Random Dozen

Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee

1. What is your favorite Mexican dish?
Oh boy... that's HARD! I LOVE Mexican! Probably Enchiladas Poblano - with lettuce, tomato, guacamole AND sour cream!

2. When you were a kid, did you get started on your homework right away after school, or did you procrastinate?
When I was a kid I rarely DID my homework... *sigh*

3. What is your favorite store for home furnishings?
I'm not really feeling a favorite coming to me... honestly it's usually a matter of going with my least non-favorite. Good QUALITY furniture is sO hard to find for a reasonable price anymore. My Son worked in a store that had GORGEOUS furniture - Arhaus - but every piece was special order and sO extremely high priced, none but the "Rich & Famous" could afford it! (okay - he sold to all the Yacht owners down in Annapolis!) My couches came from Hecht's - but that was about 12 years ago - and even THEIR quality has gone down since then! I really don't want to talk about furniture... it's very frustrating. I like NICE. Champagne taste and a beer budget - that's me. On the other hand, I tell myself I don't NEED the best -- Jesus never had the best...

4. When you were young, did you like school lunches?
Actually... YES! When I was VERY young! The elementary school I went to had my best friends GERMAN mother for their cook! And everything was cooked IN HOUSE. She made the BEST lunches in all the world! THEN I graduated to Jr. High... Ugh. It was such a let down to find out what REAL school lunches were all about!

5. Is religion a crutch?
Religion is frustrating and too often a source of contention. FAITH on the other hand is not a "crutch"... for me it is having the power of the Holy Spirit readily available to help me handle any situation that comes up in my life, whether I need strength or comfort or a great idea or a supernatural burst of energy. I don't feel it's a crutch... it's just relying on God the way He desires us to rely on Him... for EVERYTHING.

6. In your region, what is the "big" (most popular in the community or state) high school sport?
You know, since my kids have all graduated, I'm kind of outta-da-loop... but I THINK it's probably still a toss between soccer and lacrosse.

7. Do you consider yourself rich?
RICH in the Father's love! But financially? No... we're not rich. We're comfortable. And I'm very grateful that we are comfortable enough to be able to help others out on occasion! There was a time when I was the one who needed to BE helped! And I appreciated the ones who DID that too!

8. Which of these would you have the best chance for success in administering:
A) CPR
B) Heimlich Maneuver
C) Changing a flat tire

LOL! I have HAD CPR training ... in the past. I'm not completely without knowledge of how to do it. I have never actually been "trained" on the Heimlich... but I have been "shown" how to do it... But I HAVE changed tires before! So, providing the Lord would give me one of those superpower bursts of strength that would help me get the lug nuts off, changing a tire would probably be my best bet!

9. Which dance would you prefer to learn & why:
A) Salsa
B) Hip Hop
C) Waltz
D) Swing

I have actually been wanting to learn Salsa for several years now! THAT, too, would take some supernatural help -- I am clumsy and have two left feet - not to mention NO sense of rhythm - so the chances of me actually accomplishing this fete would be slim -- but OH how I would LOVE to! And why? It's just high energy and ... SASSY!

10. What's the worst news you've ever delivered to someone?
Telling my daughter that her Gammy had died... she was in Egypt and I couldn't even put my arms around her and comfort her. It was awful...

11. Name something you learned in college that had nothing to do with classes or academics.
LOL! Well, since I didn't attend college... I learned NOTHING!

12. New variation on an old question: If there's a song in your head that just won't get out, what is your favorite (or most repeated) line in that song?
Hm. This is one of the few times that I do NOT have a song stuck in my head at the moment. Imagine that.

Random Dozen ... It's Back too!

Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee

1. When was the last time you laughed until you cried? It's been awhile! I really don't remember... now that's sad...

2. If you found $10 today, what would you do with it?
I refuse to take the i have no idea route here... I will think of sOMething to do with it! OH! I (feel) I owe a couple of the women up at church a Starbucks, so I would make good on that!

3. Do you volunteer anywhere?

Yes indeed. There has rarely been a time in my life when I have NOT volunteered somewhere. Right now it's all at church. I usher, I lector, and I'm a Sunday School teacher. I get involved in other things throughout the year - but these are the steady things I do.

4. What is your favorite summertime veggie or fruit, and how do you eat it?

Fruit - BLUEBERRIES! - And I love them in my oatmeal, by themselves, OR with Dannon Fit & Light vanilla yogurt on top! Veggie - Zucchini Squash - I like it raw, sliced and dipped in ranch dressing... or added to my salad!

5. Is your social sphere (circle of friends) small, medium or large?

Very very very VERY VERRRRRRRRRY small.

6. When was the last time you attended a family or school reunion? How did that go?

Oh dear ... you HAD to bring that up! Well, MY family never has reunions, and my graduating class has never had a reunion (because the treasurers absconded with the money)... so the last one would be Dennis's family reunion - which they hold EVERY year - and we attended oh, I guess it's been 7 or 8 years ago now. Once was enough for me! It was pretty much enough for him too...

7. When you're feeling blue, what is the best way someone can cheer you up?
Depends what I am feeling blue about. Mostly I just need time alone with God. He always cheers me up! (However... right NOW I'm feeling BLUE - and it's the cheeriest shade of blue EVER!)

8. Have you taken a vacation this summer?
I have NOT... and I am FEELING it! I NEED a get-away! Something soon!

9. What is the most unnecessary item you carry with you all the time?
Oh there's probably some furry breathmints in the bottom of my purse!

10. What is the best summer flick you have seen so far?
I haven't seen even ONE... thus no best!

11. Describe a perfect summer day.

Sunny blue skies, 80-85 degrees, low humidity, On the BEACH!

12. Please share a favorite photo from the summer so far!

So anyway... in case you haven't heard yet...
(The new grandbaby, that is!)

Random Dozen (South Lakes Version)

GUEST Hosted by:
South Lakes Mom

this week!

Thank you Kelly!

1. What is your favorite sign of Spring?

Oh boy... that's HARD! I LOVE to see the first bits of green showing up... but I ALSO LOVE to hear the birds start to sing! I don't think I can choose...

2. Did you remember to spring forward on March 14? If not, how did it impact your day?
Yep! I LOVE springing forward! It's falling back that I'm not too crazy about... But when the days get longer and there is more daylight! Ohhhhhhhhh BOY! SUMMER's COMING!!!

3. If soil, time, talent and climate were no problem, what vegetable would you plant in a garden this year?
ALL of 'em! No... I can choose! Asparagus! That is my absolute favorite veggie - and it is likewise MOST of my family's favorite as well! Fortunately for ME, we have a farmer who sells it out on the side of the road almost allllllllllll summer long! CHEAP! I love that man!

