Krysti says this chair is miiiiiiiighty COMFY! And since she's the reason I won't be around to visit y'all today, I thought I'd use this picture of her! LOL! WE will be in Baltimore cheering on her schools Academic Team - who are playing on It's Academic (on television) today! Krysti is on the school team - but sadly, NOT on the television team! She's only an alternate! But she and I are GREAT cheerleaders, so we will do OUR job, while the REALLY SMART kids do theirs! I WILL be home this evening and will visit you then! So... everyone have a WONDERFUL weekend!
Friday Feast #113
Would you like to play?Appetizer
What is your favorite herb or spice?Wow! Just ONE? Well, I use dill a lot! On fish, on pasta,
on potatoes, in salads. I don't know that it's my FAVORITE... but
I use too many to pick just one!Soup
Name a song you like but haven't heard in a long time.
LOL! Okay... we're goin' waaaaaaaaay back on this one!
The Kingston Trio --- "Tijuana Jail"! How many of you remembe THAT one? HUH?Salad
If you were to take just one minute to write down as many things as you can think of that you need (not want) to do, approximately how many things would there be?Oh dear God! How fast can I write? About 40!Main Course
Tell something interesting about one of your family members (nothing scandalous, please, just something unique).Well... if it's not scandalous it's not fun! LOL! This isn't "too" bad! My eldest brother has a "knack" for breaking the law in front of God and everybody, and NOT getting caught! One time he was walking past a "major" hotel in downtown DC and saw a HUUUUUGE rubber tree plant in their lobby. He thought he'd like to have a tree like that for his apartment, so he walked in, picked it up (and it was QUITE heavy) and walked out with it -- just like it was the most natural thing on Earth to do! Nobody said ONE word. No one stopped him, no one chased him. He took the plant, put it in his truck and drove home! Of course, we (his family) were all appalled! HOW COULD YOU DO SUCH A THING? But that was my brother! Oh the tales I could tell ya!Dessert
What's the latest you've ever stayed awake?Oh geez! Back "in the day" I stayed up all night several times! Go to work, come home, party til waaaaaay too late to try to sleep, ... and go to work again! The YOUNG can DO these things! (but I've also done it a few times in say the past 10 years, when I get SO into a book that I can NOT put it down! I almost hate when that happens!)
Hi Ho, Hi Ho....
Well... it had to happen eventually! I got called in to work today! I almost didn't hear the phone ring this morning though - because in an attempt to NOT suffocate my hubby, I have been wearing ear plugs at night! LOL! So I JUST caught the phone as the answering machine picked up this morning. *whew* It wasn't a WONDERFUL first day back. I don't like eating breakfast at 6:00 in the morning... I'm used to waiting until about 9:00. (But I did.) And then I packed LOTS of food so I wouldn't be tempted to "buy" anything bad, and I ate it ALL! It wasn't BAD -- a can of Healthy Choice Soup, asparagus, applesauce, an apple and a Slim Fast chocolate bar (to keep me away from the snickers machine!). But by the time school let out, I was still hungry ANYWAY... so I came home and ate something before I went to work out! THIS cannot happen every day! I didn't need all that food at school. I think from now on I'll just take a vegetable and a fruit and that will hold me until I can get home -- and then eat the rest here -- and THEN go work out! Cuz now it's almost dinner time and YEP, I'm hungry AGAIN! Grrrr.... (that's my tummy rumbling!)
On the plus side, I did do about 30 minutes of WOTP during my planning period. (I can do that! I have nothing to plan! As long as I'm not providing coverage I definately plan to exercise during my planning!) Of course, I had to do it without the benefit of Leslie Sansone's expert help! Sooooooo... HOW WERE THOSE PILATES last night Melli???UGH! Pill-ah-tays are HARRRRD! As a matter of fact... for all the exercise I DO during the coarse of a day -- I OBVIOUSLY have NOT been exercising my "core" muscles... at. all. *sigh* I could not DO most of what she had us doing last night!
One of the girls at Curves today asked me if my abs were sore and I had to say NOPE! They couldn't BE sore cuz I couldn't DO the stuff! This is going to take A LOT of work before I can actually "participate" in this class! I started working on those muscles today... practicing the moves I learned last night -- at least the ones I can remember. Stay tuned folks -- I'm SURE I'll have weekly updates on THIS situation! Last night I was VERY discouraged ... but I will still go back!
The YOGA part went a lot better -- but it doesn't provide NEARLY the amount of stretching that I give myself after my daily workout. So I was a little disappointed with that - because I was "expecting" to get all this realllllllly GREAT stretching! ( have I mentioned I LOVE to stretch? ) It was kind of cool though because it focused mainly on balance -- of which I happen to have NONE -- so again, I have a LOT of work to do! And yea... I'm workin' on it!
So, that's my day and my night in a nutshell! Schools are closed tomorrow for the County Fair, so I'll have 3 days to forget that I have to go back to work again next week!
Today Is a GOOD Day!

