in that order! But continuing favorites are Jan Karon, Maeve Binchy, Janet Evanovich, Ann Rule, Chris Bohjalian, Lillian Jackson Braun, Nelson DeMille, Lawrence Sanders
I'm not tagging anyone, but... you know... if ya WANNA play, let me know! I'll be around to hear what you've got to say!

Yesterday Luz and I spent the morning painting T-shirts for her little family for her Mommy's birthday which is Saturday (and so is Dennis & my anniversary!). We made 3 t-shirts -- a Great BIG Daddy size, a medium Mommy size, and weeeeee little Luzi size! They are all similar in that Luz painted a picture (or design) on each one (though the designs are not similar!) and in that they say something similar on them. (I can't say what right now...) So as we were getting ready to take her HOME she wanted to take her t-shirt HOME too. I said NO - I explained that it was still wet - AND that it is going in the box for Mommy's birthday. Luz got very pouty and said she didn't WANT it for Mommy's birthday. She wanted it NOW. I said NO - and I reminded her that it is part of the SURPRISE for Mommy's birthday. She reluctantly left the t-shirt at my house. I am taking it to her house tomorrow so we can wrap them all together and she can hide it until Saturday. So we get to her house and her mommy is home and we sit on the couch and we're talking about her day, and her mommy has TRAINED her to tell every minute of her day from the minute her feet hit the floor until they are reunited because her mommy can not STAND to be left out of ANYthing... and so we get to the "and THEN what did you do?" and Luz says "And THEN we PAINTED T-SHIRTS!!!" Grrrrrr.... And I said "You BIG mouth!"... and her mommy laughed! *sigh* She used to be the BEST secret keeper in the WORLD... until her mommy TRAINED her!
By the way...
1.) Housework is just such a thing of the past!

Quirky Meme
I was actually tagged for this meme by
Barbara H. (there! I followed rule 1!)
1) Link to the person who tagged me.
2) Mention the rules. (now I've done rule 2 also!)
3) Tell six quirky yet
boring,
unspectacular details about myself.
4) Tag 6 other bloggers by linking to them.
5) Go to each person’s blog and leave a comment that lets them know they’ve been tagged.
Now... the problem about trying to figure out one's own quirks is that if it's YOUR quirk, you don't find it quirky! Sooooo... I think the best I can do is to come up with some things about me that are really REALLY boring! (
boring was
IN the rules -- did you read them?)
1. I always always always poor my creamer in my cup first -- then my coffee.
2. I only drink coffee out of my blue mug. I have 4 identical blue mugs so that one is always clean. Don't mess with my blue mug!
3. I don't give my plate to the dog to lick. I give it to Dennis to give to the dog. (that way she never begs ME for anything! She drives HIM crazy!)
4. Even though I blog almost every day of the year, I do not check my email everyday.
(Amanda actually sends me a txt msg to tell me she emailed me! LOL!)
5. I love children and I love church, but I do NOT love minding the nursery at church.
(I intend to give that one up at the end of the year... however I know I'll get talked out of it!)
6. I have
ONE pair of sneakers,
3 pairs of dress shoes, and about
35 pairs of flip flops! *true!*
(rule 3 - check!)
Now I'm supposed to tag 6 other people and that's the part where I always break the rules! Some of you LIKE to do meme's ... if you'd LIKE to do this one, feel free! I'll warn ya now though - it's a TUFFY! Well... unless you're really quirky, I guess! (Now, having broken rule 4, that automatically gets me out of rule 5! Whooo hoo!)

I did not get hardly ANY housework done yesterday! I don't know where the day went... but it didn't go to housework! I think it might have gone to some phone calls and it might have gone out to lunch... and a wee portion of it went to a nap after Dennis arrived home... and then the evening went to Bible Study... but I don't have a CLUE where the rest of it went!!! I do know where today is going. It's going
1.) down to get the estimate on Krysti's car so we can decide whether we should pay to fix it ourselves, or let insurance cancel her. JOY!
2.) Stopping by the insurance company to drop off the first payment for MY new car insurance.
3.) Off to babysit Luz this afternoon! YAY!