4. If soil, time, talent and climate were no problem, what fruit would you plant?

We're actually talking about planting blueberry bushes! I had thought about it - and even mentioned it 20 years ago. NOW we are wishing we had done it THEN! But I would also greatly love to have a POMEGRANATE tree! (or two)

5. What is your least favorite insect?

Oh. Again... it's a toss up! Between gnats and mosquitoes. You know, where I grew up they SPRAYED and we didn't HAVE mosquitoes! And it was in the SAME STATE I'm in now! I do not understand why my county will NOT spray! They're AWFUL! And those biting flies are bad too - but they're only around for 3 or 4 weeks and then they're gone!

6. March 22 was World Water Day. To celebrate, here are some water questions. Do you drink bottled water? If so, what brand?

I do. We have well water and frankly, I don't TRUST it! It is VERY VERY hard! When I see what it does to my plumbing... I wonder what it does to MY plumbing! I usually drink Aquafina or Deer Park. I'm not picky... and I don't even CARE if it's just tap water -- as long as it's not MY tap water! LOL!

7. Have you ever been somewhere that it was not safe to drink the local water? If so, how did you handle that?

I have not.

8. How many glasses of water do you drink per day?

I TRY to drink at least 8 glasses -- 64 oz. a day. I was doing really well with that for a good while -- lately I'm having trouble getting started early enough!

9. March 24 is the birthday of
Harry Houdini. Have you ever watched a professional magic show? Share.
Professional how? Like David Copperfield? David Blaine? Or like the guy who comes to the kids school? I have never seen a big name magic show live -- but I've seen impressive magic! I love to be tricked like that! We went to a Cirque du Soleil show once that featured magic. THAT was GREAT!

10. Have you ever been a participant in a professional magic show (up on stage!)?
Nope.

11. March 24 is also the birthday of
Steve McQueen and Clyde Barrow. Do you like Westerns or gangster movies? If so, what is your favorite?
I do NOT like gangster movies - but with that said, I did LOVE Bonnie & Clyde! I think I saw that one 3 or 4 times when I was a teenager. I love John Wayne movies, and Clint Eastwood westerns too! I was never a big Steve McQueen fan though... and truth be told, I really prefer James Bond over all of them! (do any James Bond's have a birthday?)

12. (Really random) What U.S. state that you've never visited would you like to visit someday?

ALL OF THEM! I really really want to see Mount Rushmore (South Dakota) and the Grand Tetons (Wyoming) ... and I also want to see the Grand Canyon (Arizona) ... But I'd also like to head north even here on the east coast -- I've never been further north than New York and I would LOVE to see Niagara Falls... and eat lobster in Maine! I'm thinking at least ONE of these things IS going to happen THIS summer!!! I know for darn sure I'm not just sittin' around this house all summer!

Ohhhhhh! And about my necklace? From yesterday! YOU GUYS made me soooooo happy! MOST of you saw what I saw or something similar! So I'm NOT crazy! I saw black birds! Or black swans! Some of you saw ducks -- that's cool too! I immediately said I saw BIRDS in that necklace, and the ARTIST thought I was nuts... but after I pointed them out to her, she saw them too. But all her little artist friends, and my own Krysti all thought I was nuts! They all saw an "S"... oh big deal! ANYone can see an "S"... Some said a snake! Well, yea... an "S" and a snake look pretty similar... but I am just SO happy that a bunch of you saw birds or ducks or swans! I LOVE you guys! See? THIS is why we're friends! We SEE things alike! LOL!

Random Dozen... Blarney and all...

Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee

1. On a scale of 1-10, how superstitious are you, honestly?

ZerO.

2. Julius Caesar is quoted as saying, "I came, I saw, I conquered." Which circumstance or experience of yours does this saying best describe?
Fleas? Last Fall...?

3. If I peeked in on your day like a mischievous little leprechaun, at what time would I most likely find you blogging?
Used to be almost ANY time... but lately... better try sometime around 1:00 pm or later...

4. Re springing forward for Daylight Saving Time, is there anything you've ever been really early or really late for?
I'm habitually realllllly early! Drives my kids NUTSO!

5. What are you most looking forward to concerning Spring?
SHORTS!!!

6. Shamrocks are the national flower of Ireland and are picked on St. Patrick's Day and worn on the lapel or shoulder. Do you wear green on St. Patty's Day?
Absolutely! If not I'd spend the whole day getting PINCHED!

7. One of Caesar's assassins, Casca, said, "But, for my own part, it was Greek to me," which of course means he didn't understand something. Probably his own lines in the play. Anyway, what is something that is "Greek to you," something incomprehensible or indecipherable?
Any foreign language...

8. Is March behaving more like a lion or a lamb where you live?
Fortunately it is behaving rather lambish... not always so... but this year it is! I think it was well threatened that it BETTER! February was BEASTLY enough!

9. "An extra yawn one morning in the springtime, an extra snooze one night in the autumn is all that we ask in return for dazzling gifts. We borrow an hour one night in April; we pay it back with golden interest five months later." -Winston Churchill. If you had one extra hour per day every day, what would you do with it?
Well, I don't think I would commit it to any certain thing for EVERY day! I would add it where needed or desired as the days arrived! Some days I might sleep it away, other days I might get a little extra Bible study done. And some days it might be used to spend more time outside playing! Who knows???

10. Legend says that every Leprechaun has a pot of gold hidden deep in the Irish countryside. Aside from real gold or money, what material item would be in your dream pot of gold?
Other than that cul-de-sac I want, with 5 houses, I really can't think of a material thing I want or need.

11. "The best things are nearest: breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of God just before you." Robert Louis Stevenson. Look around you right now and tell us about something essential or beautiful very near you that you take for granted every day.
My computer. I take it for granted every day - right up until the minute it crashes and I don't have it anymore! Then I say... Ohhhhhh WHY didn't I back everything up?!!

12. Just for a bit o' fun, click here (www.blogthings.com/irishnamegenerator/) and then report your Irish name. Mine is "Zoe O'Sullivan." I love it!
It says I am Siobhan Clarke. eh. I think I'll stick with Mary Clare! (never thought I'd say THAT!!!)

Random Dozen... PLINK!

Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee

1. How old is the oldest pair of shoes in your closet?
YOWL! Probably 20 years...

2. Did you buy Girl Scout cookies this year? If so, what variety?

I have not bought Girl Scout cookies in at least 15 years! They are the most overpriced calories on the market! I would rather just give the girls a donation and they can sell the cookies to someone else!