I saw Dr. W today for a follow up after my most recent pulmonary function test. I told you when I had it that all of my numbers have gone UP -- he was THRILLED about that! And of course I got on the scale... No changes since Friday - but I've dropped 15 more pounds since HE last saw me! He was THRILLED about that too!!! He was especially thrilled because most people GAIN weight taking the antidepressent I'm on -- but I reminded him how hard I WORK to overcome that obstacle! He laughed and told me to keep on keepin' on! THEN he drew blood and ordered a mamogram for me! UGH! He just HAD to do THAT!!! I asked him if he'd come along and get a "testigram" ... he laughed and said NO WAY! Yea... right! So... I haven't set up that appointment yet - but it gives me something to look forward to. ::rolls eyes::
But! In the spirit of "keepin' on"... I AM beginning my Pilates/YOGA class tonight! I went out and bought my little yoga pad to lay on today. It's purple! I'm excited! I really have NO idea what pilates are and I'm still wondering why they are pronounced pill-LAH-tays instead of pie-lets like the guys who fly... but perhaps my instructor will have the answer to that for me! (or not) Anyway, all I know is for a half hour I will be exercising my "core" muscles, and then for the next half hour I will be doing some super stretches! Ahhhhhhh! I LOVE to stretch and have been wanting to take a yoga class for quite awhile! I'll let ya know tomorrow if I STILL love it! hehehe...
Wordless Wednesday -- In a dash!
A Little Creativity....
I just got this pasta plate back from the Pottery Craft Store! I wanted to share it with you! I'm not the GREATEST pottery artist in the world... but every now and then I paint something that really comes out pretty good!
This is the plate when I have just finished painting it. (and actually, as soon as I snapped it I realized that I needed to add the mustache and rosy cheeks) But this was
before it got glazed and fired.

Now, this is the finished product! (in the olden days we had to hand paint the glaze on, but now-a-days they just 'dip' them and it's done!) Then they put it in the kiln for about 36 hours and it comes out all shiney and beautiful!

My Krysti works at the Pottery place, so I've been making quite a bit of stuff in the past year. It's a lot of fun -- but as you can see the colors are VERY different when you are painting with them, than they are after the piece is glazed. Sometimes it's REALLY hard to picture what your piece is going to come out looking like! It's always an ADVENTURE!!! I've had a few pieces that I threw straight into the garbage. For real! But most of what I do comes out okay!
A Local Visitor!

Some of you may question the "halfway" thing if you haven't been with us since the beginning of my blog. My weight watcher at the top says my goal is 150 lb. which means I have 83 more to go. BUT... 150 is a very loooooong term goal -- My daughter and I set up a goal of 100 pounds in 1 year. So
THAT is the goal that I am
half way to! I'm sure those last 30 pounds will take MUCH longer! :) (just for your info!)
Friday Feast #112
Would you like to play?Appetizer
Measured in minutes or hours, how much exercise have you had in the last week?LOL! I write it down - so I can tell you I've had 15 hours and 25 minutes! (of "planned" exercise) Soup
If you had to change your blog title to something else, what would it be?LOL! I never thought about this before... maybe "Doing It My Weigh"??? - but that's probably already been taken!Salad
Name one television show you watched when you were 9-12 years old.Oh easy peasey! THE MONKEES! Yep! I was a HUGE Monkee fan! And NOT Davy Jones as everyone else was! I was in LOOOOOOVE with Mike Nesmith! Indeed! And I was SO jealous of his wife! But she was EVIL you know -- she wore a chinchilla COAT! ROFL! Main Course
If someone gave you $50 to spend with the one condition that it had to be educational, what would you purchase? Are the old Jaques Cousteau shows out on video? If they are I would buy them! That man was AMAZING and taught the world sO much about sea life! But if they're not, then I would buy books! I love books and love to read -- and no matter WHAT you read, it's educational -- your always developing your vocabulary! Dessert
Do you tend to prefer dark colors, neutral shades, or lighter/pastel hues?Oh dear! I'm seasonal! It's a real problem. Not for clothes - because you change them with the seasons. But for home decor! OH jeeez! My home is mostly decorated in warm fall colors - so I'm totally dissatisfied with it all Spring and Summer! I always WISH I could completely redecorate twice a year! LOL! Wouldn't it be great to have money like THAT!? (hm... maybe some of you do!)
Golly Gee! I'm a Smaller ME!