Not much really going on today. I got all the VBS stuff packed up and put away yesterday. Dennis was sO relieved to have the kitchen table back! Now he can spread out his newspaper again! Lol! We had a minor catastrophe yesterday too... Dennis had my truck pulled up in the driveway, and Krysti went out to move her car so she could vacuum it out... and she backed it into my truck! I don't know WHAT she was thinking. She had been standing out there talking to Dennis - she KNEW the truck was there... I have to call the insurance company today -- she really did a number on her rear end! The Expedition is FINE! (and even if it weren't we wouldn't fix it...) But her poor little car... OUCH! She cried. I've come to the conclusion that when you have 8 vehicles in a family... okay I guess I shouldn't count Amanda's or Mathew's anymore - 6 vehicles... that sOMething is always going to be happening! Does this sound about right to y'all? Thankfully her car still has full coverage!
Okay... I've ignored neglected my house long enough now. TODAY I must start catching up on housework. It's a dreaded task, but really... it HAS to be done from time to time.

Car Shopping... The Saga Continues...
Okay... so my passenger side seatbelt broke in my Expedition ... a few days before VBS. I did NOT have time to deal with this. Now, I don't MIND puttin' Mom in the back seat to travel -- unless I have Luz with me! One time Mom accidentally unhooked the seatbelt that holds Luz's carseat in and I took a sharp left and Luz went flying - carseat and all! Fortunately she was not hurt - and she actually found the whole incident hysterically FUNNY -- but I didn't! Sooooo... I had told Dennis that as soon as VBS was over, I would go "shop" again -- because he was obviously NOT going to shop for my car. Grrrrr....
Today Mom & I went to lunch, then the grocery store, and after putting the groceries away, we headed out to look for a car! I had walked out the door telling Dennis (who was cutting grass) to stick around because I was BUYING a car TODAY, and I wasn't going OUT of the county to do it! I would find SOMEthing I could live with IN THIS COUNTY one way or another! Sooooo I headed down to the Toyota dealer - they know me real well down there. For some reason they always have a car that catches my eye - but never pans out. These poor guys are so frustrated with me - because all they ever hear is "I'm in no hurry... I'll wait for THE car." Until today. So today I walked in, I grabbed my sales guy AND his manager and I said, okay - here's the deal guys... I'm buyin' a car IN the county today. There's 3 lots and somebody's gonna get lucky! Whoever offers me the most of what I want for the least amount of money is selling me a car! Now... these guys KNOW what I want! Trust me. And they know they really don't HAVE it on their lot today -- but they try to get me into a Saturn Aura. Now, I LOVE the Saturn Aura! In all honesty I have been COVETING the maroon 2008 Saturn Aura fully loaded! But I hadn't driven it - mainly because it was quite a bit more money than I really wanted to spend ... and I really didn't want to buy brand new! ( I was actually thinking about waiting for the 2009's to come out - and THEN get the 2008!) But the Toyota place had an Aura - a white 2007 with cloth interior. But a very nice car none the less. I agreed to drive it! I am SO glad I drove that car! I HATED it! Actually, it handled really nice -- but I felt like I was in a bottle or something... I dunno... the windows ... the vision... something didn't fit me right AT ALL! It did drive nice though! But when I stepped out of it, my love affair with the Aura was done! Finis! Sooooo the Toyota mgr. told me he had an o7 Buick Lacrosse CXS (white) fully loaded on his Waldorf lot... but that he couldn't get it today. I told him the Buick dealer across the street had a charcoal Lacrosse for a good price! (where do you think I went on my test drive? LOL!) The salesman volunteered to drive over to Waldorf and pick up the car! I agreed to meet them back at the shop at 5:30. On my way off their lot, I said a little prayer...
Lord, if this is NOT the car you want me to have, make something happen. You know what my options are. (you know where this is going don'tcha...) On my way home I called the Buick dealer and asked how many miles were on their Lacrosse and if it was a CXS or a CXL. I talk to the sales girl who had met me in the parking lot and I told her straight up - I'm more than likely buying this white CXS - hers was a CXL. But I TOLD her - IF something happens, you'll hear from me before 6:00! (they would close at 6:00 pm) Then I came home to talk to Dennis and look up Kelley Blue Book! Sooooo... at 5:05 Dennis, Mom & I leave to go back down to buy my car! Two blocks down the street my phone rings. It's the Toyota Mgr. He can't get the car!
WHY? I ask.
It's not on the lot, he says. Apparently, one of the Waldorf managers took THAT car home for the weekend and it wasn't there. They had been trying and trying to contact that manager and they couldn't get ahold of him. Dennis started to turn the car around and I said NO! He looked at me like I was nuts! I said Honey... I knOw you don't believe this... but I prayed! I told God if He didn't want me to have THAT car, to do something! I BELIEVE He has spoken! Go to the Buick dealer - I'm supposed to have that CXL! Again, he looks at me like I've lost my bloomin' mind. But we went to the Buick dealer! And here's my new car!!!