3. Do you know how to ballroom dance? If not, would you like to?

I do not, and I would LOVE to!

4. Were you a responsible child/teenager?
Actually, I was... but not in the ways that most adults thought I should be.

5. How many of this year's Oscar-nominated movies did you see?
Not a single one. Nor did I see any that were NOT nominated!

6. If you're going to have a medical procedure done, such as having blood drawn, is it easier for you to watch someone else having the procedure done or have it done yourself?
If it's a simple as blood drawn, I can handle that with no prob. There are OTHER procedures I'm not so cool with!

7. What is your favorite day of the week and why?

Sunday - church!

8. Do you miss anyone right now?

I miss Dr. John's blog posts horribly. Especially... every day. And I miss his end of the day comment. He always saved my blog for last. :(

9. Do hospitals make you queasy?

Not at all.

10. At which store would you like to max-out your credit card. Not that you ever would, you responsible person, you.

Home Depot.

11. Are you true to the brand names of products/items?

No... how could I be? Most of them are not true to me! They change themselves all the time. You no sooner decide THIS is the perfect one for you, than it is no longer available! Pft!

12. Which is more difficult: looking into someone’s eyes when you are telling someone how you feel, or looking into someone’s eyes when he/she is telling you how he/she feels?

Much harder for me when they are telling me how THEY feel!

Random Dozen... #26

Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee

1. Do you prefer even or odd numbers? Any particular reason?
My favorite numbers have always been 7 and multiples of 7... and I have NO idea why! They just make me happy!

2. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being "not at all" and 10 being Carly Simon-worthy, how vain are you?
ROFLMBO! Ohhhhhh my goodness. I guess we all have a wee little bit of vanity in us... but mine is phenomenally low! If 1 is "not at all"... I guess I would have to be a 2.

3. Among these Irish stereotypes, with which do you identify most closely? Talkative, Proud, Inquisitive, Love to party, Hot-tempered?
Those are Irish stereotypes??? In my younger days I would say being hot-tempered. But that could hardly be true anymore. I don't think ANY of these really describe me. I have talkative moments... but I am really more quiet than talkative. Depends who I'm with.

4. How lucky do you consider yourself?
I consider myself INCREDIBLY blessed! I doubt "luck" has anything to do with it at all.

5. What is the subject of your favorite post that you've written?
Do you know that this is my 1,565th post? And you would like me to pick a favorite? I'm sure it was about FAITH in one way or another. But I'm not searching to pick a favorite!

6. Describe March weather where you live in three words.
Fickle... foul... or fun!

7. How apt are you at detecting blarney when you hear it? (Smooth talk, flattery)
VERY! I raised the KING of Blarney!... not intentionally! But he IS who he IS!

8. How "green" are you, environmentally speaking?
I reallllllllly need to work on this. I am NOT a good steward of our earth's resources.

9. What is your favorite song this week?
Worthy, You Are Worthy... we sang that on Sunday and it's been in my head all week!

10. You are walking along and see a coin on the ground. What denomination does it have to be before you will stop to pick it up?
FUNNY you should ask that! I don't pick coins up -- I do intentionally drop them! LOL! But I have a friend who picks up EVERY coin she sees and puts them in her pocket and adds them to the offering at church on Sunday. I prefer to leave them for someone who needs them or for a child to pick up.

11. Complete the sentence: "Every time I look outside my window ...."
"... lately, I pray for SPRING!"

12. What was the #1 song on the day you were born? See this site to find out.
Oh! This site says it was Diana, by Paul Anka. One of those little birthday booklets I got says it was Blue Velvet, by Bobby Vinton. Then this site says it was Tammy, by Debbie Reynolds. Billboard agrees it was Tammy. How weird! I never realized this was a HARD question! LOL!

Random Dozen #25

Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee

1. Have you ever fired a gun or shot a bow and arrow?
I have actually done both! I've never fired a pistol. But Dennis taught me to fire a shotgun one autumn when we were up on his uncles property. And we had archery classes in Junior High and High School -- so I've shot lots of arrows!

2. Do you know where your childhood best friends are?
I don't even know where my CURRENT best friends are! No... I have never been a keeper upper. I know a lot of people are very "clingy" to friendships... but I have always assumed that God sends people into my life for "a while" for a reason, and then we move on.

3. Do you usually arrive early, late, or on time?
BM (before Mom) I was always an early arriver! I can not stand being late to anything! Most especially WORK! This was drilled into me well in high school business class... I took it to heart, and I found it to be the ONE thing that employers REALLY appreciated! It was mentioned at my yearly reviews on many occasions how MUCH that was appreciated. And at Drs. offices I always show up early because I don't want them to have the chance to say "we called your name, but you weren't here - sorry - you missed your appointment! That will be $30 please."

4. Are you more of a New York or California type?
Neither really. I'm more of a French Riviera type!

5. Do you have a special ring tone?
Yes. Several. A different one for each family member ... and then a favorite for when anybody else calls. I don't hear that one too often! LOL!

6. What is your favorite type of chip?
Frito's are my favorite -- original flavor. But I hardly ever eat a chip.

7. Best comedy you've ever seen is .... Menopause, The Musical! I have NEVER laughed harder!

8. Have you ever cut your own hair? To quote Dr. Phil, "How'd that work for ya?"
LOL! I do it all the time! I have such curly hair that if my bangs need trimming, or it starts getting a little heavy on top, I can just snip snip snip and I'm good to go! I only get my hair "cut" about every 4-6 months!
9. If you were going to have an extreme makeover, would you rather it be about your house or your personal self?
NOBODY is touching my house! I do my own make-overs! Thank you! If they want to pay for it, that would be nice! And I really don't want a personal make-over either. I know I could USE one - I'm a very "dowdy" dresser.... but ya know what? I just don't really care! As a matter of fact, I would like to live where I could just wear shorts, t-shirts, and flip flops ALL YEAR ROUND! (but from what I hear, Hawaii is NOT the place for me... see? French Riviera! Or Texas! SOUTH Texas!)

10. Are you allergic to anything? Codeine.

11. Why is it so hard to change?
I don't know. Lack of prayer? Not truly desiring the change? I've changed so much in the last few years I hardly recognize my old self... but there are some things that God just has not gotten to yet, or that I am too stubborn to give up! We were JUST talking about that this morning! But... He's not DONE with me yet! YAY!