Today I had my weigh-in and measure at Curves! It was gooood news all around! (however... I weigh at the doctors TOMORROW - and that will be the official one!) But... according to Curves, this month I have lost:
Bust... -1.5 inches
Waist ... -.75 inches
Abdomen ... -1.5 inches
Hips... -.75 inches
Thighs... -.5 inches
Arms ... -.5 inches
----------------------------
TOTAL ... -5.5 inches
And they have me losing 7.6 pounds this month!
(we'll see if the docs scale agrees tomorrow...)Since joining Curves in May, I have lost 19.5 inches, 22.4 pounds, and 17.15 body fat pounds! Not bad! I'm feeling pretty darned good today!
WW Continued!
Alright... You all think your sO smart! (and you might
be!) First I'll show you the other pictures of my "thing"....
"Thing" on the Beach.

Thing on my deck.

Thing in my hand.

And thing held up!

You can see that it is THICK and Rubbery! We have only seen these once before -- about 7 years ago - also in Ocean City, MD. At that time literally THOUSANDS of them had washed up on shore! In sizes from a quarter to a tea cup saucer. This time their were not AS many -- but there were still hundreds! Kids on the beach were picking them up and using them for frisbees! It was the strangest thing! After I had seen them the first time, I came home and talked to people in the know about marine life, and NO ONE knew what I was talking about -- I would explain them and they would look at me like I was crazy! So when I saw them again THIS time I was definately bringing one home!!!
I took "thing" and these pictures down to the Calvert Marine Museum today. 3 Marine biologists and an Aquarist took a GREAT interest in thing! They are not sure (positive) what it is --
but they do "feel" that it IS some kind of a jellyfish. It's definately NOT one of the most "normal" kinds though. A) When it washed up on shore it was VERY hard rubber like -- like a car tire - only clear. I have had it in a bag in my refrigerator since the 2nd day of our vacation -- which makes it about 9 days now. It has "decomposed" a bit since then! B) It has (and never had) any tentacles. It does not sting in any way, shape or form! It's an odd critter to be sure!
I didn't think it was a "jelly" fish -- because it's not at all "jelly" like. I've picked up regular jellyfish - and they FEEL like jelly! But these are not so! They feel nothing like jelly! They feel like dog chew toys!
Well.... the marine people took my "thing" and are going to do some research with it... and they took my email addy and phone number - and they will get back to me when they think they know something! There was talk about a couple of different species ... but I looked them up on line when I got home, and they weren't them! Soooooo... we'll see. I guess I just have to wait a while longer!

Wordless Wednesday -- Not What You Think!
WHAT IS IT???
It's NOT what you think!
And I don't know what it is... but I'm going to take a ride
today and try to find out! If you come back later I'll have
more to post - and more pics!

The Waiting Game...
Soooo... How long do YOU wait after you've lost weight to get rid of the "too big" clothes?
I went shopping yesterday. Clothes shopping. In anticipation of going back to work this week. UGH! I sO do not want to go back to work! I want to stay home and work out and eat right! But that's not the point. I bought four (4) new outfits yesterday. Nothing fancy -- and certainly nothing expensive! Just 4 pairs of slacks and 4 tops to go with them. (do I only plan to work 4 days a week? LOL! Maybe!) I also have my ONE pair of jeans ... and my one pair of capris. I can get by with this. So this morning I went to put them in my closet and I didn't have any room. All the BIG clothes were using up the hangers. Soooooo I started going through the stuff. I found myself throwing away clothes from 3 diets ago! I actually had clothes hanging in my closet that I have not worn in AT LEAST 7 years! Things sooooooo far out of style that I couldn't even GIVE them away at this point! WHY??? I'm not a packrat anywhere else in my life! But for some reason, my clothes closet seems to be a "holding tank" for the OLD and outdated! LOL! Well, not anymore! I pitched 4 big green trashbags full of stuff today! And 2 more went to Good Will. I have to admit ... it DID break my heart to give up a few of those dresses that I had JUST BOUGHT last year! I only wore two of them ONE TIME! *tears* And they were cute too. And two very favorite jumpers I actually did NOT get rid of. I don't know why... I'm hoping maybe I can have them altered -- when I'm all done losing weight! So now that I've done it, I do feel a lot better. I also have almost 60 hangers hanging empty on my side of the closet! Hope for the future!
So. How long DO you wait before YOU get rid of all the old big clothes?
Sunday Funnies... and stuff....

