The Coffee Meme
This one is an oldie -- but I don't remember doing it! I don't remember where I GOT it either! (oops! sorry!)
Your first cup, when do you drink it? The minute my pot stops brewing it! I don't get up to an alarm clock - so it could be anywhere from 4:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m! But when I wander down stairs, I head straight for the kitchen and start the coffee brewing!
How many cups a day do you drink? Usually two. But on occasion I may have a cup later in the day too.
Decaf or real? REAL! Definitely.
Sugar, milk or cream? I like the flavored creamers - fat free french vanilla is the favorite and most frequently used -- but occasionally I go for something spicy -- cinnamon, or gingerbread... they are already sweet too - so I don't use additional sugar or sweetener.
Your favourite way of brewing? I do LOVE drip coffee... but I'm thinking of investing in a percolator too... Perks bring back such sweet memories!
With whom do you prefer to enjoy your coffee? Well, weekend coffee with Hubby is great! But really I can enjoy a cup with pretty much anyone who wants to enjoy a cup with ME! How 'bout YOU?
Your favorite brand? I am NOT a coffee "snob" -- but even I know that not all coffee's are created equal! I do NOT like Starbucks brand - I will tell you that! I usually buy Maxwell House regular, mild blend. I also like Folger's - I think it's their "morning blend" or "country morning blend" -- something like that. One time Hubby bought Choc Full O' Nuts though... I thought I would DIE! It was awful! I don't know which "flavor" it was though -- I just know it turned me off that brand! LOL!
Where do you prefer to drink your coffee? I'm assuming we're talking about on an average day at MY house! (because honestly I would prefer to drink it out on the deck at the beach, watching the ocean!) But on a typical morning, I prefer either sitting in the kitchen OR here at my computer visiting with all of you!
What does your favorite cup look like? Darn! I HAVE shown THIS before!

But it IS my current favorite.
Espresso, Cappuccino or Latte Macchiato? My HONEST favorite is just good ol' plain ol' cup o' coffee! But OF THE 3 - I would say Cappuccino!
Favorite occupation while drinking coffee? Reading -- either the paper, a book, or a blog.... OR talking. Depends on what's available at the time!
Oh yea...
HAPPY LEAP DAY!!!

Thursday 13 ...
13 Things
Beginning with Letter
That MAY describe Melli...
1. Education. Despite the fact that I have very little advanced education, and what I do have came from trade school rather than college, I have managed to spend 11 years of my adult life IN the field of Education -- as a substitute teacher. It still amazes me that a person of MY educational background can DO that -- that the requirements are not MUCH higher -- and it also amazes me how much MORE I learned in those 11 years of TEACHING than I ever did during my 12 years as a student!!!
2. Elephant. *grin* And speaking of education... ELEPHANT was the very first word I ever learned to spell as a child! Yep -- even before CAT or DOG. I don't believe in starting small!
3. Emotions. Believe it or not, I am not an overly emotional person. I do not cry during MOST sad movies, or at MOST weddings (my children's will be the exception)... I'm not terribly sentimental. BUT... whatever I AM feeling -- you're probably going to know it! If I'm happy or sad, amused or annoyed ... you pretty much know where you stand with me!
4. Exaggerate. This is something that I never ever EVER ... EVER... do! Nope! Not in a million billion k'jillion years! If hungry tigers were chasing me for my FLESH I would NEVER think of exaggerating!!! Cross my heart and hope to DIE!
5. Excited. It does not take MUCH to get this girl excited! (it is too different than emotional!) I get excited over the simplest things! Sometimes it amazes even ME! Nature especially tends to excite me! Sunsets, squirrels, storms ... hmmm... lots of "s" words...
6. Eggs. How do I love them? Let me COUNT the ways! I LOVE them scrambled, fried, boiled, poached, deviled, pickled and in egg salad! Eggs Benedict and omelettes too! Can you think of any I missed? Maaaaan I love eggs! It's really amazing I don't have high cholesterol!!!
7. Easy. I am forever looking for the "easy" way out. I don't often find it... *sigh*
8. Exercise. I used to be waaaay better at this! I LOVE what it does for my body... but... check out number 7 -- yep... I'm still lookin' for the eeeeeasy way out!!! LOL!