12. One last question dedicated to February love: CS Lewis said, "To love is to be vulnerable." Please share one example of that assertion or share any thought you'd like to about this topic.
That's an easy one! To love IS to be vulnerable. When you open your heart to LOVE, you also open it to pain. The people you love don't always love back, don't always love "your way"... or... they go home to Jesus and leave you. If you don't LOVE someone, you don't CARE what they do and it doesn't affect you emotionally. But when you do love ... everything they do affects you. And it doesn't always affect you good or happy. We raise our children to be independent people... and then when they go off and live a life independent of us, it breaks our hearts! We raise them to think for themselves, and then when they DO it and make choices that are not OURS, it breaks our hearts! And I'm not even going to get into all the "couples" challenges... but yes... when you open your heart to love, you also open it to pain. And SOME of that pain is meant to be a "growing" experience for US!

Linda, these were really GREAT questions this week! I can't wait to go read other's answers! Thank you!

Random Dozen #24 ( WOW! 2 dozen Dozens! )

Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee

1. If you could compete in one Olympic event (not necessarily winter sports) what would it be? Well... it wouldn't be pretty - but I think if I could TRY any of them... winter it would be downhill skiing! Summer - diving!

2. Do remember a specific Olympic moment from the past? Sadly... I don't think I'll EVER forget Nancy Kerrigan being attacked, and the whole incorrigible episode that came from it - or caused it! But on a happier note, I will also never forget Nadia Comaneci's perfect 10 on the uneven parallel bars!

3. Have you ever known anyone who competed in the Olympics? Yes! As a matter of fact I have! But I did not know him WHEN he competed - and it's too bad, because that would have been SO exciting! But my eldest daughter's first weight trainer had competed in bobsled competition ... and I THINK it was the 4 man sleds. Yes, it was.

4. If everyday activities were Olympic-worthy, which activity would you have a gold medal in? Oh good grief! I can't think of a single thing! I can't even claim blogging after having taken almost a week off from it! Perhaps EATING! I'm pretty darned good at that!

5. Do you know anything about your ethnic heritage? Yea... I'm Irish.

6. Do you enjoy sleeping late? My body enjoys it... my head HATES it! I feel like half my day is GONE. I like to get up around 7:00. But my BODY likes to get around 9:00!

7. Have you ever performed CPR on anyone? Do you know how? (Yes, that's two, I know. Whatevs.) I have been trained in CPR and infant CPR - but that was many many MANY moons ago and I am not CPR certified at this time. So... is that a yes or a no?

8. Name one country you'd like to visit and explain why. I would like to visit Spain to see it's beauty and visit Mar. I would like to visit Belgium to see IT's beauty and visit Gattina. I would like to visit Egypt to see it's beauty. And I would like to visit Israel to see Jerusalem and experience that whoooooooole religious thing! Hm.... that's more than one, huh? And I forgot Paraguay and Betty... I wanna go there too...

9. Have you ever fixed up a couple romantically? Nope... can't say that I have! Don't think I'd want to claim responsibility even if I did!

10. What is the last book you read? Aargh... I am currently reading two... but the last one I finished was Primal: A Quest For The Lost Soul of Christianity. (EXCELLENT book!)

11. Do you enjoy sleeping late? NO, YOU write the question! How's that for random?? Okay then... MY question is... what is your favorite Old Testament Bible story? Why? I have so many it's hard to choose just one - but I think I'm going to go with the entire story of Joseph. When I think of the ways he was tested, but that he never took his eyes off the Lord... his faith was sooooo strong and he just knew that no matter what happened God was with him and good would come from it. He was truly a "positive thinker"! At least that's the one that's my favorite TODAY!

12. What is your favorite meal at your favorite restaurant? ROFL! MY favorite meal is not AT my favorite restaurant!!! How's THAT for an answer??? My favorite MEAL is a specialty burger at Hamburger Hamlet. But we don't have one near us and I almost never go there, so there! And that is probably the ONLY reason it's my favorite meal! But my favorite restaurant ... is a hard choice. We have a lot of good ones. For ME a favorite restaurant is not as much about the food as it is about the ambiance. I like my restaurants "on the water". And then I like a seat by the window - OR... oh yes! My favorite restaurant is Stoney's in Broomes Island - I like to eat out on the floating dock, and my favorite meal there is probably the seafood platter! Although Stoney's makes THE BEST crab cakes in THE entire world - trust me on this one - I live in Maryland and I KNOW my crab cakes -- my seafood pallet can not be satisfied with only ONE type of seafood. Therefore, it takes the entire platter to satisfy me! If I order just one thing I spend the entire meal saying "mmm this is good, but I wish I had gotten that, that and that too!" And now you know why I don't go out to eat when I'm dieting!

Random Dozen #23

Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee

FINALLY! A post that doesn't include SNOW!!!

1. Are you pleasant when you're ill, or are you a grumpy, fussy patient?

I don't know if "pleasant" exactly describes it. I'm not a witch! Usually I'm just asleep. Leave me alone and I'll be fine when I feel fine. But when I've had to be hospitalized for surgery... the nurses LOVE me. I really GET how much they have to listen to people whine, so I go out of my way NOT to whine and to be as self sufficient as I can possibly be.

2. When you find out that school is canceled (due to inclement weather) what is your gut reaction?
It has always be YAY! When I was a student, when I was a Mom, when I was a teacher, and now that I'm a Nana!

3. What is one domestic skill you wish you could improve?

Ohhhhhh boy... all of them! I used to be SO domestic... and the older I get the less domestic I am. I wish I really ENJOYED cleaning my house. I know some women who DO!

4. Do you decorate your home for Valentine's Day?
NO!

5. What song is on your mind today?
Actually... none.

6. Do you prefer contemporary movies or classic?

Classic. That doesn't mean I want to sit down and watch one. It just means that if I'm bedbound and can't use my laptop that I would PREFER a classic movie to something new.

7. How well do you "compartmentalize" your feelings? For example, how well can you put aside a really trying moment to deal with the immediate situation which is not related to the trying moment, e.g., putting aside a tiff with your spouse in order to finish wallpapering a room.

It really depends on the urgency of the something else. AND the intensity of my feelings. Sometimes I can do that easily... other times... not so much. Of course, it's much EASIER to put aside gleeful, joyful, happy feelings than it is to put aside anger, frustration or sorrow.

8. What is the first thing that attracted you to your spouse? (Or if you're single, to your best friend.)

Hm. I'm not really sure. Dennis was my foreman first, and over the months became a very good friend. He was easy to talk to and knew a LOT about the trade I was trying to learn, so he was a great helpmate. Our "relationship" just sort of grew out of that. So, I'm not really SURE what attracted me first. He was CUTE. But it wasn't that. I think it was probably just the fact that we clicked as friends.