... so ... I got on the scale this morning. NOT the official DOCTORS scale of course... I don't see that again until Friday. No... this was the UNofficial HOME scale... the one that I can never believe no matter what it says! LOL! (so why bother?) Well... having just returned from a week of eating yummy crab dip on a near daily basis, I thought it was in my best interest to see exactly how much damage I have caused BEFORE I hit the doctor's office on Friday. Actually, it's not looking too terrible. I think I gained about 3 pounds this week. (God, I HOPE I only gained about 3 pounds this week!) Was it WORTH it? Well... yea! At the TIME it was! Let's see... I had LOTS of crab dip. I had Thrasher's french fries dripping in vinegar. I had cheesecake/pecan-peanut pie/keylime pie all in one night. I had tacos. I had STUFFED flounder... stuffed mushroom caps... stuffed potatoes... Oh hell! About the ONLY healthy thing I ate all week was the steamed oysters! I ate a LOT of seafood -- but at the beach seafood is NOT the low fat/low calorie food I make at home! It's ALL stuffed with yummy crab, it ALL has yummy creamy sauces on it -- it ALL has a zillion calories added! (I did eat salad ONE night.) Oh, and on the way outta Dodge yesterday we stopped for breakfast! I ate 3 breakfasts! Eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, pancakes, creamed chip beef with biscuits! ROFL!!! That really WAS the last hurrah! Was it WORTH it? Yea... it was! So that 40 lb. blinkie will just have to stay put for a few more weeks! I'm off to PEDAL now! My bike MISSED me!
** oh! I DID go to
Curves while I was away! I only went 3 times though -- but I did 4 trips around the circuit each time! I also only played with Leslie ONCE while I was gone! I did hula hoop EVERY day though -- lots as a matter of fact! It was GREAT to stand out on our deck and do it while I watched the waves -- with the ocean breeze blowing on me! Or to just stand there and hula while we were all sitting around talking. I'm going to miss that! Hooping in my kitchen just isn't quite the same! ;)
Ocean City 2006
We're hooooo-ooooome!
We had a great and relaxing time on our vacation!
The weather didn't cooperate ENTIRELY... but we had fun anyway!
This is where we stayed!
Our unit was the 5th one in from the right. We really didn't "do" alot. Mostly we just hung out and relaxed. I mean -- it's the BEACH! How much more do you NEED, really?

Me on the beach ...
and ... Dennis on the beach.

The first few days it was just Me and Dennis and Krysti and Ricky there. Here Ricky burries Krysti right up to her chin!

A couple of mornings Krysti and I went up to the boardwalk and rented these recumbant tricycles! These were soooooo MUCH fun! And I was sO proud of myself! Last year when we were there I couldn't ride one of these to save my soul! THIS year I ran circles around Krysti!!! Her legs were sore and tired -- I was like the energizer bunny! I just wanted to keep going and going and going....!!! LOL!

On Tuesday, Ricky went home so he wouldn't miss any classes at school. Amanda and Mathew arrived on Wednesday night. (Derek was supposed to come, but got an offer to try out to be drummer for a local band, and he really wanted to stay home and do that instead.)
Amanda in the ocean
The water was really pretty warm -- but air temperatures were rather cool all week! For one reason or another we couldn't get IN the water (beyond our toes) until Friday! This was Krysti's first time in at all! She went running in and turned right around and went running right back out!!! It was sooooo funny! Amanda just happend to be taking pictures at the time and caught it... tooo cute! She did end up getting all the way in eventually -- but none of us lasted too long as the water was a LOT rougher than it looked! ( and it was not NEARLY as rough as it had been! ) I think Florence might have been messing with us a bit!
Mathew, Me, and Krysti playing on the beach.
Mathew relaxing after a dip!We DID do some other stuff -- we played the required round of miniature golf. Krysti and Ricky went Jet-skiing. (Ricky's first time!) And we took a boat tour after dinner at a really nice restaurant one night. But you know... SOME times pictures just DON'T come out like you hoped they would! Oh, and one night Dennis and I drove into Delaware to play Slot Machines! That was fun! He only lost about $50 -- and I broke even! We were there for about 5 or 6 hours -- so I thought we did pretty well! And we played LOTS of games on the boardwalk -- mostly those silly Poker machines! UGH! We just LOVE those stupid machines! (but who's gonna take pictures of THAT?) I do have to tell ya this though -- we had SO much fun! You know, those machines spit out tickets for every "winning" hand you get... and everytime we went up there we would accumulate HUNDREDS of tickets -- usually over a thousand. Well -- all that stuff they have to give away for the tickets is just junk ... we didn't want anything! We just wanted the fun of playing the silly games! So at the end of the night we would each take our tickets and find an unsuspecting CHILD to GIVE them to! OH! It was GRAND!!! Sometimes their little faces would just light up like a Christmas tree ... and sometimes they would look at us like we had LOST OUR MINDS! Of course the parents were always SO appreciative! That, I think, was the HIGHLIGHT of our vacation!
Now... I'm off to see what all my friends have been up to this week! I'll be stopping by YOUR place soon, I'm sure!
YABBA DABBA DOO!
And that's where I'm at!
See ya on the 16th!
Or maybe the 17th...