9. Eyes. Mine are green. I wish they were brown - but they're not... they are green. I love eyes. When I talk to you, I want see your eyes. And when I listen to you, I still want to see your eyes. I really do believe our eyes are windows into our soul. They say so much! Some people have a hard time looking you in the eye... but not me. I love to see your eyes!
10. Escapades. I am a Big Fan of escapades! (not Ice Capades - though I like them too!) Escapades! The dictionary defines escapades as: a usually adventurous action that runs counter to approved or conventional conduct. Hm... yes! That might explain several situations some of you have found me in! (riding through car washes on top of my truck comes to mind...)
11. Escalators. Aren't they FUN? I remember when I was a kid, the THRILL of stepping ON to one - and having MADE it! My mother was forever warning me of the dangers of escalators and of being careful not to trip getting on one! (i guess tripping getting off was okay... but don't trip getting ON!) And I can remember when I was VERY small her having a death grip on my arm to ensure that I didn't trip getting on -- and how relieved I was when I finally graduated to being allowed to step onto it by myself!!! I still love escalators today! And I think ALL office buildings should have them... because...
12. Elevators. I hate them! I'm not afraid to use them. I do use them all the time. But there is always that little inkling in the back of your mind about WHAT IF??? What IF it stops midway? What IF it should suddenly drop 20 stories? Yea.... I'm claustrophobic people! Elevators and I just don't seem to hit it off! Gimme a good ol' escalator any day!
13. Earthquake. I have never experienced an earthquake... but I do WANT to. Not a 7.9 or anything like that! But maybe just a little ol' 6.5.... a little shake, rattle, and roll! I wanna be like Carole King! I wanna feel the earth move under my feet... just once! Well... maybe twice! (If I like it!)
*wee little note*
today is my first periodontal procedure...
prayers are welcome!
Oh... and I won't be around...
I'm LOOPY... again.
Wordless Wednesday ... the series...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She's coming to play today!
Seeeeeya!
Hide~n~Seek!
Where am I?Where AM I?WHERE am I???
Olly Olly Oxen FREEEEEE! LOL! I yam HERE! I have not been missing! I have been around to some of your blogs... I have simply been trying ... oh TRYING... God BLESS me, I've been TRYING to get my house clean! Have I succeeded? Noooo... not even close! But I've been trying! Of course, had it NOT rained today that might have helped, because once I got the kitchen floor scrubbed and the foyer floor scrubbed, then Jewl went outside to ... ummm... bark -- and when she came back IN, she hit every bloomin' block on the kitchen floor!!! I guess when ya have 4 feet it's not so hard to do that... but dang! I could have done without it! The foyer floor faired a little better -- only Derek's 2 size 10's clomped across it (without wiping his feet).
And then... there's always the amount of HELP I get cleaning to consider! You know... I let mom DUST! oh... did I mention we had to take doing dishes away from her??? Yes... she developed a "thought" of her own... risky business that! And this "thought" told her that she should start putting the dishes AWAY too. Only the thought FORGOT to remind her to ALWAYS wash them first... so I started finding dirty dishes put away in the MOST outlandish places! But sometimes I found dirty dishes put away in the RIGHT places... and that was even WORSE!!! Sooooooooo... no more dishes for mom! Tis sad... BUT... there is the Swiffer Duster! Yea... Mom's not crazy about dusting... she keeps bringing it back to me and asking me where she should PUT it. So far I have kept my Christian tongue on that! Instead I just keep reminding her that the top of the mantle and the ceiling fans exist. But actually she had to dust the television 4 times before the screen was even clean.
When the children were small, Derek's psychologist had given me this GREAT tip for "punishing" the children when they didn't want to help with their chores... and other infractions. He suggested I get a big bag of packing peanuts and scatter them.... and have them pick them up and put them back in the bag! For a LONG time I owned 3 big green trashbags FULL of packing peanuts ... Oh my kids hated to see those bags come out! BUT... Krysti suggested I get a bag for MOM! "DO it Mom! It'll give her something to DO!" ... LOL! Instead I got a jar of marbles. I can scatter it and blame it on the cat! MOM! Will you pick these up please???? Don't BE like that! Do NOT judge me! Leave that to God.... I think HE gets it!