9. When was the last time your heart raced?
Probably the day my daughter called to tell me our son had been in an accident and totaled his car. That was a few years ago. We were on our way home from dropping his twin off at college.

10. What are your memories of Valentine's Day at school?

Little heart covered shoe boxes with a slot in the top, and candy message hearts.

11. If you were going to receive candy for Valentine's Day, which would you prefer?

I do like Whitman's Sampler! But I really love Lindt chocolates... especially the truffles!

12. Red or pink? Red.

Random Dozen #22

Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee

1. Do you use the labels various charities send you as “free gifts?”

Usually I do not. Mainly because they send them in my husbands name... and HE doesn't use them, because he has snazzy labels I got him for Christmas 2 years ago that have a picture of his motorcycle on them! I'm pretty sure it was a lifetime supply! Occasionally I do use the ones that Christmas Seals sends - because they're Christmasy.

2. What is your favorite time of day (or night) for skywatching?

ANYtime God takes a fancy to painting it in some fascinating manor!

3. What is the most adventurous you've ever been with trying a new food? (Keep it G-rated please)

I dunno... I've tried dried squid, and calamari, and I don't care for either. But I eat oysters and think nothing of it. There is very little seafood I won't eat -- but I won't eat sushi because I'm NOT doing raw fish. I will eat vegetarian sushi... got no problems with that! I don't think I'm unadventurous... I think I just haven't had that many opportunities. Usually if I see something unusual on a menu, I want to give it a try!

4. Have you ever heard a rock sing? (Trust me, there's a reason for this one!)
Nope! But I've heard a rock song!

5. If you could learn a language you don't presently speak, what would it be?
I'm told I don't NEED to learn any other language because all the other country's speak MY language!

6. Al Capone's tombstone read, “My Jesus, Mercy.” If you could write your own epitaph, what would it say?

I have NO idea... I don't plan to have an epitaph. I plan to be cremated and scattered. No marker required. When Jesus returns, He will know where to find me!

7. If you were a famous musician who was known by one name, like “Cher,” “Sting,” or “Jewel,” what would it be? It doesn’t have to be your first name, but it can be, if you’d like.

Well, of course it would be Melli ! This really should be known! There MAY be others - but NONE like ME!

8. Have you ever been inordinately “into” a television show?

No... I don't think I was. I mean, when I was a KID I had shows that I thought I would DIE if I missed... like
Here Come The Brides, with Bobby Sherman! But that was pretty much "normal" for my age and gender. And since I hit about 16 I have never watched "a lot" of tv. And now? None.

9. When you sneeze, do you go big, or do you do that weird “heenh!” sound that makes people think you’re going to blow your brains out? Any other variation we should know about?

I am an AAA-AAA-AAAAACHOOOOO girl! And sometimes I get a spell and go on for about 40 or 50 sneezes! It's really annoying. My mother used to do it too...

10. Do you still read an actual newspaper that you hold in your hands, or do you get your news elsewhere?

We still GET an actual newspaper... but it is really RARE for me to pick it up and read it! I usually just check the headline news on-line a couple times a day to make sure there is nothing MAJOR happening around the world. I do like to 'know' - but I definitely do NOT want to listen to reporters drone on and on about views and opinions and give absolutely no new news at all.

11. Are you a good speller?

Yes... I am good. I'm not perfect! And especially while blogging I am just as likely as the next guy or gal to mix up my their, they're, theres! However, I don't think I EVER mess up on then and than! But if I don't feel sure of a word, I'll google it to make sure it's right. The problems arise when I DO feel sure - and I'm wrong! LOL!

12. At what time each day do you start thinking about Lost lunch?
About Lost lunch? I don't ever think about Lost lunch! I always know where my lunch is! It usually gets a passing thought around 11:45... one of those I should do something about it soon thoughts ... and it usually actually gets DONE somewhere between 1:00 and 2:00! It's really unusual for us to have lunch at noon time!