I'm 100% happy with my purchase!
It doesn't have bun warmers and a few of the
other luxuries that the CXS has -
but it has leather seats and God's stamp of approval!
That's PLENTY for me!!!
VBS Day 5...

Today was NOT the day I wanted it to be! I made a mistake this week. I should have saved Thursday's craft for Friday, and done Friday's craft on Thursday.

(I would have missed out on my fabulous lesson tie-in -- but speaking craftwise, it would have been a better game plan!) Note to self: Never EVER plan PAINT for the LAST day! Yea... poor planning. Sort of. Today's THEME was Jesus SHARES. So making Friendship Bracelets really WAS a good idea!

Share one with a friend... yep! And the Little's were actually making beaded bracelets -- and that would have been fine TOO if the bead manufacturer's would make sure their products did indeed actually have holes that went all the way through! The regular beads were fine -- but we had to use safety pins to route out almost every FISH bead! (The Fish beads SAID for ages 3 and up!) That went okay with the 4 year olds -- only 11 of them. But you know... that big LAST class... ugh! We needed 25 helpers -- and we only had 7 after grabbing every available spare person!

It finally worked out that each child got at least one of their bracelets made... sOMe kids took the remaining supplies home to make their 2nd bracelet! They were pretty well frustrated - as were all my helpers. I felt bad. :(

So, then... the bigger kids were making canvas bracelets. My original idea was for them to use fabric paint. But about midway through yesterday when I realized the predicament I had gotten myself into with the paint, I decided to let the have a choice of paint or permanent markers. It turned out the markers really did a better job anyway -- the paints were really hard to control. BUT... some of the kids realllllllly wanted to use those paint pens!

I had warned them that I didn't think the paint would dry and to be very careful and only use a LITTLE if they were going to use the paints... *sigh*... but sometimes... even the bigger kids just don't listen... I should have only given them the markers. They never would have known the paint existed.

GLOB... GLOB... GLOB...
Oh well!

SOME bracelets might have to be picked up on Sunday!
(I wonder if they will be...)
Soooooo... My week didn't end on the high note that would have made it 'perfect'.
But it was still a verrrrrrrry good week! It will be well remembered by lots of kids!
And by me!!!
(just maybe not the friendship bracelets!)

VBS Day 4

I think today was my favorite day at VBS! The kids had sO much fun and of course, that means I had sO much fun too! Our project today was butterfly catchers -- my variation on the old "ball & cup" game. The kids had to color their rubber butterflies, tie the string to them, connect the string to the cup via a bead, and then decorate the cup.

It was a FUN project, it allowed a LOT of creativity, and it took up just about the right amount of time! ONE of my little trouble makers still wanted to play with frogs when he was done - but I had told him yesterday that he
could have more frog time today - so that was okay!
My favorite part about today's activity though, was how well it tied in with the lesson going on throughout VBS today! Our main idea was Jesus CARES. Our Bible verse was
1 John 4:18 -
Perfect love casts out fear. So I was able to talk to the kids about how much God cares for us and that he is ALWAYS there to CATCH us when we fall! I compared the cup to God and the butterfly to us, and told them that when playing with our toy, that WE are only human and we can't expect to catch the butterfly every time -- but that God, with His PERFECT love, WILL catch us EVERY time we call on Him! So we should never be afraid - God's there for us! Not all lessons work out quite THAT nicely! Of course, I made the mistake of telling Shawn about it -- now she says she would LOVE me to teach the Children's Liturgy from time to time... Oy!

I LOVE how intensely these girls were working on their butterflies!
(by the way... I don't want y'all to think that I've been
short changing the boys this week - our girl to boy ratio
is drastically UNeven! One class has 11 girls and ONE boy!)
It's crazy!
They decorated their cups with stickers!
I never met a kid that didn't like stickers!
and
TADA!
The finished product!
FUN!!!
Soooooo... tomorrow is the LAST day of VBS... *sigh*
The ONLY thing I'm NOT gonna miss is...
Fixin' my dern tree every morning!
(apparently my classroom has a tornado every night!)
LOL!