I have noticed this... Mom does not come NEAR me if I am doing one of two things. If I am cleaning out the fireplace, she is as scarce as snowflakes in July... (in the northern hemisphere). She does NOT want to risk being asked to help with THAT!!! LOL! And the other thing is when I'm cleaning the kitty litter box. Now this is FUNNY! The kitty litter box is in my powder room ... If I'm washing dishes, doing laundry, cooking dinner, whatever - Mom is standing about half an inch away from me... and asks about every 3.5 seconds if there is anything she can do to help. You know, I've spent 20 years wishing for somebody to offer to help! (God DOES have a sense of humor!) But the other day I was cleaning the kitty litter -- and not just scooping - but replacing the litter. I looked up and in the mirror I saw Mom standing... quiet as a little church mouse... just standing about 4 feet back into the kitchen --- just where she could keep an eye on ME - but thought she was out of my site! I was LAUGHING my butt off on the inside! Then... as soon as I got it all cleaned up and set back in place and started tying up the trash bag, she walked in and said can I help with anything? LOL! I swear one night while I'm cookin' dinner and she is trippin' me up throughout the kitchen, and asking for something to do ... I'm gonna GIVE her kitty litter!!! LOL! (nooooooo... I won't... I wouldn't DARE! ... but it's fun to think about!)
Soooooooo... anyway... no... I haven't been lost or sick or dead or missing.... I've just been trying to catch up on living! And it doesn't matter WHAT I do anymore -- it ALL goes a little (or a lot) slower than it used to!
Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt ... Wooden
Join the
blogroll. Visit participants.
Sooooooo... this was NOT my first idea of what to show you for wooden this week. However, the timing was just
oh so appropriate ... so I figured why not?
We had a bit of an ice storm last night, and so we just stayed home and did "home" stuff today. Laundry... vacuum... you know. Annnnnnd... I put a fire in the fireplace. Yes I did! A beautiful fire! See? A "wooden" fire, if you will....
But, apparently I tried to burn the house down! Because while I was upstairs shifting laundry around and putting some away.... that top log jumped OUT of the fireplace and landed on my carpet! See?
All I can say is this must be - and thankfully it IS - some heavy duty flame resistant carpet! I did NOT smell it burning! I only smelled laundry detergent and dryer sheets. Dennis, who was down tinkering in the
garage, smelled it and "wondered" why it smelled so strong. He thought he'd just come up and "check" ... and when he walked into the living room there was a FLAMING log on the carpet!!! (yep - a
wooden log!)
Where was Mom? In the next room watching game shows. She didn't notice anything either.
I'm thinking God was watching us.
Thank you Lord!Ohhhhhhhhhh.... so what WAS I
planning to show you for wooden?
This!
A hand carved motorcycle that my hubby made!
Woodwork is ONE of his hobbies!
Thursday 13 ...
11. Daybreak. This is a time of day I especially like when I'm at the beach. To sit on the deck and watch the sun come up over the ocean, with a steamy cup of coffee, and the roar of the waves... Ahhhhhh....
12. Depression. This should have been way higher on the list! I AM a depressed person - have been since I was a teenager - can't even imagine a time in my life when I will not be medicated for it, and as long as I am NO ONE WOULD EVER KNOW!!! I can not stress strongly enough that if you THINK you MIGHT suffer from depression... GET HELP! You really CAN lead a normal (don't read the rest of this post okay?) life!!!
13. Dessert. Always save the BEST for last! Dessert is BEST when it's not a plain butter sugar cookie... but until after Lent, that's the best I can do!
THE END... for now!
Sunday Seven...
Since the day is not quite over yet, and I happen to be awake for a little while... I thought I would go ahead and sneak in a Sunday Seven -- just under the wire!!! :) Seven things I am
thankful for this past week!
1. Prayerful friends. I'm so thankful to all the people who prayed for me and my surgery -- and also to all of you who prayed for Lazy Daisy and HER lap band surgery! We are both doing well, we're both a little loopy, and we're both surviving on liquid diets!!! We're SUCH good friends!!! LOL!
2. Anesthesia! Oh yes! I am definitely thankful for it this week! Unlike Daisy, I have had general anesthesia MANY times... and I must admit - I LIKE it! The stuff they use in the Oral Surgeon's office isn't actually "general" anesthesia though -- they say it doesn't "put you to sleep" -- but that you are totally unaware of anything and remember no pain. They are accurate! It was very easy going in and out of it too -- but I've never really had any problems with general either.
3. A handsome hubby who has looked after ME by looking after his MOM and keeping her out of my hair! I am the type of patient who just likes to go hide in a cave (my bedroom) and sleep, read, or lay around in a vegetative state until the pain goes away.