Never ending snow
Pretty winter wonderland?
Yea, but... please send rain!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some of you asked yesterday WHO was watching MOM while I was sleeping IN until 10:30?! The answer to that is exactly what you expect! NOBODY was watching mom! And that is the MAIN reason why I hate when that happens! But fortunately God was watching - and nothing happened. I NEED to be up before she gets up - and usually I am!
In OTHER news... we're in snow again today. And MORE expected this weekend! This is being quite a winter, I'll tell ya! It has been forever and forever since Southern Maryland has had a winter like this! As a matter of fact... I think this is the FIRST winter like this we've had in the 23 years we've lived here!!!
1. How good are you at delaying gratification?
I'm getting better... but honestly? I'm not very good! Once I decide I want something, I pretty much want it NOW! Sometimes I want it ... yesterday.
2. Maybe a marshmallow wouldn't be too difficult a temptation for you. What food (or anything else) would be most tempting?
Chocolate cake with vanilla icing is about the MOST tempting thing you can put in front of me.
But Cheese of ANY variety is a close 2nd.
3. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being saintly) how patient are you?
Oh this definitely depends upon who I have to be patient with and what I have to be patient about! There is just no one size fits all answer to this question! Sitting in a restaurant with the whole family waiting for our order to come, I could wait an hour with no problem ... sitting alone with Mom in the same restaurant I need that food delivered in 5 minutes! Sitting in an airport waiting for a plane to Jamaica, I'd be climbing the walls!!! LOL! I really run a range from about 2-8! I would never give myself a 10... EVER.
4. Have you ever waited for something in life only to be disappointed upon realization of the goal/object/etc.?
Many times actually. Usually the anticipation of an event is so much greater than the actual event, that it is often a let down! I have a FABULOUS imagination and it runs wild when I'm waiting for something good! And I never actually LEARN that in my heart. I know it in my head... but my heart still says that every event is going to be "perfect".
5. Are you a person who takes shortcuts?
Certainly! Why wouldn't I?
6. Which line is hardest to wait in?
The line for the ladies room! I've had 4 children you know... and I'm over 50!
7. Did you wait to discover the gender of your unborn child until its birth?
Always! I never wanted to know. I still don't want to know when someone is pregnant! There are so FEW true surprises in this life.... that is one that I just LOVE!
8. Are you more patient with children or the elderly?
FAR more patient with children.
9. Did you ever sneak a peek at a present?
When I was a child I always went peeking! I knew everything I was getting for Christmas a month before I got it! No surprises! I found out I didn't like that by about my 13th year. Then I quit looking. Now I don't want to EVER know what's in it until I open it!
10. What is the longest you've ever waited for anything?
I waited 50 years for a grandbaby! And she was worth every minute! Due to my daughter's scaevity I might wait another 50 years for my next one! But I hope not!
11. Who has more patience, you or your significant other?
In view of anticipation, he has waaaaay more patience than I have. In view of temper... I have more patience than he has. He has no passion. He doesn't get excited about anything. We've been married for over 23 years and I have never seen him get EXCITED about anything. It just doesn't happen.
12. Which of the following songs about waiting is your pick for the best? (OK, you may substitute another, if you like.)
A) Anticipation by Carly Simon
B) The Waiting by Tom Petty
C) Right Here Waiting for You by Richard Marx
D) Wait for Me by Rebecca St. James
I can't think of any others off the top of my head... so I guess I'll go with Richard Marx, Right Here Waiting For You.
Random Dozen #20
Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee
1. So I was thinking about how Jon Bon Jovi never seems to age much. His hair is smaller nowadays, but he still manages to look like a boy somehow. And then that made me think of the story of Dorian Gray. Question: If you physically lock in one age for yourself, which would you choose and why?
Mmmm... that's hard. Just physically? I would choose when I was about 22! I was young and thin... But the last 30 years have taught me SO much that I wouldn't want to give up that knowledge! Can I go ahead in time to lock in? Give me a year or 18 months to lose some weight - and then I think I could maybe accept locking in. But honestly? I don't want to lock in! I LIKE change!
2. What is the best dish that you cook or bake (your piece de resistance?)
I really don't have a "best dish". My whole family sure was happy with last night's meatloaf though! It's gotten to the point where I have to cook TWO of them! And NO leftovers!
3. When you feel blue, what is one strategy you use to help yourself back to normal? Prayer... or read the Bible... or some devotions... something uplifting.
4. When was the last time you danced in public?
Hm. Dennis and I danced at one of his office Christmas parties about 10 years ago maybe. Might have been 15. Other than that, I boogie when I go to a concert! Dance with Luz if we're out where there's a band...
5. Do you consider yourself a realist or dreamer? Mostly I'm a realist... but occasionally I do get hung up dreaming. I think everyone dreams from time to time. I'm sort of like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.... I have a dream...
6. As a parent, what is one thing that you have done well?
LOVE my children. I think I'll leave it at that...
7. Which is your favorite character on the Andy Griffith show? LOL! Opie! Especially when he was reaaaaalllllly little! He was just the cutest little boy! And when Amanda was about 6 or 7, people used to say she looked just like him -- and she did! She LIKED that because she always wanted to BE a boy!
8. On a scale of 1-10, how much do you know about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? On a scale of 1-10, sadly I would probably only give myself about a 3. I really ought to pick up one of his many biographies and learn a little more... I know he was interesting! So was Coretta Scott King.
9. Have you never been mellow? Have you never tried … to find a comfort from in side you? (Sorry, Jorge was singing that song just now, and it just seemed to be perfect timing as I was creating this week’s questions.) REAL question: What is your #1 driving pet peeve? Boy, I'm gonna get the DUNCE award today for sure! I'm sitting here wondering is she talking about "driving"... am I supposed to talk about tailgaters, or road hogs? Or am I supposed to talk about a pet peeve that is a driving force in my life? Can I just answer the MELLOW question???
10. Which color best represents your mood today? Care to elaborate? This morning I would have said orange -- that is the bright and beautiful color that usually defines me in all ways - physically and emotionally! But by 10:30 pm.... I'm probably soft yellow. Feeling a little mellow...
11. If your spouse were an animal, which would he/she be? He would be a cat! Some days maybe even a BIG CAT! A lion... but often times just a cat. Going out in the morning to stalk things and bring home the dead mouse for me to see. Then curl up in the easy chair to rest and watch tv while I cook it for him! :) And honestly? He can fall asleep ANYwhere! Yes... a cat!
12. What activity takes up the bulk of your time on an average day? Well BLOGGING of course! LOL! No... lately it's diet and exercise! Or it might be Bible studies! Dear me... dear me... Is this REALLY what my life has become??? Well, I could say housework... but that'd just be an out and out lie! Errands! I do a lot of driving! No, without a doubt I am on the computer more often than I'm not... but that includes blogging, bible studies, tracking my diet, email, and even a game or two! This is pitiful... just pitiful...
Random Dozen #19
Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee
1. When was the last time you craved a food--what was it, and did you cave?
Monday night at Bible study someone brought a CAKE! I did not cave but only because Jesus changed the words as they were coming out of my mouth! It was a MAJOR miracle I tell ya!
2. M & M's or Skittles? No question here! M&Ms!
3. Have you ever read the Bible completely through?