VBS Days 2 & 3
Day 2

I'm STILL sayin'
Oy Vey over yesterday! You wouldn't believe! First, I came downstairs to find Kitty had left a mouse in my shoe! (not the first time... but still...) Then, I'm ready to leave the house at 8:10... and at 8:15 Tammy still has not arrived. I called her and she thought she wasn't supposed to get here until 10:00!!!
Oy Vey! So of course, I had to LEAVE - which meant I had to take Mom with me again! (which really isn't a problem - she doesn't get in the way or anything ... but it gives me one more thing to worry about - because she DOES need to use the restroom from time to time - and if she goes by herself, she'll get lost!)

So we got there and things went WELL for the first 3 classes - except that this was a day that I
reallllly tried to pack too much into 25 minutes!!! I had 2 crafts for them to do! One was their picture frames, and the other was a little bear magnet with the day's bible verse on it! Real cute! I couldn't NOT do it!!! And I thought I had it planned out PERFECTLY -- everything was either peel and stick, or for gluing the frame fronts to the backs, we were using
glue dots -- ultra cool! They work GREAT and there is NO drying time!!! So, I was suuuuure I could pull this off! And I managed GREAT ... up until the last class came. Did I mention the LAST class is BIG? 25 kinders and first grade... 7 of them who are ... um... a challenge. (Quilly's kids!) On top of that my 3 teenage helpers for this group are a little less mature than some of the other groups teens! So it's one of those classes that you just take a deep breath a split second before they walk in - and you get through it!

Well... yesterday a
STORM started coming right before the last class! While they were out on the playground for outdoor activities... and some of them came in
a weeeeee bit apprehensive scared to death of the thunder and lightening. Now... as the TEACHER in this class I have 25 kids I have to worry about getting through the craft. So if ONE child is crying, I can't take time to be the comforter. I gently tell the child to go see their Team Leader. Team leaders are only supposed to have 3 or 4 kids each (at this age group). SOMEHOW we ended up with only 3 team leaders for 25 kids. (this is another contributing factor to the problem with this group!) On top of that, this age group was going to require their Team Leaders HELP on this project! Cuz Mz. Lantz can only work with 3 maybe 4 (okay - max 6) kids at one time! Period! LOL! So, things were not going tooooo great... and then the FLOOD came! No no... not crying kids.
The FLOOD. Like as in
hang on Noah! I'm gonna make it RAIN! We ended up with about 2 inches of water on the floor of my classroom! It even passed through MY classroom and into the room where snack is served! So then we had ooooooooohhhhh maybe 12 hysterical kids! I had
PROMISED them the
storm wasn't going to come in the basement! It made a LIAR out of me! So what did I do? I ignored it all and pretended NOTHING was happening. I just kept working and helping kids and saying ever so quietly to each concerned child,
It's okay... it will be taken care of. And it was! Pastor had a mop! Shawn had a mop! A couple of other adults who were not actually responsible for TEACHING classes had brooms and sponges and buckets... and the rain stopped and the water was gotten rid of -- and the kids only had to walk across pretty wet but no longer flooded floors to get back upstairs for closing ceremonies! And after they were all gone for the day and I was cleaning up my room and preparing for tomorrow, Shawn came down and she said
"Melli, you handled yourself SO gracefully today! I really appreciate that!" ROFL! I said
gracefully my eye! I was IGNORING it!!! But I thanked her anyway! And then I praised God for making me LOOK graceful to somebody in my lifetime! Then I packed up all the UNfinished picture frames that I had to take home for homework to finish for the kids... and then Mom & I headed to Annapolis to go babysit wee granddaughter! And by the time I got home last night I was crosseyed, but DID finish those picture frames, AND got today's lesson in order! And I didn't visit anybody's blogs... hardly even my own!
*******************************
Day 3

Today was a MUCH better day! Tammy showed up - on time! She and mom did some of my work for tomorrow's class and got me caught up! Gave them something to do and helped me out all at the same time - love it when that happens!
Today's craft was a very easy one and very relaxing for all parties concerned -- and best of all, we didn't need any mops! Today the theme was Friends Give... and Jesus - our forever friend, gave sight to a blind man in today's story. The kids made TWO suncatcher crosses each and were told that while they were both THEIR crosses, it might be nice if they GAVE one to a friend -- perhaps a friend who didn't get to come to VBS and didn't get one! And that way they would be giving AND sharing God's love! They mostly really liked this idea and chattered away happily about who they were making their other cross for! One little girl told me she was going to send BOTH of hers to her Oma & Opa in Germany - because they think of her often and always send her nice things! She was 6. Soooooooo sweet!