Fortunately for me, there has been NO PAIN, but that has been because of the good drugs that keep me feeling Loopy... and thus it is still all I want to do! LOL!
4. The other task that Handsome Hubby has been great about is bringing me strawberry shakes from Arby's! The poor man had planned to get me a huge box of chocolates to devour the night before my surgery -- being that it was Valentine's Day and all... and I told him a few days prior "DON'T DO IT" -- because of Lent and all... so he has been very happy to keep me supplied in strawberry shakes -- which feel ever so good and taste so yummy!!!
5. You'll want to BIGGER this one!!! I am sO thankful for this little Valentine Fairy! And yes... she DID visit me on Valentine's Day. She came bearing gifts of homemade cards and cookies! (NON-chocolate cookies!) In return I gave her some store bought valentines, a heart shaped box of chocolates, and MANY MANY MANY hugs & kisses!!!
6. I'm very thankful for the Neurologist that I took Mom too on Thursday -- it was for a memory evaluation... hahaha... She gave us some sleep medication that helps keep Mom from wandering so much. She also gave us an additional memory medication that we have not yet noticed any benefit from. And she gave me some actual "helpful" advice on finding "help" in the county. I will work on THAT this week!
7. I'm thankful that my darling Amanda has already offered to take me to my next two "procedures" ... and drive me home -- since they will once again make me LOOPY! Seems this is going to be a pretty regular "state of being" for me for the next 3 weeks or so! Yippee.
YOU Asked For It . . .
WHAT
could this mouth possibly
be so happy about?
Why, the GOOD NEWS over atLazy Daisy's Blogof course!!!
HER surgery went well and she is on
her way to being a
SKINNY DAISY!!!
Whoooo hoooo!
Loopy is as Loopy does....
I'm here! I'm alive! I'm LOOPY as a FrootLoop! But the teeth are gone... you just can't SEE it right now. They put my partial IN to keep the swelling down and I'm not allowed to take it out until tomorrow. Of course... no one told me HOW to take it out so that will be fun in itself... But yea... what the heck... I'm so NOT vain ... once I can I will certainly show you my toothless grin... Y'all are really SICK for wantin' to see it though!!! hehehe... Vicodin is GREAT and I've felt NO pain thus far! Of course... I've done a LOT of sleeping. I plan to do some mOre of that too! I might get around to visit a few folks today -- but please don't hold it against me if I don't get to you... It's HARD to think and read!
Lazy Daisy has her Lap Band surgery at NOON today... please keep her in your prayers.
So Long! Farewell!
If THIS smile has made YOU smile in the past...you may want to wave bye-bye!By the time most of you read this eleven of these teeth... including 5 in the top FRONT...will have gone missing!They will be replaced by prettier yet far less functional models.(where is the justice in THAT???)I apologize in advance that I will not be around for awhile.I do plan to be involved in a Vicodin Stupor for the nextseveral days! For those of you who are jealous -don't bother! It knocks me completely outand I do NOT get to enjoy it!******************Now... if you're done eeeewwwing and ugh-ing about my mouth,my friend Lazy Daisy is having really REALLY surgerytomorrow -- please go give her some love andmost especially some PRAYERS forsafe & successful surgery!I would go myself...but I'm in thatVicodin Stupor!
I have, however, already prayed her up!
NONSENSE!!!
Serious nonsense - but nonsense just the same! So I got a call back from Mom's doctor telling me that a) her blood work is all good! That's the good news! And b) there apparently is NO help for me in our community until Mom gets to the point of needing HOSPICE or something similar! I'm thinking this is just utterly ridiculous -- but Pastor has been looking into things (unaware to me) and HE is having a heck of a time coming up with ANYTHING outside of the Baltimore area too! I am not even remotely close to being included in the Baltimore area -- and would not even be willing to drive that far for say a "support group" or anything like that... so this is just totally UNacceptable! But for the moment, it's looking like this IS what it IS! We are all going to continue looking -- and we'll see! I think we must all be barkin' up the wrong trees... there's got to be some magic little pocket we haven't hit on yet!