Only once. The first time I ever read it. I thought it was SUPPOSED to be read that way - a story... I was so confused... I got almost nothing out of it! I was young... I DO want to read it all, but I want to do it so that I get a GOOD understanding and come away with something of what God wants me to know from it!
4. How long does it take you to really wake up in the morning?
This one really depends on how fast I NEED to wake up. Some mornings I wake up and am on top of my game from the minute my feet hit the floor. That is NOT my preferred way to wake up... but it happens. MOST mornings I allow myself that drowsy time to leisurely sip my coffee and not think too hard until the 2nd cup!
5. Have you ever been on a cruise? If not, would you like to?
I have not, and I would LOVE to. I do have some concerns about ship cabins though... I am very claustrophobic...
6. Who is your favorite actress?
Mary Poppins! Okay - Julie Andrews!
7. Greed is something that I will just never understand.
8. How much of a technology junkie are you?
Well, I love my computer - but I can't fix it if it breaks. I love my camera - but I don't use HALF of it's capabilities. I love my cell phone - but it is JUST a cell phone. I don't NEED to be able to access the internet from my phone. IT has a camera because I don't think they make them without cameras anymore... but I almost never use it because... I HAVE a camera! Aside from those 3 things, I can't really think of any other high-tech or latest tech items that I have. My stove still has spiral burners and does not clean itself! And my dishwasher only BARELY cleans the dishes! It cleans them if I wash them first! LOL! Hubby loves his tv - but we don't have a game system in our house! And if Luz wants to watch a DVD I have to put it in my computer because I don't know how to make the TV do the DVD thing! I'm thinkin' I'm NOT a tech junkie!
9. Do you enjoy selecting greeting cards for people, or is it more of a cultural "have to" for you?
Depends. MOST people I love buying cards for, but I've really gotten out of the "habit" of it. I used to send cards for NO reason more than for ANY reason. There are a few dates during the year where cards are expected that I have at times found positively painful.
10. When was the last time you got a new style/haircut?
Sunday! But it wasn't *new*... it was back to old! I LOVE it!
11. What do you enjoy shopping for most?
Furniture! Or home decorations.
12. What's the last thing you think of before you leave the house?
Oops! I need my glasses!
Random Dozen #18
Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee
1. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being a cranky-baby-hissy-fitter, how much of a complainer are you?
I don't think I'm much of a complainer. My family, I think, probably feels I am a bit more than I do ... because family would be the ones who would hear the bulk of my complaints. So I texted them to ask... Krysti said 4. Derek said 6. I expected the boys to say the higher numbers. But Mathew only rated me a 2!!! I think I'm probably about a 4. Amanda took hours and hours to think about it and contemplate things NONE of the rest of them ever would. This is the type of question that Amanda will just think and rethink and overthink and next week she will give me a revised answer! But today she said 5. Dennis also said 5 -- but first he wanted to clarify complaining "about what?"... and then if it was JUST complaining to HIM or complaining in general when he's not around!? ROFL!!! Of course I wouldn't give him ANY clarification except to repeat the question! So there you have it! The family has spoken! Now you are ALL welcome to tell me if you think I complain a lot or a little. Do I NEED a purple bracelet???
2. When someone else is talking, do you listen, or are you thinking about what you're going to say in response? How in the world would I know what I want to say in response if I don't listen first? Although... there are certain people that I share the ability to finish their sentences -- and they mine. Then our conversations go a bit faster! An observer might think we weren't listening to each other at all -- but we are!
3. I just deleted 1062 messages from my email account. Do you have any plans for a clean sweep this month--of anything? Today I'm doing a clean sweep of my Christmas decorations! (I answered these questions yesterday... the decorations are mostly gone now!)
And now, here are some brilliant questions from a gal named Angie at Angie's Ad Lib who graciously offered to let me borrow her brain. Please go over and see Angie because it was so nice of her to help me out. Thank you so much, Angie!
4. Tell us about your perfume. Was it a gift? What does it remind you of? Do you have a signature scent? Most of the time I don't wear perfume at all. I use Shower to Shower body powder... but too many people are allergic to strong scents and find them offensive. I don't feel a need to wear them. On very rare occasions I will wear either Red Door or another one I can't remember the name of right now! LOL! It's aqua blue!
5. What is your best organizing tip for the new year? To read the tips of other people who are actually organized... cuz it's not ME for sure!
6. What is your favorite comic strip?
Ummmm... I haven't read the comics in a loooooong time... but I would say either Baby Blues or Zits. Classic comics would be Peanuts...
7. Do you sleep with a fluffy or flat pillow? 2 Fluffy's - but often times my head isn't on either one of them! When I sleep on my back I prefer no pillow.
8. What color is your kitchen? Why did you choose that color? Birght bright BRIGHT yellow! I chose it because my theme is the beach! See? It's verrrrrrrrry cheerful! Just like walkin' into a SUNNY DAY!!!
9. What’s the most interesting bumper sticker you’ve seen? I don't remember. Things like that provide a momentary giggle and then they're gone... do people really REMEMBER them?
10. Do you prefer an expensive writing tool or whatever is lying around? (Are you a Montblanc or a Papermate?) I LIKE a nice writing pen - but I'll use whatever is there. They all disappear no matter what kind they are or how much you paid for them!
11. What chore doesn’t feel like a chore – you just enjoy it (at least most of the time)? Wow... a chore I don't mind... ??? Feeding the birds! As long as it's not during a "wind advisory" in 20 degrees. Or sweeping the front porch.
12. If your parents often repeated themselves, what is something one of them said more than once? MY parents did NOT do this. (until my mother got alzheimers - but then she repeated entire conversations word for word) But my husbands father NEVER. EVER. ONCE. left this house (or any house) without saying "It's time to get back up to Gobbler's Nob" and then "See ya in the funny papers!" ??? And Mom (my mil) says EVERY morning when she gets up - I say "good morning"... and she says "I guess it's still morning ha ha ha ha".... OY VEY! If I DON'T say good morning - then she says it and then follows it with her punch line! I can't even imagine what it was like to live in their house! I'd have left home at by the time I was 4! (is that complaining???) I'm just sayin'!
Random Dozen... This Year's Finally
Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee
1. Do you find it gross to share drinks with family? Friends?
I am a bit of a germophobe, so yea... I don't share drinks... or food.
2. What have you learned this year? (You didn't see a question of that weight coming, did you? At least not for #2.)
All of my lines for that silly skit I was in!! I'm certain I've learned other things too... I know I've learned a lot of Biblical history... and I've either learned or RE-learned some lessons... but I'd have to go look them up to post them again... and I'm not up for that right now. Even though I should be...
3. When do you dismantle the Christmas decorations?
I usually do it New Year's Day. I might leave ONE nativity until the 7th.
4. Something you wish to accomplish before the end of 2009 is:
I'd like to finish reading the book for my Sunday School class.
5. How do you feel about winter (after Christmas)?
The same as I feel about it before Christmas! It can go AWAY any time! I'm really not a winter person and since we have had 18 inches of snow now, I'm really ready for it to just be gone!
6. Have you participated in after-Christmas sales?
Not this year. Sometimes I do like to go get decorations for ridiculously cheap after Christmas... but this year, there was hardly anything left even BEFORE Christmas, so I didn't bother. I had to run into Peebles on Christmas Eve though and got a DARLING new nativity for 60% off! I have very few decorations that I ever paid full price for!
7. Do you have plans for New Year's Eve?