The gift that I gave to the kids today was pencils that said
PAWS for PRAISE on them and had little woodland creatures and paw prints on them! I was sO excited when I found them because they were just PERFECT for this VBS! The children were reminded that any time God blesses them with a gift, they should thank Him and PRAISE Him!!!
Even the LAST class today went smoothly! When the kids finished their crosses, I had coloring sheets for them - some were bible pages that went with our themes for the week - and others were just woodland animals. For the most part this worked GREAT - but there are two little boys who are not only "challenging" to teach - but also a
bit LOT of a behavior problem! Well, yesterday while I was babysitting Luz, we had gone to Michaels for more paintbrushes for today's craft, and while there I saw these 2 cute squishy squoozy FROGS in the clearance bin! They were only a $1 each so I got them both! I was just getting them to add to the decor ... there I go again! But they turned out to be GREAT! These two little boys had NO interest in a coloring page, and no amount of talking was going to convince them that coloring MIGHT be fun! They just wanted to tear through the room, sticking fingers in other kids projects and wandering over into the snack room and just being little terrors! It finally grabbed each one by a hand and some
come with me! I have something for you two to play with! I took them over to the credenza and gave them each a frog and they were happy as clams! They squooshed and squoze and pulled and stretched and thought they were great! It actually did keep them happy for the entire remaining 10 minutes of class! I was SO happy for that compulsive buy!!! Thank you Lord!

It all went so smoothly that I actually made it upstairs for closing ceremonies today! FIRST time this week! I don't know how I did it last year - I was there for opening and closing everyday! That's my favorite part - when we sing the songs!!! And dance!

This shot is awful -
but these two were having SO much fun!
When I got HOME from VBS this afternoon, I had a major panic attack! (not really - but I was NOT a happy camper!) I had not received my merchandise that I need for Friday's craft, and so I went on line to track it, and found that it was not due to be delivered until Friday afternoon! WHOA! This was through the USPS. I tried to call them and could only get an automaton. I tried pushing "0" to go straight to a speaking person... NOPE! Automation stating that "customer service is not available at this time". HUH??? So I called Oriental Trading and they would be MORE than happy to re-send me overnight express my items. But I pointed out that I had TRIED to get 2 Day Express when I ordered it - and they couldn't DO it because there were paint bottles involved. The woman was really sorry but did not see ANY way she could help me. So, I decided to ride down to my Post Office - but first I printed out the tracking info. On the way in the car, I prayed. Papa God, I am doing what I can, but it's not looking good right now... I knOW You can handle this and get it fixed for me! If it is your will - and I have to think it IS Your will - I know you wouldn't want the VBS kids to be disappointed on Friday - will you please get this mess fixed for me? ... So, I get to the post office and the counter lady says can I help you? and I say I think you better let me talk to somebody else so I don't keep you tied up for a long time. She says do you need to talk to a manager? I said that would do! A voice from around the corner says "We don't HAVE any!" I said "You don't know what I want!" She says "We don't HAVE any!" ... and walks up to the counter. I said "oh... but I'm a friendly pain in the butt!" She said "I'm not a manager - we don't HAVE any! But I can help you!" I said that'll do! I proceeded to explain my dilemma. She went over to her computer and pulled up the same thing that was on the paper I gave her. She asked me for my address and I gave it to her. She said - maybe this package came in this morning. MAYBE it's on the truck. The paper said it was in Martinsburg, W.Va. -- but that was at 1:00 in the morning. The paper also said it wouldn't be delivered to ME until FRIDAY! But the nottamanager said MAYBE. She called my mail carrier and my mail carrier said I DO have a package on my truck for her. Nottamanager said who's it from? My mail carrier said I don't know - it's in the back and I can't get to it right now. Nottamanager said let's wait and see what this package is. I said okay - cuz it's the only package I was expecting and I knew God did His job! Even before I asked. Again! An hour later, the package came! The kids will not be disappointed!

Oy Vey!