On a better note -- Dennis and I were finally able to GET (signed, sealed and delivered) Power of Attorney for Mom this week! And God BLESS those lawyers! He certainly blessed US with them!!! They totally turned their little heads and looked the other way in allowing her to sign those papers - and they witnessed them! I knew we were BLESSED when our attorney introduced her associate to Mom and Us.... and then Mom turned around and introduced US --
"This is my son, Dennis (which she only remembered because OUR attorney had just said his name!)
and ... um... uh... a real good FRIEND of ours!" OY! But they laughed and made a joke - and I knew it was going to be okay! Right down to having to tell her her own initials in every slot she had to initial, and the date in every spot she had to date! If ANYone EVER contested this we would be sooooooooo sunk! Thankfully, Dennis IS the only living child and so no one will.
It's not that we couldn't GET Power of Attorney - if we HAD to go through the courts -- of course we could! (sOMebody has to be able to take care of her!!!) It would just be a lot more traumatic and involved! And totally un-necessary -- which obviously these two ladies understood and appreciate.
Today we go for her
memory evaluation. Krysti wants to go along because she thinks it's going to be fun! And it
could be... but I'm thinking it might be more like torture to watch... There is a fine line between what is hysterically FUNNY -- things like putting her bra on backwards! -- and things that are just too sad... like not having a clue where she lives or who she lives with. I often times wonder during the day
who does she
think I am???
Why does she
think she's
with me??? But if I ASK her... it appears she doesn't
think at all. She just
accepts. And
that is saddest of all.
Thurs. 13 ... Certainly "C"...
13 things beginning with letter
that describe me...
or that I just happen to like... 1. Creative. I have simply GOT to have some sort of creative outlet available at ALL times!!! UNfortunately, most of the time anymore, it is simply finding time to blog and fill out silly meme's.... but I actually do have very many creative talents to draw from and I enjoy all of them!!!2. Chocolate. This does NOT mean as much to me as it once did -- I dO still love it, but I find that it is more of an addictive thing than a true love! (how's that for fitting LOVE into this weeks TT?) I gave up chocolate for lent -- but because it's not as important as it once was, I also gave up CAKE and doughnuts.3. Cake. That which I SHOULD have given up INSTEAD of chocolate -- because it IS still that important to me!!! UNfortunately! Regardless though... I did give it up - and God is SURELY appreciative of my efforts! I have NOT cheated - no one morsel! (and I won't.)4. Church. I LOVE my little church!5. Camera. NEXT year I will either FAST a few days during lent ... or I will give up my camera! I think either one would kill me! I love to take pictures -- mine are not professional quality and never will be... but I sure have FUN with it!!!6. Colorful. SOME people say I am a very "colorful" personality.7. Clever. Others say I am clever. SOMEtimes this is true. Other times it is FALSE!8. Casual. This maybe should have been number one! I don't really DO dressed up -- unless it's Easter Sunday ... or a Tea Party... with cooperative friends... which I don't have! Because they all like to be CASUAL... like me!9. Curious. I am often curious. Some say "nosey"... but really I'm not nosey - most of the time. I'm just curious! NOSEY means wantin' to be in other people's business! I don't really care about other people's business unless they WANT me to care about it! But CURIOUS involves wonderment. I am FULL of wonderment! I WONDER what the face at the top of the statue looks like? Why? Because it's there and the artist MADE it... and yet I can't SEE it from down on the ground... and so I'm curious... ... ... You see?10. Crazy. I have been accused of being this before too. Almost every day - but who's counting?11. Contemplative. I am definitely contemplative. I LIKE to think. I like LOTS of time to think. I don't get NEAR enough time to think anymore. 12. Competent. Once upon a time I liked to think of myself as being quite a competent human being. Lately I'm just not so sure... I think I am... but my kids are trying to convince me I'm not! Some days they win!13. Curvaceous. Overly. WAY overly. I was doing sO good with diet and exercise... what the heck happened??? I don't mind being a bit curvy ... I just don't want the curves to be quite so BIG! Mmm hmmm....
Wordless Wednesday ... truly.
Last week 70....
THIS week... 10!
It is soooooooooooooo
COLD!!!
I even have SOCKS on!
And if I didn't have
to go out today...
I would have
a fire...
But I DO have to go out!
Brrrrrr!
Sunday Seven
A list of seven things I am thanking God for this week. 1. Son Derek had a party at our house last night. I came downstairs this morning to find that my house was just as I had left it!!! Those little rascals CLEANED UP after themselves! I'm positive Sarah (the girlfriend) was responsible for this ... I LOVE that little girl!