I do not. Amanda will want to party and bring it in big... I'm really just as happy to let it come while I'm sleeping!
8. Is there anything special awaiting you in January?
Not that I know of! But special things pop up with only a moments notice in my life! Every day is special in one way or another!
9. If your life this year was a movie, what category or genre would it be? (Romance, Comedy, Drama, Thriller, Suspense, Farcical, etc.) ANY year of my life would have to be a comedy - sometimes bordering on farcical! It may include a little of this and a little of that - but it's always comical no matter what!
10. How much time per day do you spend blogging? Please do not lie. I will know. LOL! I spend hours and hours and hours on the computer. I'm not always BLOGGING... but I spend several hours doing that too! The thing is, is that I only do that if I don't have something else TO DO. I would not turn down an invitation for lunch or a trip to a museum to stay home and blog! And I don't neglect going to the grocery store to stay home and blog. (I neglect going to the grocery store simply because I HATE going to the grocery store!) In other words, when I have something else that I either need or want to do, I do it! But my "me time" is spent on the computer - be it blogging, reading the news, playing games, email, etc...
11. Who runs your household?
Physically? I do. Financially? Hubby!
12. Share one hope/dream for 2010.
Only one? I have sO many! If only ONE, then the most important one is that my children and husband would come to KNOW Jesus and give their lives to Him and accept His gift of salvation.
Random Dozen #16
Hosted by:
Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee
*yes, I know I spelled Linda wrong... she does too!*
1. Gingerbread: For or against? Discuss.
REAL gingerbread? I am for for FOR! Gingerbread cookies? I can take them or leave them - but Luz loves them, therefore they ARE! I have a my grandmother's recipe for Gingersnaps - which don't snap at all -- if baked properly they are just a patty full of chewy goodness! So I guess, over all, I am FOR gingerbread!
2. Is it important to you to always stay (live) close to family?
It is important to me to "be there" when my children need me -- whether I am 2 miles, 20 miles, or 2000 miles away. Of course, the closer, the better. (as long as they don't live IN my house!) LOL! I have always said that "my dream" is to own a cul-de-sac with 5 houses. Mine in the middle and 2 kids on each side of me. Then we would all be as close as we need to be but still have our own space! And Luz could just wander in and amongst us all! (as would future grands!) That would just be the BEST!
3. Which holiday pretend character do you wish really existed?
I can't really think of ANY pretend character that I REALLY wish existed -- but I do really LIKE Frosty the Snowman! I would LOVE to see him swirl up in the first winter snow and say "Happy BIRTHDAY!" -- right on my front lawn!
4. Which holiday movie best represents how you feel about Christmas or life?
Well... either Miracle on 34th Street -- because I do SO believe in the Spirit of Santa Claus. I believe GOD is Santa Claus... I always have. I mean Jesus WAS BORN and thus Christmas happened! (He's not a fairy tale... read the history books...) And God has taken care of sooooooooo many Christmases for me and my family when no one else could, that I can't NOT believe! And when the movie ends and that little girl gets her HOUSE, I just KNOW God was the mastermind there! (But of course, that IS just a story - and Santa is credited.) But It's a Wonderful Life touches me deeply too. I've had times when I felt worthless and like my loved ones would be better off without me... but then there's God! He reaches down and pulls me up out of my depths, and shows me that I AM important. To Him if not to anyone else... But He also shows me I'm important to others too. (and THAT is REAL... I can feel it!)
5. Is there a particular Christmas song that you're enjoying now? Any that you're tired of?
If I never had to hear those stupid Chipmunks sing again I would be EVER so happy! My favorite Christmas songs have been my favorites for as long as I can remember. Away in a Manger, Angels We Have Heard on High, O Come O Come Emmanuel, I'll Be Home For Christmas, Frosty the Snowman (which is really just a winter song), Oh! The Little Drummer Boy! I LOVE it! And one I heard the other night but that we don't hear too often - Children Go Where I Send Thee - I don't really know how that one got to be associated with Christmas either - but when I do hear it I stop everything and listen. And Do You Hear What I Hear? And Silver Bells -- and A Christmas Song! Tooooooooooo many! I love them all!
6. What is your favorite way to remember those less fortunate at Christmastime?
ANY way is my favorite way. Last year we gave up Christmas to help another family and I really really DID enjoy that! But even THAT family has sO much more than the starving little children in developing countries .... and they tear at my heartstrings sO much! I wish I had the funds to send them ALL clean water and a goat and a dozen chickens and a cow and warm clothes and shoes and whatever they need! I just wish people in America would understand that even when they THINK they have NOTHING they have sO much to share with those people! I read not long ago, that if EVERY person (every single solitary one) that calls themselves a Christian (I'm not getting into the variations of whether they ARE or not) ... If every person who calls themselves a Christian would donate ONE DOLLAR ... just one ... (for a family of six Christians that's $6 ... it would SOLVE world hunger! Sooooo... NOW imagine if EVERYONE - not just we who call ourselves Christians -- EVERYONE - The Buddhists and the Muslims and the Jews and alllllllllllll the wee little religions that most of us have never heard of - AND the Athiests and Agnostics too - If EVERY person gave just ONE dollar. WHY can't we get that done??? I don't understand....
7. Does it upset you to see "Xmas" instead of Christmas? How about "Happy Holidays" etc., instead of "Merry Christmas?"
I just told a friend this week that I actually used to SAY Happy Holidays, or Season's Greetings -- but that I was using that term to encompass Christmas and New Years! I always said Happy Chanukkah to my Jewish friends -- and I still DO! I had never heard of Kwaanza or Ramaden up until 10 or at most 15 years ago... But if I had friends who celebrated those holidays as opposed to Christmas I would greet them with their greeting of choice! What AGGRAVATES me is that it has become POLLITICALLY INCORRECT to give proper credit to the REASON we HAVE Christmas! Jesus CHRIST gave us Christmas and without His birth none of those other celebrations would even have a DAY OFF! Our entire WORLD calendar revolves around the birth of Jesus Christ, and yet we are not supposed to say Merry Christmas!!!! I do not deny the others THEIR thoughts, ideas, or beliefs... do NOT deny me MINE!
8. How many Christmas programs are you attending this month?
MANY! Next week is REALLY busy!
9. Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? Any chance of that dream becoming a reality?
I am NOT dreaming of a white Christmas... but I jusssssst heard this afternoon that the weathermen are "playing" with the idea that snow MAY happen late next week... BUT we all know how the MEDIA is... I'm not buyin' it until I see it!
10. Tell me about a Christmas present you received as a child. Pics are always nice.
Yea... a pic of my childhood would be nice! I think I have two. The only one I can think of -- I was a fairly OLD child - in my teens I think... but my mother found this GIMONGOUS Stuffed Winnie the Pooh -- I'm sure it was at Sears. It was probably not for sale -- it was probably a promotional display! But somehow she ended up with it and thought it would be a LOVELY Christmas present for ME! Now, my next older sister was the Winnie the Pooh FANATIC -- I simply collected Teddy Bears. But Pooh came to me... and when I moved to Minnesota I took him as carry on luggage - and they made me buy him a seat! YES - he WAS that big! He wouldn't fit in the overhead compartment, that's for sure! (Dr. John is gonna kill me for all these long answers. Sorry Pastor!)
11. How many Christmas parties are you attending this month?
Parties? Just one. And it's not really a Christmas party... it's an Epiphany Party!
12. How do you keep yourself centered on the significance of Christmas?
I keep myself centered in the significance of Christ in my life. If He's here, with me, everyday... then He is naturally with me throughout this season.