A crazy long day of hectic chaos!
I'll tell ya about it tomorrow sometime!
No visiting tonight... sorry...
I'm SWAMPED!
VBS Day 1

Today was Snake Paintin' Day!
We talked about how Jesus "reached out" to us and LOVED us and that he calls on us to reach out to others and love them too. And that SOMEtimes he calls on us to reach out to people that we don't really want to love... but He needs us to love them anyway. Then we talked about critters in the yard that maybe we wouldn't normally love, but that we were going to LOVE making CUTE wiggly little snakes ... I wanted to make sure we weren't making Satan! Most of the kids did pretty well with this concept! They all had FUN!

Little...

... or big!
I also gotta tell ya - the kids HUMBLED me with my "rocks"! After my schpeel about our Bible teaching, and the lesson on rinsing paintbrushes between colors, I then pointed to my bowls of rocks and told them that when they were done painting their snake they could each come up and choose a rock from my fabulous collection! Then I asked them if they knew why I would want them to have a rock? ... ??? ... ??? ... I BET you can guess what happened! The darling little imps started quoting Bible verses at me!!! Isaiah 26:4?
Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal. And... Psalm 95:1 -
Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. These two come to mind at the moment - but these wonderful children were spewing verses at me that I DO NOT have memorized!!! And then I had to admit that while THOSE were all GREAT reasons for me to want them to have rocks... that MY idea was far more simple. I just wanted them to remember that VBS ROCKS!!! LOL! They were like... That's lame. LOL! *sigh* I learn sO much from them!

The shower curtain was a big hit! Our in house photographer was taking pics of the kids for me today to put in the frames they will make tomorrow. And then we got group shots of several of the team leaders with their kids. This is one of them.
Krysti met me at church after camp and we headed down to Annapolis for lunch with my niece, Donna and her hubby. I was thinking 1990, but Donna pointed out that it was actually 1989 since I have last seen her! She was just a young teenager then! And my twins were only a few months old! WOW! Mathew was a toddler! So, it was really fun getting together and seeing each other again!

Would ya look at the rosy apple cheeks on her?!
She's a doll! And so is her hubby, Darryn... they
are a sweet couple!

Of course, one is NOT enough!
Gotta switch photographers!
It really was a GREAT day -- but I gotta tell ya -- I was SO excited about VBS last night that I only got about 45 minutes sleep! When I finally got home this afternoon, I took about an hour nap, and then it was time to head out for my Bible study! Sooooooooo... NOW I am going to get my stuff together for tomorrow morning, and hit the hay! I will visit a few over coffee in the morning... but tomorrow is ALMOST as hectic as today! I promise to do some catchin' up Wednesday afternoon though! G'night!

Help! Help! HELP!
I am GROWLING at computers tonight!
A month or two ago, right after I joined his photo meme, Tom Wiggly, from Friday SkyWatch, emailed to tell me that my blog shuts him down. He was the first person who ever told me this, so I explained that I have NO special effects on my blog, and I can't imagine WHY it would shut anyone down, but that I apologize anyway... I truly AM sorry! I just don't know what to DO about it. So, Tom & I agreed that he just wouldn't visit my blog and really that's OKAY! I have been shut down by other's blogs and it's NOT FUN! So I totally understand!
Then a few weeks ago, my very own DAUGHTER - and my very own SON both told me that they have headaches viewing my blog! Well NO WONDER they don't read it! Sheeeeeesh! Honestly though... neither of them is terribly IN to blogging, so I didn't really worry about it toooo much. Just SOMEtimes I would really like them to read what I write - so it would be nice if they could.
Then yesterday Yellow Rose left me a VERY NICE note in my blog apologizing for not visiting more often -- but explaining that my blog shuts HER down! So now that's FOUR people in just a couple of months. Now I'm wondering... HOW MANY of you are out there reading me on a feeder reader and are not able to comment and let me know you.
Well, this evening I took a GOOD look at my blog. I do not use music on my blog... I do not have any little leaves or flowers or hearts drifting down all over my page... I have a very very minimalist blog really. Soooooo... I took OFF the 3 animated graphics that WERE in my sidebar. If it's not one of them, the only other things I can think would be my Unky Moods, or my site meter. I had actually removed my site meter back in December & January because it was causing ME problems... but it's been working fine since I put it back.
Anyway... if any of you who DON'T visit because my blog shuts you down, are big and brave and want to give it another try... you can let me know if you get in!!! I'm really SORRY to all who have this problem! It does seem to be just a few... at least I HOPE it's just a few!
Weekend What-nots...