2. I finally got Mom (MIL) in to see a doctor this week. It was not as productive as I'd hoped because her old doc had failed to get her files to the new office in time -- but we both liked the new doctor and SHE (the doc) is going to set me up with the home health care/adult day care people -- and that way insurance will pay for it. I don't know when it will be happening -- but I do know HELP is on the way!!!
3. Hubby took us all out to dinner last night! We were going to try the new Green Turtle that just opened a week or so ago -- but the wait was about an hour long. (too long for Mom!) So we went down the street to a place called Mom's In The Kitchen - we really like it and the food is excellent! It was fun.
4. Mom and I spent the afternoon with Luz & Amanda on Friday... had lunch and then went to the mall, where I bought Luz a good rubber bouncy ball - the kind used for 4 Square. She proceeded to bounce it through the mall, and we stopped in center court (the middle of our mall, where the fountains and such are.) There is a HUGE open space with about 40 foot ceilings - and you're down several steps all around so it was a GREAT place to play ball! Luz and I played, bouncing it back and forth to each other -- she was VERY impressed with Nana's SUPER Bouncer abilities! It was so much fun! I LOVE it when fun "just happens" like that! We never could have PLANNED for that... it just happened!
5. Daughter Krysti completed orientation at the BOE this week and as soon as all her paperwork and background investigation are complete she will be ... you'll never guess ... a new SUBSTITUTE teacher in the county! LOL! This is just for this semester until she returns to college in the Fall... but I have to laugh! After the stories I've told through the years, I never figured one of my kids would follow THAT path! hehehe... but then again... they also SAW me enjoy it! She's pretty sure she'll do it BETTER than I EVER did anyway!
Of course she is! She's 18!!!
6. Mom and I were back at Paint & Pottery yesterday. Krysti has me on this new adventure of painting all new dinner wear ... one piece at a time. I was determined NOT to make Mom paint this time... but her things from last time were ready to be picked up - and when she saw them, she decided she DID want to paint something else. This time she did a little salad plate -- all blue with 3 tulips on it! Okay... I helped by drawing the tulips for her -- very simple ones! But she did all the painting! She enjoyed it this time! *Quilly - you're sO smart!*
7. I've discovered that Mom really really REALLY likes BOWLING! She used to bowl on a league with husband years and years ago! (Back when Dennis was just a kid!) She was a little discouraged that she doesn't do "as well" as she did back then -- cuz yea - she REMEMBERS bowling! She even remembers lane courtesy and everything!!! -- but she still enjoys it! I am sO going to have her doing this on a regular basis! I'm not sure she could handle the speed of a league again -- but I definitely want to find her some playmates!!! LOL! I'm workin' on that!
Money Matters... annnnnnnd Aloha Friday!
I found this meme over at Cafe at the End of the Universe. It looked like fun... but is FAR too telling about me!!!
Growing up I thought money was . . . fun to earn. (I always enjoyed it back then!)
My father taught me money was . . . scarce. (as was he)
My mother taught me money was . . . not as important as you think!
In terms of money, I always thought I would have . . . enough to be happy.
If I won the lottery, I would . . . share a LOT, spend a bit, save some...
My first memory of money is . . . my allowance! I got $1.50 a week, and I used it to buy TEEN magazine and powdered candy straws! ( I think I was 8 or 9 years old )
I am smart about money because . . . I can't even pretend here! I'm NOT smart about money! I love to spend it, and I LOVE to give it away!
What scares me about money is . . . that people put far too much value on it! You can't take it with you -- and you don't know when you're going!
I would risk a lot to have . . . the chance to REALLY make a difference - even if just to one family.
My attitude toward spending money is . . . do it. If you have some, use it. Either to help someone that doesn't have any -- or to enrich your own existence. (My preferred form of enrichment is either travel or "shows" -- musicals mainly!)
I consider debt as . . . *shrug* ... a part of life.
In my opinion, saving money is . . . wise ONLY to a certain point. I think it's smart to keep a few months ahead on your bills... and to plan for retirement -- and MOST of us can't even do that!!! But I don't think it's necessary to HOARD millions. I always say "If
I had Bill Gates money... well... I wouldn't
HAVE Bill Gates money!" And the reason I wouldn't have it is because I can think of SO many places where that money could be used to truly benefit people, rather than sitting collecting
dust interest. (and don't get me wrong, because I DO know that Bill Gates DOES use some of his money for the purpose of helping others... but he still has an awful LOT stashed away...)