The Smaller Than Anticipated News...
Well... the "Late Breaking" news is NOT as exciting as I had HOPED it was going to be! (obviously I was pretty darned sure, since I put the teaser up!) I had HOPED I was going to change that blasted 40 pound blinkie to a new and imporved 50 pound blinkie today! And I would have been dancing in the streets and all over the board and EVERYWHERE! But that blasted scale could NOT be finagled an extra HALF POUND today -- and so I only get to announce that I have now lost 49.5 lb! And it would be pretty easy to say "oh well... next week!" ... except that NEXT week I'm on vacation all week... and even though I'm going to go to Curves 5 days while I'm on vacation, and even though I'm taking my 3 lb. weights AND Leslie Sansone WITH me on vacation, and even though I bought a brand new 3 lb. hoola hoop today to ALSO take to the beach with me next week, I am pretty positive that I will NOT LOSE weight next week and I will be pretty darned happy if I can add fighting waves and walking beaches and boardwalks to my regime and NOT GAIN next week!
BUT... the good news is STILL very good news -- and in HONOR of having lost 49.5 pounds, I have put new progress pictures up on my Weight Chart! Run along now! Go see! Then come back and continue reading!
I have OTHER good news. I had my 6 month pulmonary function test yesterday and it went VERRRRY well! This is another area that proves how beneficial exercise is! The results were that while my overall lung "capacity" remained the same, allllllll of my other numbers went up! And not just a little bit! Basically, my lungs are functioning NOW approximately 20% better than they were 6 months ago!!! HoooYA! Take that! Soooooo... I'm a happy camper! And my lungs are happy campers too! ...but I would have been EVER so much happier
IF I had hit the 50 lb. mark!

He Went Out With Adventure....

I am sO deeply saddend by the death of
Steve Irwin today. He was swimming in the Great Barrier Reef, when he swam over a stingray hidden in the sand. The barbed tail came up and pierced his chest, going through his heart. My heart goes out to his wife, and 2 small children. The Great Crocodile Hunter was such an endearing and entertaining chap. A great family program full of good clean fun! He will be missed.

Sunday Funnies....
I'm sorry...
My apologies to any Photo Scavenger Hunters who stopped by my blog today! We had lost power due to Ernesto and I couldn't participate in the game.
Rock Me Like a Hurricane!
It's here!
It's here!
The RAIN is here!
The rain feels good!
It's good it's here!
Hail to Life!
And Hail to Earth!
Praise Mother Earth!
It's here!Hey! I praise God, Mother Earth, and the
Rainbabies! I am HEARTing this storm! We have not had neeeeear enough rain this summer, and this just can't be bad no matter how bad it gets! Yesterday I showed you the beach with ol' Ernie on the way ... well today is the beach with his arrival!

Apparently someone has forgotten to tell the seagulls that there's a Tropical Storm! They are huddled closer together today though... I wish you could see HOW HARD it's raining in this picture. I jumped out of the car and ran for a tent that sits on the boardwalk, and I was DRENCHED when I got there! And yet... raindrops just don't show up in pictures too well! LOL!
The bay is a LOT choppier today than it was yesterday!
We DO have a bit of wind happening too.
This is one of the Maryland flags that flies on the boardwalk.
I think they might need a new pole... just a guess.
And we have a bit of flooding starting already! This is a block OFF the bay. My son works across the street from here and I'm thinking that by the time he gets off work tonight he MAY not be able to get his little car down the street. I MIGHT have to go pick him up with the Expedition! But that's okay! Because this rain is GOOD!!!
THANK YOU GOD!
THANK YOU JESUS!
(i'm sure they read my blog...)