So yesterday started out with errands... the post office, Walmart (which did NOT have what I needed - can you believe it?) , the nail salon, and the hardware store (which DID have what I needed!). Then I had a hot date with my daughter and and that wee grinning girl up there *points up*! We had a BLAST playing in the pool. Oh by the way - the extra kid is Luz's brand new BFF, Julianna!

In these pictures we were doing Nana's WORLD FAMOUS JumpySpinnin~Jumpy Spinnin'... in which Nana jumps up and down spinnin' round and around singing the Jumpy Spinnin' song and little girls giggle hysterically! It is GREAT fun and I highly recommend it!

Even MOM got her toes wet yesterday!
I would HOPE she would - it was 100 degrees!
(and the water was like a bathtub!)
Sooooo today, after church, I am meeting with the gal who will be teaching the Middle Schoolers at VBS. They do everything off in their own little group -- except the games. They join the 5th graders for games. So SHE will be teaching them their crafts -- and THIS year I decided they are going to do leather work! On Friday the younger kids will be making friendship bracelets. One for themselves - and one to share with a friend! So the middle schoolers are going to make leather bracelets - and they get to do the tool work, and the painting or staining of the leather. It will be GREAT fun and they will LOVE this craft! But they DO have to learn to do it properly and leather is totally UNforgiving... so you want to try to avoid mistakes at all cost! This means that I need to teach the teacher, so that she can teach the kids! This is the ONLY part of VBS that really makes me wish I could be two people at the same time!!! I would LOVE to be with the kids on this project! (of course, I also want to be with all the little kids on their projects!) Dennis has done leather work in the past, and so he had MOST of the tools that the kids will be using. I DID buy a few new stamps... folded hands, two different crosses, the fish... 5 more mallets for hammering. WELL! I wanted them to have options! It IS Bible school after all! OKAY! I've spent a bloomin' fortune on the Middle Schoolers - I admit it! But it's WORTH it! I like the kids to get gOOd stuff....
So, after I teach Debbie how to teach Leather Working 101... then I get to go down in the multi-purpose room and DECORATE for the week ahead!!! I'm sO excited! Of course, I can't WAIT to put up the shower curtain! But I also got a BIG Tree to put up! (the kind that goes on the wall in a classroom... ) And I've got butterflies and dragonflies and ivy and STUFF. I WISH I had some BIG mountainous rocks... but what I have will have to do! And ... and ... I have little "giveaways" for them - something for each day! The first day I have some ROCKS for them! (the mom's and other teachers are gonna love me to death... givin' kids ROCKS! Go Ms. Lantz!!!) *nods* Yea... I'm givin' 'em rocks! WHY? Because VBS ROCKS! ... of course! On day 2 I'm giving them each a LEAF! Why? Because... We BEE-LEAF that Jesus is our Savior!!! After that I quit being corny and I just have some pencils and tattoos and JUMPIN' Bugs! (unless Y'ALL have some other corny ideas to share -- cuz I dig bein' corny!!! The kids practically expect it!)
So this is IT! TOMORROW starts Vacation Bible School! I am sO ready! I will NOT be around much this week guys! Besides VBS, I have a niece in town this weekend that I haven't seen since around 1990... we're meeting her & her hubby for late lunch tomorrow afternoon, and then Tuesday after VBS I go to babysit Luz ... and same on Thursday! So it really is going to be a crazy hectic week! I will try to post something each evening... and then visit as many as I can... but I make NO promises! ;-) Prayers for GREAT success and that God touches all of these little lives this week would certainly be appreciated though! Thanks!
Photo Hunt ... A Mom & Me Meme.... Project Black
Today's Theme: What IS that?
I really wasn't sure what to DO with this photo hunt this week. I don't know if we're supposed to be playing a guessing game or if we were supposed to find some kind of object that NOBODY knows what it is... I know there ARE no "supposed to's" in the Photo Hunt... but sometimes it would be good to have some sort of definition of what we're doing here! I couldn't find any unusual stuff... so I opted to go with the guessing game... I don't think this one is really too hard -- but daughter Krysti did NOT see it for what it is at all -- so I decided to go with this one! :P
The answer is further down in today's post.

What IS that?