Of course, if you don't wish to do all that, you can just answer MY question in MY comments! ;) My question today is:Did you give up something for Lent?And if so, what?My Answer is:I gave up chocolate and cake and donuts.
Just In Time!
I found this little quiz over at Jen's place...
It also had THIS to say about me...
You're the time of day right around sunrise, when the sky is still a pale bluish gray. The streets are empty, and the grass and leaves are a little bit sparkly with dew. You are the sound of a few chirpy birds outside the window. You are quiet, peaceful, and contemplative. If you move slowly, it's not because you're lazy – it's because you know there's no reason to rush. You move like a relaxed cat, pausing for deep stretches that make your muscles feel alive. You are long sips of tea or coffee (out of a mug that's held with both hands) that slowly warm your insides just as the sun is brightening the sky.
.... but I don't believe a word of it!
The only time I'm like that is ...
at 6:49 a.m!
What time are you?
Thurs. 13 ... "B"... just Because...
THURSDAY THIRTEEN
13 things, important to Melli, beginning with letter ...
1. Beach. Yes... we ALL know I LOVE the beach, would live there if I could, and only wear shorts and t-shirts whenever possible! (by the way - yesterday was a shorts day! YES! In February!!! Ya gotta LOVE that! Thank you Lord!)
2. Blogs. Well... I couldn't deny it if I wanted to, now could I? Of course I love blogs! And all my blog readers!!! I love them a little mOre when I feel like I actually have something to say... but when I don't... I don't!
3. Bread. Guilty as charged! Warm bread fresh from the oven is the best! But I like it a few days later from the store too! LOL! I do prefer dark breads to light though -- or at least a good grainy bread. I'm not crazy about white UNLESS it is straight from the oven!
4. Butter. *sheepish grin* Well, you really can't love bread and NOT love butter... right?
5. Backgammon. I love this game! I haven't played it in AGES -- but when my kids were small, I taught them all how to play it, and it was one of our family favorites. One night we had another couple over for dinner, and the guy - Mike - was a backgammon player. Well... Derek (who was 4) said HE wanted to play Mike, and Mike agreed. Mike could not BELIEVE the skill level that Derek played at -- the first game he thought he would "let Derek win" -- but Derek gave him a real run for his money --- and Derek ended up beating Mike 3 for 3!!! I must say Mike took it real well... but he was very surprised! I LOVE that story!!!
6. Books. Thomas Jefferson was quoted as saying "I can not LIVE without books" ... and I agree with him whole-heartedly! They really are my MAIN source of entertainment!
7. Barefoot. I do not LIKE socks and shoes. Would you expect anything different from the shorts and T-shirt girl??? I am almost always barefoot. It has to be REALLY cold for me to wear socks in the house -- and shoes just aren't happening!
8. Banjo. Yep! Yep! Yup! Like me some foot stompin' mew-zic! hehehe... I do! I like to listen to some Banjo... there was a kid I went to High School (long haired hippy freak) who played in a bluegrass band - he introduced me to it, and I've always enjoyed it!
9. Baptism. I AM baptized ... and if I weren't as a baby, I would be anyway! I'm thankful that I am... and I also really REALLY enjoy watching others be baptized. Babies or adults, full body dunk or just a few drops on the forehead.... it's just such a HAPPY experience! Sometimes I wish I could do it again!!! LOL!
10. Bikini. That which I would like to have the body for, though I can not imagine donning one at my age -- even if I DID ever achieve the body that COULD! I know lots of women do though... of course... lots of women DO... oh... never mind! (melli, if you can't say something nice, don't say ANYthing at all!)
11. Boats. *sigh* little ones, BIG ONES, sailing ones, rowing ones, pedaling ones, motor ones, cruising ones ... Yachts! Any ol' kind will do...
12. Balloons. Who DOESN'T like a balloon? They are festive and FUN! Balloons automatically mean PARTY!!! (which usually also means ... CAKE!)
13. Bible. The MOST important book in my collection!!! I had actually read the Bible cover to cover a couple of times back in my younger years. I didn't "get" it. I'm not sure I would "get it" yet if it weren't for my Bible Study groups! But thanks to them, I have learned so MUCH and I really DO "get it" -- and it's AWESOME!!! Of course, Pastor helps too -- he brings the Bible to life when he speaks... it really is just the BEST!!!
